Today, I'm excited to welcome Elisabeth Naughton to the blog!  Her new book is out now, and we've got an excerpt for you, along with a giveaway!

TWISTED:
Series: Eternal Guardians, Book #7
Genre: Paranormal/Fantasy Romance
Release Date: September 29, 2014
Publisher: Elisabeth Naughton Publishing, LLC

NICK – Leader of the half-breeds and the last true hero. He’s spent his life fighting a dark pull toward the gods. A pull he now knows is linked to his father Krónos and the Titan’s plan to escape from the Underworld.

But Nick’s hidden powers are coveted by more than just his father. Imprisoned by Hades, Nick battles every form of torture imaginable as the sadistic god schemes to break him. Only one thing is keeping him sane. One woman who gives him the strength to fight the relentless darkness. She has a dangerous plan of her own, though, and as Nick’s powers grow stronger, even she might not be enough to alter his destiny.

As the fate of the world hangs in the balance, Nick’s allegiances are tested. And no one knows whether he will choose to fight for good or succumb to the sinister lure of evil. Not even him.

The Excerpt:

“Nick.” Cynna’s soft, warm fingers brushed his shoulder.

He dropped his hands and whipped around. This deep in the tunnels, there was no light, but his senses were so heightened right now from Krónos’s energy churning inside that he didn’t need any illumination to see her standing a foot from him, her silky hair falling to her shoulders, her wide chocolate eyes alight with sadness and…pity.

The pity pushed him right to the edge. Who was she to pity him? Who the f--- was she to care?

“Don’t let them win.” She moved closer. “Fight it. The way you fought it these last few months.”

Those months spun in his memory. Reverberated in his ears. Rushed through his veins. The crack of a whip snapping in the darkness. The sting of the leather slicing into his flesh. The cold metal of the shackles tightening against his wrists. The chains jerking his arms high over his head. The hot, wicked sensation of those nymphs’ fingers gliding along his overheated skin. And a release he hadn’t known he’d craved hovering out of his grasp, impossible to reach. All thanks to her.

Blood pounded in his veins. Anger and rage and desperation coalesced. That energy snapped and sizzled in his hands until he couldn’t hold it back anymore. “Stupid move, female.” He closed his hand around her wrist and yanked. “I warned you.”

She gasped and fell into him. But before she could pull away, he turned and dragged her behind him.

“Nick…”

He headed for the tunnel on the left, wrapped his fingers around the first set of steel bars he came to, and threw the door open.

He flung her into the dark holding cell and stepped in after her.

She hit the stone wall, turned quickly, and looked back, her wide eyes searching the darkness, trying to find him. “Wh—what is this place?”

“Our version of a drunk tank. Never used until now. F---ing poetic, if you ask me.”

She sucked in a breath as he drew close, but didn’t struggle when he grasped her arm, yanked it upward, and snapped a metal cuff high on the wall over her wrist. Didn’t once turn away while he reached for her left arm, jerked that one up as well, and snapped the second cuff over her other wrist.

That shadow energy hummed and rolled inside as he stepped back. Thanks to his enhanced senses, he could see her. See her well, even in utter darkness. His gaze slid over her newly dark hair, the white, almost angelic sweater falling open at her chest, the tips of her breasts pressing against the soft cotton, and her slim hips and long legs encased in the formfitting jeans. Arousal stirred in his belly, mixed with the darkness, then slinked downward until he was hard as stone.

“Nick. Listen to me.” Her hands curled into fists. “I—”

“What did you say to me in that cell when you brought those nymphs to me?” Power rippled in his veins as he braced his hands on the stones beside her head and moved in so close his body was a breath from hers.

“I—”

He brushed the tip of his nose against her ear and lowered his voice to a menacing whisper. “I think it was something along the lines of…this isn’t a game.”

Romantic Suspense RITA Winner Laura Griffin

EXPOSED
A Tracers Novel

Pocket Books

Every picture tells a story. But not all of them have happy endings.

As a forensic photographer at the Delphi Center crime lab, Maddie Callahan is used to seeing violence up close, but she’s never before been the target of it. When a freelance photo shoot goes awry, she realizes she may have seen, and perhaps photographed, the kidnapping of a key witness in a federal probe. And although her camera was stolen, Maddie knows she has something that could be even more valuable to investigators.

FBI agent Brian Beckman has spent months investigating a vicious criminal known as the Doctor, only to have a key witness abducted on his watch. Worse, he’s falling for the woman who may be the Doctor’s next target. Maddie’s aloof facade hides a world of hurt that he wants to heal, no matter how much she keeps him at bay. But first he has to protect her from the danger that’s just out of focus, drawing close enough to shoot . . . and kill.

ALL ABOUT LAURA
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author LAURA GRIFFIN started her career in journalism before venturing into the world of romantic suspense. She is a two-time RITA Award winner (for the books Scorched and Whisper of Warning) as well as the recipient of the Daphne du Maurier Award (for Untraceable). Laura currently lives in Austin, where she is working on her next book.

ANGI: What’s your favorite fairy tale?
LAURA: My favorite (modern) fairy tale is probably Star Wars. I love the themes of good versus evil and people finding their inner courage to face impossible odds.

ANGI: What do you like about the hero of your book?
LAURA: The hero of my story is FBI agent Brian Beckmann. I love him because he’s strong (of course), smart, confident. He’s not afraid to go after what he wants (in this case, my heroine Maddie, who is very reluctant to give her heart away and for good reason). Brian is younger than Maddie, and she sees that as a problem, but he is determined to prove her wrong and overcome her many reservations about getting involved. Of course, he’s very convincing...

ANGI: Can you tell us about a real-life hero you’ve met?
LAURA: I have had the honor of meeting some of our Navy SEALs. I am so impressed with the sacrifices our men and women in uniform make and I don’t think we do enough to help and appreciate them when they are home.

ANGI: What sound or noise do you love?
Laura accepting her 2013 RWA RITA
for SCORCHED
LAURA: my children laughing

ANGI: Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
LAURA: Action adventure!

ANGI: What’s a book in your To-Be-Read pile?
LAURA: My sister just gave me The War of Art. And I’m looking forward to Lee Child’s new thriller, Never Go Back.

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
LAURA: I love so many movies! One of my favorite movie series is Jason Bourne. I loved Matt Damon as Bourne and then was thrilled to see Jeremy Renner in the latest film, The Bourne Legacy.

ANGI: What is your biggest vice?
LAURA: My biggest vice is books. I load up twice a year (usually during the holidays and before summer) and then devour them all year long. I can never stick to a budget when it comes to books, so those one-click buttons are dangerous.

ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: You've got a matching set of RITAs for your office. Mind sharing where you're keeping your ladies?

LAURA'S GOTTA ANSWER: I love the two RITAs! I have them in my office as bookends, with my books in between.

ALLISON DOYLE’S NEW CASE WILL MAKE HER CAREER . . . IF SHE LIVES TO SOLVE IT.
Motive, opportunity, and no alibi—rookie detective Allison Doyle knows it’s as close to a slam dunk as most investigations get. But even though her small-town Texas police department has identified a prime suspect in a young woman’s vicious murder, she can’t rest easy. And when legendary FBI profiler Mark Wolfe shows up with a startling new theory, all her doubts are amplified. If Wolfe is correct, the real killer is an elusive psychopath who has left a trail of bodies behind him. And he’s just days away from his next kill. . . .
Allison was supposed to be Wolfe’s way into the case, nothing more. But she’s ambitious, stubborn, and far too tempting. With the help of her contacts at the Delphi Center crime lab, Wolfe is within striking distance of the monster he’s pursued for ten years. Except the closer Allison and Wolfe get, the more reason there is to fear. Because with a predator this brutal, every thread of evidence can make a difference between hunting a madman—and becoming hunted yourself.

ALL ABOUT LAURA
ANGI: How often to you get lost in a story?
LAURA: Every day! I’m a voracious reader.

ANGI: What’s the first book you remember reading?
LAURA: Can’t remember the first book, but the first series I remember reading was Nancy Drew. I thought she was so cool and smart. Maybe that’s why I grew up to write suspense.

ANGI: Can you tell us about a real-life hero you’ve met?
LAURA: I meet real-life heroes all the time when I interview law enforcement people and forensic experts as part of my book research. One who especially stands out is the forensic artist who inspired the main character in THREAD OF FEAR. Like the character in my book, she spends her days interviewing victims of violent crime and creating drawings that help investigators track down criminals.

ANGI: Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
LAURA: Definitely Action Adventure!

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
LAURA: Can’t pick just one! The Color Purple, The Graduate, Silence of the Lambs.

ANGI: Who’s your favorite villain?
LAURA: Hannibal Lecter.

ANGI: What is your biggest vice?
LAURA: chocolate.

ANGI: Is there a “Blooper” in your story (it may have been changed before printing)?
LAURA: My editor’s good at catching them. She’s always writing what I call “duh” comments in the margins. Things like, “…and then she loaded the gun with bullets.” And my editor will scribble, “As opposed to what? String cheese?” Good to have someone point out that stuff ahead of time.

ANGI: How is it working with hot guys and sexy women all day?
LAURA: I must say, can’t complain! I just finished a book with lots of Navy SEAL guys (SCORCHED, coming out this fall) and that was fun, fun, fun to research. Wow, those men can do amazing things. Writing about their adventures was a thrill for me.

ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: Hiya Laura!  I read on your website that you love researching your books. Can you share the best, worst, or most unusual thing you’ve had to discover or do to get a scene perfect?
LAURA’S GOTTA ANSWER:   Well, I just wrote this love scene involving a Navy SEAL and so… (kidding!)

Actually, some of the forensic research I’ve done has been fascinating, but also pretty grim. I toured a crime lab once and the CSI was kind enough to give me a first-hand (literally) demonstration on how they get fingerprints from partially decomposed bodies. That was a memorable moment and I ended up using it in the second Tracers book, UNSPEAKABLE.

Here’s a video highlighting some of the fun I’ve had researching the Tracers series.
