THE ROMANCE INTERVIEW
ANGI: What’s your favorite Valentine gift or have you received it yet?
SASHA: A handmade present – literally made-up of the handprints of my kids. The older they’ve gotten, the more I love that print.

ANGI: What’s your favorite Valentine flower?
SASHA: Believe it or not, I like white carnations. Does that make me weird?

ANGI: What’s your favorite Valentine/Love saying?
SASHA: I don’t think people say, “I love you” enough. So, I’d say that. I know, I know—it’s not exactly the most original answer.

ANGI: Which Valentine film can you watch over and over without falling asleep?
SASHA: I love the movie Valentine’s Day. It does a wonderful job or addressing all forms of love – at all ages. Let’s face it, we’re never too old for love.

ANGI: What’s your favorite Valentine candy you’d share with friends?
SASHA: I would say a box of chocolates but I’m off sugar now (two years) so I’d have to say berries. Or even a low-carb keto cake or cupcakes.

ANGI: What is your favorite Valentine tradition?

SASHA: Valentine’s cards. It’s all about taking the time to show you care, right? In this day and age of social media and texts, there’s something truly meaningful about taking the time to show you care.

Beth Cornelison To The Rescue!

Help me welcome Beth Cornelison to the blog and get her take on babies, writing and love!

First...the babies in Rock-A-Bye Rescue
Two babies in jeopardy…two powerful stories in one!
When an unhinged cult leader escapes custody, he'll stop at nothing to get to two innocent babies…and the foster mothers who stand in his way.

GUARDING EVE by Beth Cornelison
Lila Green goes from foster mom to bodyguard when a storm traps her and six-month-old Eve in a remote mountain cabin with a killer on their heels. Can her neighbor, wounded veteran Dean Hamilton, help them survive?

CLAIMING CALEB by Karen Whiddon
Michelle Morgan must protect her newborn nephew, Caleb—and even work with her ex-fiancé. FBI agent Garrett Ware never wanted children, but now he'll sacrifice everything for this baby…and this woman.

READ A LITTLE, BUY THE BOOK

Lila contemplated her painting. She ought to squeeze in a little more work on the landscape before Eve woke up. Or perhaps she should fix her own lunch, she thought when her stomach growled. She needed to get back in the routine of attending to her own needs while her foster baby was asleep or safely occupied with toys.
She opened her refrigerator and took out a cup of yogurt and a container of leftover Chinese takeout. Giving the sweet- and- sour chicken a sniff, she decided it had become more sour than sweet, and she carried it to the kitchen sink. After dumping the spoiled Chinese food down the garbage disposal, she peeled the top off the yogurt and started eating it as she crept back to the nursery door to peek at Eve again.
The little girl had stolen her heart at first glimpse. With round rosy cheeks, large dark eyes and a dusting of brown curls, Eve was a living doll. Her heart- shaped lips were parted as she slept, and she snuffled slightly with a stuffy nose. Angelic. Eve slept with her rump in the air and her blankie squeezed tight in her hand.
Lila’s chest ached again, thinking of the tragedy that had befallen Eve’s young mother. Such a precious baby, born from such a terrible crime. After finishing her yogurt, Lila didn’t linger any longer, though she could have spent hours staring at the girl’s sweet face.
As she returned to the kitchen to throw away her trash, a movement outside her window caught Lila’s attention. Stepping closer the sink to peer outside, Lila scanned her yard. Ice had quickly built up in the trees and ice-burdened branches hung low. In the last several minutes, the sleet and freezing rain had become mixed with snow, and a thin accumulation dusting every surface.
The swirling snow amid the zinging ice pellets created a peaceful scene. She saw nothing unusual outside except for the fluttering flakes and thickening layers of ice. Maybe what she’d seen had been a falling branch. A woodland animal?
     Maybe she’d imagined—
Lila’s breath snagged in, mid-thought, as a large man, clad in a dark coat, jeans and a knit hat, emerged from behind her shed…carrying an axe.

Harlequin author Beth Cornelison earned her degree in Public Relations from the UGA, but she only worked in PR for about a year before she moved with her husband to Louisiana, where she decided to pursue her love of writing fiction.
Since that time, she has won numerous honors for her work including a final in the 2010 Rita contest sponsored by the Romance Writers of America. She made her first sale to Silhouette Intimate Moments in June 2004 and has gone on to sell many more books to Harlequin/Silhouette. She has also published with Five Star Expressions, Samhain Publishing, and Sourcebooks.
Snoopy is her muse, and she loves cats, chocolate, and being lazy. Her only son will graduate from college in May, so she has an empty nest (room for more cats?)  Beth has presented workshops across the country to numerous chapter meetings, conferences, online classes and book clubs. She lives in north Louisiana with her husband and a fluctuating number of kitties who think they are people.

Jan Schliesman: How often to you Get Lost In A Story?
Beth Cornelison: Not as often as I’d like! I find it ironic that as a writer, I’m often too busy to do all the reading I’d like to! I save my favorite authors’ books to gobble up as a reward for finishing a book or turning in edits. I finally got around to reading Outlander in 2014 and I’m eager to finish my current work in progress so I can get lost in that series of stories again! (I’m in the fourth book now.)

Jan: Since your new release has a baby on the cover, tell us how long has it been since you rocked a baby?
Beth: My baby is 22 y/o now and about to graduate from college. I drop not-so-subtle hints about wanting grandchildren quite often, and he just rolls his eyes at me. I volunteer to rock babies in the church nursery during services, but the most recent baby I cuddled would be my friend’s newborn at our book club dinner. Babies are so sweet!

Jan: Tell us about sharing Rock-a-bye Rescue with Karen Whiddon. Have you collaborated before?
Beth: I’ve worked with Karen on continuity series before for Harlequin Romantic Suspense so I knew she was the sort of writer I’d like to work with again. When I had the idea of doing a two-in-one about babies in jeopardy, I thought of her right off. I’m so glad she agreed!

Jan: How long have you been writing?
Beth: I’ve been dreaming up stories and getting lost with the characters in my head since I was a little girl. I put pen to paper in junior high school to write my first novel and have been hooked on story telling ever since. I began seriously pursuing publication in the early 1990s with a short break when my son was young. I sold my first book to Harlequin in 2004.

Jan: What’s your favorite Valentine’s candy?
Beth: Chocolate!  The chocolate can be combined with caramel, toffee, peanut butter or rice crisps…so long as the chocolate is the star.

Jan: Does your heroine have any of your character traits?
Beth: Sure. I think a little bit of me goes into every heroine I write, in different ways. Lila’s soft heart for babies and cats is something I share with her. Her love of the mountain setting and having peace and quiet to work is something we share. I’d like to think I’d have her courage under fire.

Jan: Most writers have to find their zone before the words start flowing. Describe your ideal writing day.
Related imageBeth: I work best in the morning. With a good breakfast and plenty of coffee as fuel, I get down to business. My optimal zone is when I have no distractions (no phone or music, and no cats bugging me!) and a clear vision of the scene I want to write. Then I get lost in my characters’ heads and emotions and just…go!

Jan: How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?
Beth: My husband and I have, sadly, become sort of fuddy duddies. We might go out to eat somewhere near Valentine’s but would rather not fight the crowds on Valentine’s Day itself. We exchange small things like cards, chocolate covered strawberries or flowers, then enjoy the evening at home. We’ve been married for 29 years, and romance for us is in the little stuff of every day. Watching TV together, Skyping with our son, going to church, a backrub, a trip to the gym together…savoring the simple pleasures of life.

Jan:
Beth: Oh my gosh! That would be my dream job (after writing)!  Can I say all of them? J I love ice cream to an unhealthy degree! Anything with chocolate, caramel, toffee, coffee, marshmallows…now I’m getting hungry!  Okay, best would probably be coffee ice cream with chocolate chips and toffee bits. Does Haagen-Dazs have that? Can you send me some?

Theresa Romain and I at the B&N Book signing on September 12th, 2015.

Jan Schliesman: How often do you Get Lost In A Story?
Theresa Romain: Every day! If I’m not writing one, I’m reading one. I work on my latest manuscript 6 or 7 days a week, and I always end the day by reading.

Jan:  How long have you been writing? What was your first Big Break?
Theresa: I’ve been writing fiction since the beginning of 2008. My break into publishing came when I entered an RWA chapter contest and won—and the editor who judged the finals wanted to buy my manuscript! Two years later, it appeared in print as my romance debut, Season for Temptation. And I’m still working with that editor, along with lots of other lovely folks.

Jan:  What is your definition of romance?
Image result for pictures of romanceTheresa: In a book? There has to be an HEA. In real life? Something that shows caring for the other person’s likes and dislikes. An everyday example: my husband could not care less about making the bed, but he knows I like it. So if he gets up after me, he makes the bed. Most romance is made up of little everyday gestures.

Jan: It was love at first sight when I met my Mr. Wonderful. How did you meet your husband?
Theresa: That sounds like a great story, Jan! I’d love to hear more about that:)
I met my husband when we were both grad students in history. We met not in class, but in the TA office. I went in there to talk to a friend, and he was in there studying and glaring at me…or so I thought. Turns out he was trying to eavesdrop so he could figure out who I was. The rest is…well, history.

Jan: What’s the most difficult part of the writing process for you?
Theresa: Getting started! That’s getting started each day, and also getting a new manuscript going. I try to be very organized, but the dark side of that is that I get distracted by all the to-dos that pop up each day. Time management is a work in progress for me.

Jan: I drink Dasani or hot tea and nibble on gummy bears when I’m writing. What about you?
Theresa: Coffee coffee coffee. And water, too. I guess I am all about the beverages. Sometimes on winter afternoons I make tea. I like Constant Comment or herbal tea with those sweet wintry spices.

London from the London EyeJan:  Have you visited any of the locations you’ve written about? Where would you love to visit?
Theresa: I’ve been to several countries in Europe, but never to most of the places in England I write about. As a historical romance author, I try to travel in time as well as space, so I research how locations would have looked, smelled, sounded 200 years ago.
As for where I’d like to visit—that’s hard to say. I’d love to go to England, but I’d like to just BE there and not have to go through the overseas travel. I’ve had horrible air travel experiences and have gotten to a point where I have a hard time putting myself through that.

Jan:  What’s on your bucket list?
Theresa: I have tunnel vision right now for my next deadline—so that’s at the top of the list! But making the New York Times or USA Today bestseller list sounds great too. Maybe someday.

Jan:  Tell me about getting your first fan letter/email/FB post.
Theresa: After my first romance came out, I got a Goodreads message from a reader. She said she was writing because she saw that it was my debut, and “I wanted you to know that someone out there in the world really was touched by it.” I saved that note, of course! It meant the world to me to know that my book had connected with a reader’s heart. That’s always my hope for my stories. Four years and seven books later, hearing from readers still means just as much to me.

Jan’s GOTTA ASK:

Theresa’s GOTTA ANSWER: Coconut! Coconut is my favorite flavor of anything sweet. I can’t resist a dessert with coconut in it.

THANKS THERESA! It's been wonderful getting to know you. Readers, be sure to scroll down to the Rafflecopter for your chance to WIN an autographed copy of Secrets of a Scandalous Heiress!  You can also follow the links to Theresa's Facebook page where she's giving away an autographed copy of my book, Protecting His Brother's Bride!

X Marks the Scot Blurb:

He was a Highland Rogue—Wicked with a Bow and Just as Wicked with the Ladies.

Declan MacGregor hadn't a care in the world beyond finding a soft bed and a willing woman...until he had to escort Lady Liadain Campbell to the English court. The woman needles him at every turn, but he can't just abandon her to that vipers' nest without protection.

She Never Asked for a Bodyguard...

Liadain wasn't thrilled to be left in the care of her clan's archrival. It was as if the man never had a lady tell him no before! And yet as whispers of treason swirl through the court and the threat of danger grows even sharper, her bitter enemy soon becomes the only one she can trust...
 A Word From Victoria:
It’s great to be back at Get Lost in a Story! Thanks so much for having me. I’m here to celebrate the second release in the Bad Boys of the Highlands series, X Marks the Scot.
Declan MacGregor (Laird Ciaran MacGregor’s bad boy brother from Temptation in a Kilt) is back with a story of his own. Don’t worry though. Lady Liadain Campbell (the bloody Campbell’s sister from Temptation in a Kilt) is fiery enough to give Declan a piece of her mind. Those two made an interesting pair. And Declan certainly knew how to push Liadain’s buttons. Here’s a fun excerpt from one of those times.
“MacGregor!”
With lightning speed, he bolted through the trees toward the sound of her voice. He spotted her still form and stopped. Cautiously, he raised his bow while searching the surrounding landscape. Once he knew for certain there was no viable threat, only then would he attempt to approach her.
He remained alert, trying to decipher what was amiss. The healer was frozen with her skirts lifted up, giving him a perfect view of her creamy thigh.
Tears choked her voice. “Please, MacGregor.”
Following her wide-eyed stare, he recognized the reason for her distress. The culprit was making a beeline toward her. Lifting the bow, Declan took his shot, and as soon as the arrow made impact, he realized his mistake.
When the tip penetrated the reptile, the snake involuntarily jumped…right onto her foot. Her shrill screams rang through the trees and she jerked back several feet. To his surprise, the lass did not stop there.
She hiked up her dress even higher. She bounced up and down as though her feet were afire. Curses were thrown like stones as she swore like a man in the heat of battle. The shocking spectacle made any words that came to mind wedge in his throat.
The lass suddenly turned and raced back through the woods. Declan gaped as he caught glimpses of her bare, shapely legs fleeing through the forest trees.
What the hell was that? He threw back his head and roared with laughter. Who would have thought that the woman who resided under the same dangerous roof as the bloody Campbell was deathly afraid of snakes? Hell, she had lived with one. The idea was truly unbelievable. Honestly, he had never thought of her as faint-hearted.
He shook his head and walked back to the horses. He hoped the lass had enough sense to stop running and that he would not have to chase her down. Although the way she behaved, nothing would have surprised him.
The healer sat upon her mount, her back stiff and straight. When he approached, she cast her eyes away from him and shifted in the saddle.
“Why did ye run? The snake was dead.”
“I donna like snakes. I donna, donna, donna. I really donna. It touched my foot,” she blurted out and then shivered.
Declan tried not to chuckle, but one involuntarily escaped him. “I gathered that ye donna favor snakes, but ’tis dead.” He extended his hand to her. “Come down and stretch your legs before we ride again.”
She waved him off. “Nay, I am fine right where I am,” she said as she studied the ground. “I had more than enough stretching.”
“There are nay more snakes, lass. Come down.”
“Unless ye intend on pulling me from my horse’s back, I am nae moving,” she said stubbornly.
The words were out of Declan’s mouth before he had a chance to stay them. “Ye know, they could as easily be in the trees above your head as they could be upon the ground.” He patted her horse on the rump. He was teasing her, affectionately, not maliciously.
She paled and became watchful of the branches above. “Ye know? Ye may think ye are humorous, but let me assure ye that ye arenae.”
“Suit yourself.”
Sounds like the sense of humor of many men in my family. Thanks so much for having me today. I hope you get lost in a story of your own.
