Get Lost with Scandalous Gentlemen in Lorraine Heath's Newest Release

An Affair with a Notorious Heiress
Scandalous Gentlemen of St. James Book 4

The son of a duke and an infamous mother, Alistair Mabry, Marquess of Rexton, fought his way to respectability. Now, the most eligible bachelor in London, marriage-shy Rexton will take only a wife with an impeccable reputation, good breeding, and a penchant for staying out of the gossip sheets. But when he strikes a deal to be seen “courting” a sweet young debutante whose notorious older sister has blemished her chances for marriage, Rexton is unexpectedly drawn to the highly inappropriate, calamitous Tillie, Lady Landsdowne herself.

After a scandalous incident that sent shockwaves throughout society and disgraced her, Tillie refuses to cower in the face of the ton. Instead, she will hold her head high as she serves as chaperone for her younger sister, but Tillie is convinced Rexton’s courtship is shrouded with secrets—ones she vows to uncover. However, doing so requires getting dangerously close to the devilishly handsome and forbidden marquess…

Here's an except:

   Hearing the rapid patter of heels, he turned, completely unprepared for the hard kick his gut took at the sight of the woman striding toward him with such regal and uncompromising bearing. She held herself rigid and tall, with dignity and a daring that issued a challenge: mock me, mess with me, at your own peril. Nothing about her appeared youthful, yet he doubted she’d yet seen a quarter of a century.
    She stopped in front of him, her blue eyes—shrewd, calculating, suspicious—slowly raking over him, taking his measure. Much to his annoyance, he found himself straightening his spine a tad, when he’d thought it was as straight as a poker. With hair as black as midnight, she in no way resembled her sister. This woman was no innocent. She didn’t harbor dreams of love and romance. Poetry interested her not in the least. Pixie dust wasn’t sprinkled about her. She was all strength and vinegar. She wouldn’t break in his bed. He’d wager if anyone were vulnerable there, it would be he. She communicated quite effectively with her narrowed gaze that she would give no quarter.
    “Good afternoon, Lord Rexton. I’m Lady Landsdowne. I don’t believe we’ve ever been properly introduced.”
    No, they hadn’t. He couldn’t recall ever laying eyes on her. By the time he was occasionally making the social rounds she was persona non grata. “It’s a pleasure.”
    Her smile, small and tight, indicated she knew he was lying. The décolletage of her burgundy frock was low enough to modestly hint at the swell of her bosom, only enough pale skin revealed to make a man’s mouth water and his imagination to take flight, but the rest of her was covered as primly as a schoolmistress.
   “It seems Gina slept in. She’s preparing herself now. I’m afraid she might be a while. I’d offer to have the maid bring in tea but you strike me as being a whisky man.” She walked over to a table sporting several decanters and winged a finely arched raven-black eyebrow at him over her shoulder.
    He didn’t usually indulge this early in the day, but he’d welcome the heat of whisky at his throat to distract him from the other heated areas of his body. “Yes, please.”
    To his surprise, she poured whisky into two glasses. She handed him one, took the other, raised it slightly. “Cheers.”
    She took a sip and licked her lips in a manner that caused his gut to tighten, before walking over to the settee where she gracefully lowered herself onto a cushion. “Please make yourself comfortable.”
    He selected the chair nearest to her, studied her, and couldn’t help thinking how quickly Landsdowne must have fallen for her. She was poised, graceful, and beautiful. The man would have preened with her on his arm. That she then betrayed him and her vows was beyond the pale. Little wonder people looked at her and expected the same of her sister. This woman commanded the room; she could not be without influence, and her sister was her vulnerable pupil. What lessons she must have taught her. And that tutoring was going to make his task all the more challenging.

Meet Lorraine

Lorraine Heath always dreamed of being a writer. After graduating from the University of Texas, she wrote training manuals and computer code, but something was always missing. When she read a romance novel, she became not only hooked on the genre, but quickly realized what her writing lacked: rebels, scoundrels, and rogues. She's been writing about them ever since, for both adult and young adult readers. Her work has been recognized with numerous industry awards including the RWA's RITA®. Her novels have appeared on the USA Today and New York Times bestseller lists.

Let's get to know Lorraine better...

E.E.: What’s your favorite fairy tale?
Lorraine: It would have to be Beauty and the Beast. I’ve written a couple of stories that fall into that category. One of the things I really like about the timeless tale is that it serves as a reminder that what is truly important is what is inside of each of us: our hearts, our souls, our character.

E.E.: What sound or noise do you love?
Lorraine: I love rain. I’d be happy if every day were a rainy day. As a matter of fact, the CD I play while I write is a thunderstorm CD. I like to listen to it late at night while it’s dark. That’s when I write my most emotional or intense scenes.

E.E.: What was the first story you remember writing?
Lorraine: When I was 7, I wrote a story about a fisherman who caught a mermaid. I wrote it one summer on a red Big Chief tablet. I remember sitting in a rocking chair while writing it.

E.E.: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
Lorraine: Casablanca. Although it didn’t have a HEA, Rick was certainly a romantic hero and served as a basis for some of mine. He’s cynical, comes across as hard-hearted but in the end, he does the right thing.

E.E.: Who’s your favorite villain?
Lorraine: Hans Gruber, played by Alan Rickman, in Die Hard. It was the first time I’d ever seen Alan Rickman and I fell in love with him. Whether he plays the villain or a love interest or anything, he always had such a command of the role.

I’d like to add another villain to my list: Loki. I just can’t help but feel he is redeemable and would very much like to be the one to redeem him.

E.E.: Is writing or story-telling easier for you now?
Lorraine: Absolutely not. As a matter of fact, I think it gets more difficult. I tend to compare what I’m writing against what I’ve previously written. If a story received glowing reviews then I fear the story I’m writing will fall short or that it will be the one to prove I’m a fake. I’ll also be writing something and think, “Have I written that before? Did I already write that in a story?” I want to give readers something fresh and new but the more stories I’ve written, the more challenging it becomes.

E.E.: What could we find in your heroine's purse?
Lorraine: A pistol. Her family is in the firearms business, and she can defend herself.

Meet the Texas Hardts in a new series from E.E. Burke

The Hardts of Texas survived wars, droughts and pestilence to build a ranching empire. Loyalty, they understand. These cowboys still have a few things to learn about love.

Texas Hardts: The Series

Texas Hardts, a heartfelt, humorous contemporary romance series set in Texas, takes on issues like trust and family bonds, loyalty and sacrifice, and, of course, finding true love.
Maybe Baby is Logan's story. He's next to the youngest in a ranching family with five sons. The self-described peacemaker is "slow and steady" -- but once he meets Jen Chandler, he is anything but slow, and even his steady nature is challenged during his unexpected romance with this uptight workaholic, who tries to convince him she needs only one thing--his ability to give her a baby. Love isn't part of the deal.
Here's a blurb and excerpt:
No matter how many hours she puts in at work, Jen Chandler can’t ignore the urgent ticking of her biological clock. The nesting instinct has kicked in big-time, and she wants a baby. After too many failed relationships, plus an issue with intimacy, she isn’t looking for a husband. Instead, she sets out in search of a sperm donor to make her dream come true.
Logan Hardt, a laid-back cowboy who shows up at her Atlanta home one day, turns out to have the right genes, as well as a pressing need for cash. But he’s seduced by more than Jen’s generous offer, and the closer the time comes to say goodbye, the less willing he is to honor a contract that would require him to walk away and never look back.
Will a contract between them lead to more than a baby? Maybe.
~~~
While Jen is practicing yoga on her back porch...
Exhaling, Jen gazed upside down between her legs at the rear of the renovated Tudor. It looked like a transplant out of Stratford-Upon-Avon, and the yard reminded her of a secret garden out of a book she’d escaped into when she was a child. Her dog wasn’t the only one who favored the new digs over their last home, a trendy apartment in New York City. What a relief to inhale fresh air that smelled of grass, not garbage.
She’d made the right decision in taking over the agency’s Atlanta office and moving into an historic neighborhood close to her job downtown, yet with a low crime rate and top-notch schools; the perfect place to raise a family.
The challenge now would be to find the perfect donor. She distrusted sperm banks. After all, she wouldn’t purchase a car without driving it, or a house without walking through it, or even produce without having a chance to touch it. No, that wasn’t a good analogy. She had a lengthy list of requirements, but touching wasn’t one of them.
She knew business associates who were bright, successful men, reasonably good-looking and seemingly healthy, one of them might donate. Except, seeing the donor on a regular basis would make business meetings awkward. Ideally, the man would be someone she could meet, investigate thoroughly, but have no ties to him. How could she go about finding this Mr. Right? Rather, Mr. Y, who could provide the chromosome she needed, as well impressive DNA.
A throat-clearing sound came from behind.
Jen snapped her eyes open, head down and looking between her legs. She stared in confusion at scuffed cowboy boots, topped by worn jeans, covering manly legs that seemed to go on forever.
With a gasp, she leapt out of the pose and spun around—bad enough to be caught off guard by a total stranger, much less with her ass in the air. Instinctively, she assumed a defensive stance, and looked up…and up… At five-six, she wasn’t considered short, but the intruder had to be well over six feet. She was forced to tilt her head to look him in the eye.
Her tongue cleaved to the roof of her mouth.
The color of his eyes reminded her of endless skies stretched across wide-open spaces. Tanned, chiseled features were softened by a growth of brown stubble a few shades darker than his collar-length sandy hair.
His gaze flickered over her body—over the sports bra and skin-tight yoga pants she wore only when she was at home by herself—before returning to her face, reflecting his blatant appreciation.
“Didn’t mean to startle you, miss. Would you mind if I trimmed your bush?” His resonant Texas drawl distracted her a second before the bizarre remark registered. He’d been staring at her—
“My what?”
He blinked, as if her question surprised him, a moment later a dark stain flooded his face all the way to his cheekbones. She’d never seen a man blush so deeply. “The bush next to your fence,” he quickly clarified. “I, uh, thought you might not have the right tool.”
“The right tool?” She followed a line of Western snap buttons down the front of his faded chambray shirt, past a Texas-sized belt buckle—only then did she notice the gas-powered hedge trimmer clutched in his left hand.
She jerked her attention to his face. He meant the shears, for God’s sake. How had she missed the fire engine red lawn tool? And he had to have noticed where she looked to start with. Flustered, she shot back. “Do you make a habit of strolling into people’s backyards looking for work, cowboy?”
His answering smile landed like a punch to her solar plexus. God help her, a dimple, visible even through the scruff.  “Only if I leave my horse at home.”
Texas Hardts: Origins
To purchase
Logan Hardt, one of the main characters in Maybe Baby, is a direct descendant of two of my historical characters in The Bride Train series. Ross and Susannah Hardt. You can read their story in Seducing Susannah, Book 4, The Bride Train.
When all else fails, try seduction.
Ross Hardt must marry a proper lady to reclaim his inheritance. Among the few remaining prospects is a beautiful, sassy widow who hastantalized him from the day they first met--the same day she slapped his face.
Susannah Braddock journeyed west on The Bride Train in search of agood father for her young son, but on the lawless frontier few candidates meet her requirements, least of all the arrogant, demanding, unfeeling railroad agent.
As Fate—and Ross’s scheming—draws them closer, Susannah glimpses unexpected tenderness beneath his harsh exterior, and she’s tempted by the fiery passion that flares between them. But when a secret comes out that threatens to destroy their budding relationship, passion isn’t enough. Only love can weather the oncoming storm.
Find out more about Maybe Baby and other books in The Bride Train series at my website: www.eeburke.com/books
I love researching family history, so I thought it made sense to give the Hardt family their own tree. If you've read some of my earlier books, you might recognize a few names on this chart. I love creating series that interconnect with other series.
In Maybe Baby, you'll meet Logan's four brothers. Each of them will be featured in the next four books, as the brothers must come together to save their family's ancestral ranch.
Today, I'll give away an Amazon gift card worth $10--enough to purchase both these books and have some left over!
Just take a shot at answering the question and enter the Rafflecopter.
Can you guess why the ranch is called the Double H? Both Hardt men explain in  Seducing Susannah and Maybe Baby. The shape of the brand might give you a hint as to the meaning.
OUR WINNER OF THE MYSTERY DATE MATCH GAME
IS........drum roll~~~~
COLEEN C.
CONGRATULATIONS!
The onset of summer always brings me back to those carefree days of laying on a blanket watching the clouds, 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles left on a card table, reading an afternoon away, or maybe playing one of the many board games with friends.(or maybe listening for the ice cream truck to make his rounds?)
How many of you remember "The Dating Game?" Or how about "Mystery Date?" All those hunky guys vying for the heart and hand of the young modern woman!!
WELL....
This weekend we're going to bring retro summer fun into the 21st century with a little game here on GET LOST IN STORY!!
It's all about BOOK BOYFRIENDS!!!
We've all lusted after at least one (or more!) and so I thought it'd be fun to quiz our GLIAS authors to see who "their" first book boyfriends were/are:
E.E. Burke claims that she has a "soft spot for bad boys" and that's why BUCK O'CONNER (Her Bodyguard, Book 1, Steam! Romance and Rails series) is her BB heartthrob!
Nan Dixon says that DUNCAN SWIFT (High Noon-Nora Roberts) Cab driver who wins lottery and is charming, loves deeply, generous, thinks about others...and is HOT!"
Regan Walker states that her heart was captured by none other than ALISDAIR (DAIR) (Lady of the Glen-Jennifer Roberson. "A keeper. Dair is a tender warrior."
Jillian Stone says that" when I get ready to write a badass alpha dominant hero, one of my requirements is that he also be eccentric and vulnerable. For that reason, and because I love her writing--I recommend Seamus McIntyre (So Much More -Kim Holden) Pure, broken, strong, but vulnerable male hotness. He is also the sexiest dad you may ever read."
Lizbeth Selvig remembers her first literary heartthrob being Jesse DuFrayne (Hummingbird-LaVyrle Spencer) "He was the original bad boy with the heart of gold."
Angi Morgan claims it's Wildcard Karmody (U.S. Navy Seal (Out of Control-Suzanne Brockman) that got to her because of his serious sense of humor and sense of duty...oh, and he's a HOT seal!"
Avril Tremayne says it was Mr. Rochester (Jane Eyre) that captured her fancy first--"a damaged, but redeemable soul, intensely passionate, and such eloquence with words. The first man I truly fell in love with."
Amanda McIntyre-my first book love was Sheriff Roan Benedict (Roan-Jennifer Blake) "Strong sense of duty, quiet, damaged but with a tender and just heart and sly wit."
Picnics by moonlight - as long as we're somewhere the paparazzi can't find us
*First date: Sports arena/romantic movie/dancing ? Romantic movie - preferably one of mine and not that British guy she has a crush on
*Do you prefer your women in casual dress or glitzy? I'll take her any way she comes
#2
*What is your profession? Cowboy/Vet Student
*Do you prefer candlelight dinners or picnics by moonlight? Picnics by moonlight in the pasture
*First date: Sports arena/romantic movie/dancing ? Country western dancing
*Do you prefer your women in casual dress or glitzy? Tight jeans and boots, but I really loved that skirt Jen wore on our first date.
#3
*What is your profession? Detective Inspector, Metropolitan Police, New Scotland Yard
*Do you prefer candlelight dinners or picnics by moonlight? Definitely…moonlight.
*First date: Sports arena/romantic movie/dancing? A moon dance on a rooftop garden.
*Do you prefer your women in casual dress or glitzy? I am beguiled by a woman in a flirty skirt and leather jacket—a tantalizing mix of feminine and masculine.
#4
*What is your profession?  Inventor
*Do you prefer candlelight dinners or picnics by moonlight? When I’m with my girl, it could be cheeseburgers in a drive-through. And I’m putting both those ideas on my calendar.
*First date: Sports arena/romantic movie/dancing ?  I like to break rules so I’d take her to all three.
*Do you prefer your women in casual dress or glitzy?  Glitzy seems to be my thing. I love sliding my hand over a bare back. But hey…I’m great playing a game of one-on-one…basketball. One-on-one basketball.
#5
*What is your profession? transplant to a northern small town high school teacher/coach
*Prefer candlelight dinners or picnics by moonlight? Definitely picnics by moonlight.
*First date:  remembering our first date, I’d have to say maybe a little southern country music, then find a dirt road on a starry night where we can share a couple of beers, look at the sky and do whatever we feel comes next
*Do you prefer your women in casual dress or glitzy? I want a woman to feel casual and sexy in whatever she’s wearing. But being a southern boy at heart, a pair of jeans and an old t-shirt gets my heart racing.
#6
*What is your profession? Ship's captain, sometime smuggler and former pirate and privateer
*Do you prefer candlelight dinners or picnics by moonlight? candlelight dinners with a good Bordeaux wine and brandy, always brandy
*First date: Sports arena/romantic movie/dancing? watching the stars from the deck of my ship
*Do you prefer your women in casual dress or glitzy? I prefer my woman wearing the chemise dress made popular by Marie Antoinette because it's rather like she is wearing nothing at all.
#7
*What is your profession? Handyman, decent mechanic, and ranch hand
*Do you prefer candlelight dinners or picnics by moonlight? Picnics are fun—but I love romancing my girl with a fancy dinner out.
*First date: Sports arena/romantic movie/dancing ? A movie and dinner make a fine cliché date for me. A friendly poker game is plenty of sport – no need to go to an arena.
*Do you prefer your women in casual dress or glitzy? I love a girl in a pretty dress—but then again, jeans and a T-shirt are fine, too. Glitz is absolutely not necessary
Lady Sinners
VEGAS BABY
Lady Sinners Series, #1
As captain of the dance team for the NHL's Las Vegas Sinners, it's Miranda Evans' job to make sure a quality product goes on the ice between periods whether it's choreographed numbers or short scrimmages, but she's not blind. Her squad gets eye rolls and applause in equal measure. The chance to start a community intramural hockey league is her shot at legitimizing the Lady Sinners, but there's a catch. To maximize good press, Miranda has to work with a retired Sinner who's shut himself off from everyone in the organization. He's stubborn, broken, and unwilling to say the least, but in unguarded moments she can see the man underneath, and he might just be worth fighting for.
Ben Collier's NHL career came to a crashing halt a little over a year ago when a monster hit paralyzed him from the waist down. Feeling is coming back at a mind-numbingly slow pace. He's attacking rehab to the point of obsession. All he wants is to be left alone to focus on his three goals: walk, skate, play hockey. He absolutely doesn't need the distraction of the beautiful cheerleader who won't give him a moment's peace, but her optimism rubs off when he's not looking. Despite himself, the glass is starting to look half full for the first time since his injury. And that's terrifying. To love something means to accept the risk of losing it, and he's not sure he can do that again.
READ A LITTLE, BUY THE BOOK
I live in Ohio with my Air Force hubby, and I write hockey romance. I played one season of roller hockey when I was fifteen--it hurt enough that I decided I liked it better as a spectator--and it's been true love ever since! My fictional team is the Las Vegas Sinners, and my real-world team is the Pittsburgh Penguins.
I like strong, capable heroines who bring out the vulnerability in their tough guys.
THE Q&A
ANGI: How often to you get lost in a story?
KATIE:  Every day! Whether it’s a book I’m reading, a book I’m writing, a TV show or a movie, I love getting lost with intriguing characters.
ANGI: Favorite date night…fancy or at home?
KATIE:  Home! Hubby and I are introverts who cherish our little bubble. We’ll order pizza, pick up ice cream, and curl up to watch something funny.
ANGI: Would you put yourself in a Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
KATIE:  Fairy tale! I’m a hopeful romantic who can’t resist an HEA.
ANGI: What’s your favorite cartoon character?
KATIE:  This is tough because I am SUCH a kid. Any of the 90s Nickelodeon Nick Toons but if I had to pick one, Doug Funnie from Doug. It was refreshing to see an earnest, honest, vulnerable boy in love.
ANGI: Daffy Duck or Donald Duck?
KATIE:  Donald Duck.
ANGI: What’s your favorite thing about your book’s hero?
KATIE:  Normally we see heroines who don’t believe in themselves enough, but it’s switched in Vegas Baby. Ben is very self-conscious, and his esteem has taken a huge hit after a hockey injury paralyzed him below the waist. He’s shut the world out as he’s been rehabbing and slowly regaining feeling, but when he meets my bubbly, sweet heroine Miranda, he finds the courage to open up and let her in—eventually!
ANGI: High Heels or Hiking Boots?
KATIE:  Depends on the occasion! I love to go for nature walks, but I also love dressing up and feeling pretty and sexy in heels.
ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
KATIE:  I have too many! Home Alone, You’ve Got Mail, Apollo 13, Twister, Father of the Bride, Planes Trains and Automobiles, and Groundhog Day to name a few. I can never pass those up when they’re on TV.
ANGI: Got a favorite song? What makes it special?
KATIE:  Vegas Baby’s official song is “Anthem” by Superchick. It’s a kickass girl power song, and I love it
ANGI: Salad or soup?
KATIE:  Salad
ANGI: Champagne or Soda?
KATIE:  Diet Coke in an IV, please.
ANGI: What’s your perfect day?
KATIE:  Morning picnic on the beach then bouncing between Disney Parks and ending with fireworks.
ANGI: Geek or Jock?
KATIE:  Nerd girl with her nose in a book.
ANGI: Favorite inspiration
KATIE:  In life? Dana Scully from the X-Files. In writing? Rachel Caine J
ANGI: The most daring thing you’ve ever done… Care to share?
KATIE:  I recently leapt into self-publishing. It is a LOT of work, but the ultimate control over my work and the freedom has been so worth it.
ANGI’s GOTTA ASK:  What’s your favorite pair of shoes & why?
KATIE’S GOTTA ANSWER:  My wedding shoes! They are purple perfection and so, so pretty.
