ANGI: Where do you find your Montana Inspiration?
DANICA: I actually LIVE in Montana. I can’t tell you how much I love it here. It’s one of the most beautiful and crazy places in the world. In a single day it can snow and you can get heat stroke. I’m not kidding.

ANGI: Puppies or Kittens?
DANICA: I like both. I have two very cute pups—an old yellow lab and a very crazy golden retriever. As for the cats… Sigh. You know cats, but they both like to snuggle with me at night, thus making me their slave.

ANGI: Can you tell us about a real-life hero you’ve met?
DANICA: Um… Well, besides you, Angi?? My total bucket list moment actually happened at the Harlequin party with the best ladies ever (including Ms. Angi)—I got to dance with Nora Roberts. That’s it… My life is complete. LOL
ANGI: You are totally awesome. And I absolutely get the Nora Roberts moment. When I spoke with her for the first time it was wonderful !!

ANGI: What's your most favorite thing to do?
DANICA: When I’m stressed out I love to play the piano. Right now I’m going through movie scores like nobody’s business. I just played Come What May from Moulin Rouge. LOVE it.

ANGI: Favorite vacation spot?
DANICA: I am such a travel junkie. I love going anywhere. However, I love Savannah, Georgia and I’ve been talking about visiting it next spring so it’s on my mind. It’s such a beautiful and eclectic city.

ANGI: What do you like about the hero of your book?
DANICA: Jeremy is a serious hunk of man… He’s bad in all the right ways… And when push comes to shove he will always have his woman’s back. I can think of nothing more attractive than a man who will put his life and heart at risk for the woman he loves. Love is so incredibly hard. We all need a man in our lives who is willing to support us no matter what. >>smile<<

ANGI: What’s your favorite kid joke?
DANICA: Easy. I have two kids and they roll their eyes every time I tell this one:
How do you make a napkin dance?
Put a little boogie in it.
(Seriously, I totally laughed writing that!)

ANGI: What might we find in your heroine's purse?
DANICA: You would likely find a doll, used tissue, pepper spray, and a note from her mother.

ANGI: What was your Favorite thing about your first Harlequin Party?
DANICA: You. LOL Oh, it was truly a once in a lifetime event. I’m sure that all the parties will be great, but the first one… Oh my goodness. It was like a dream. I LOVED dancing with Nora Roberts, but my most memorable moment was when I was a little bit at a loss and Ms. Angi took my hand and led me to the dance floor. She said, “We are sisters.” I nearly cried and I’m not a crier. It was so incredible to be surrounded by a group of women who have the same passion for writing and who understand the sacrifices and work that goes into our profession. I am still gushing about that night.

ANGI: Would you rather be in a Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
DANICA: I should say action, but truthfully when it comes to fight or flight, I’m a flight risk. Just ask my husband. Once we went to a corn maze and a man with a chainsaw came at us. I threw myself into the corn like it was life and death.
I guess that means I am more of a Fairy Tale girl… In my defense though, who doesn’t want a man to rescue her when a man with a chainsaw is coming after her?

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie to watch with your daughter?
DANICA: I shouldn’t admit this as she may be a little young, but we LOVE watching Austenland. She thinks it’s hilarious. I like to think I’m raising her right by introducing her to the world of Jane Austen at a young age.

ANGI: What drinks or snacks are always on your desk when you’re writing?
DANICA: Depends on the time of day. I normally right when the kids are at school and then after they go to bed. Therefore, it’s either coffee or wine. As of late, I’ve been drinking lots of hot tea.

ANGI: Who’s your favorite cartoon character?
DANICA: I love Tom and Jerry.

ANGI’s GOTTA ASK: Last interview you mentioned that your favorite movie was Bridget Jones’ Diaries. Are you excited about the next installment: Bridget Jones’s Baby?
DANICA’s GOTTA ANSWER: I can’t believe you remember that… You are such a pro! I am super excited for Bridget Jones’s Baby. I read the books, but this one breaks from the literature… which kind of irks me. LOL Can you imagine me finding fault when someone diverges from the book?!

Even for a clairvoyant, the future is never a sure thing.

Helena has always struggled to fit in with her Irish Traveller family. It’s not just her opposition to getting married or her determination to attend university; Helena also has one talent that sets her apart from the rest of her clan—the gift of the Forshaw, the ability to see the future.

In search of a THEME SONG

Music has always played an important role in my life. I began singing in church youth groups and performed throughout high school. Throughout college, I was a backup singer for music majors. I can’t tell you the number of times I was singing surrounded by egg cartons. So when I hear the poetry in a well-written song…I’m inspired to write.

I mainly use the soundtracks from R.E.D., Sherlock Holmes or Knight & Day for writing. But there are a lot of love songs that are my go-to to set certain moods. Billy Currington’s Until You; Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now and Love This Pain; Rascal Flatts…Okay anything from them.

Side note: I was introduced to Billy Currington with the song LIKE MY DOG by my best friend Jan Schliesman. (He's not bad to look at, either.)

When writing PROTECTING THEIR CHILD, a story about a couple that divorced in spite of loving each other, I began by listening to Let It Hurt. There’s more than one time that my family made fun of me singing this at the top of my lungs before I settled in to write.

I’ll be attending RomCon this year. One of the reader workshops has karaoke and of course I signed up. But wait… we had to choose one (1) –YES ONE!–song that encapsulated our work…or one book. What? Just one? It took me six weeks. Not kidding.
I could have gone with Smash Mouth’s EVERYDAY HERO. Of course my guys are all “average, ordinary, everyday super heroes” but that didn’t work for my heroines. So I kept looking…
One of my husband’s favorite singers is Phillip Phillips. He’s super popular and you hear HOME all the time. I was actually practicing this, but something was still missing when using it to describe my books. Hmmm…action. And then…the next track on the album comes up…

“When enemies are at your door…”  YES !! That’s it exactly. I write on-the-run heroines caught in the wrong place at the wrong time books. AND !!!
“You're my back bone.
You're my cornerstone.
You're my crutch when my legs stop moving.
You're my head start.
You're my rugged heart.
You're the pulse that I've always needed.”

THIS IS THE ANGI MORGAN THEME SONG. DEFINITELY!

HE’D TAKE A BULLET FOR HER

His key witnesses dead, Texas Ranger Garrison Travis had to protect innocent bystander Kenderly Tyler. Her crucial evidence had two very dangerous Texas crime families willing to do anything to keep her quiet. But Garrison’s undercover status had branded him a killer, and now the bad and the good guys were after them both.

Hiding out with a handsome protector, on the run for her life, was so beyond anything Kenderly had imagined. While there was more than just adrenaline pulsing between them, the Ranger vowed his job was his life. Dare she wonder what would become of them should they actually make it out alive?

Regan Walker's Best of the Regency with Author Sandra Masters!

Regan here. Welcome to the Best of the Regency! My guest today is Sandra Masters. From a humble beginning in Newark, New Jersey, a short stay at a convent in Morristown, N.J. at the age of fourteen, Sandra retired from a fantastic career for a play broadcasting company in Carlsbad, California, and settled in the rural foothills of the Sierras of Yosemite National Park with her husband, Ron, and two dogs, Silky and Sophie. She traded in the Board Rooms for the Ballrooms of the Regency Era and never looked back.

She wrote her first book at the age of thirteen and since then she’s always traveled with pen and notebook for her writing experiences. It’s been the journey of ten thousand miles with a few steps left to go. She deemed it a pleasure to leave the corporate world behind decades later.
Nothing she expected, but everything she desired. Her business card lists her occupation as Living The Dream.

Be sure and comment and leave your email as Sandra is giving away her books to 4 lucky winners!  Three winners will get Once Upon a Duke (paperback if in the US, or ebook if international). A 4th winner will get the ebook for Once Upon a Duke plus a $25 Amazon gift card.

The Interview with Sandra:

Why did you decide to write Regency romance?

I was a voracious reader with a love of history, particularly the historical period of the Regency era. I started out writing contemporary romance, but when I was introduced to writers such as Mary Balogh and Judith McNaught, to mention but a few, I knew this era was for me.

It was the book Slightly Dangerous, the Simply Series by Balogh, that caused me to research everything Regency related. The story between Wulfric Bedwyn and Christine Derrick was so emotional, I can still remember it. The aloof duke and the witty Christine were so ill suited to each other but so real, that I needed for them to finally fall in love.  I keep the entire series in a special place in my library.

Judith McNaught’s book Whitney, My Love, had me spellbound from the very first page. Since then I have read most of her books. This hero was so conflicted that at times I hated him, and yet I wanted him to mend his relationship with Whitney because underneath the stern exterior dwelt the heart of a good man.  Such powerful and sizzling storytelling pulled me in from the beginning for a book that broke many of the rules.

This is a rather long explanation.  I do have over seven hundred books in my library, but at least three hundred are in the Regency era. My debut novel was Once Upon a Duke, released July 14, 2015. I have been on a marvelous journey ever since, with my fourth book in The Duke Series soon to be released in November 2016, The Duke’s Magnificent Bastard.

I sometimes think that in another life, I was born during the Regency period. I’ve never created a duke I didn’t fall in love with.

When do you write?

Writing to me is not a pastime or a way to make money, it is an obsession. I write twelve to thirteen hours a day, every day, and then I read in the wee time of a morning, which doesn’t leave too much time to clean the house. The dust puppies will always be there.

What is the genre of your new story The Duke’s Magnificent Bastard?

This is a multi cultural romance story of a seventeen-year-old Anglo West Indian bastard, Thorn Wick, now acknowledged by his father, The Duke of Althorn, who was never made aware of his birth. Our hero admires the ward of his father from afar, an aristocratic flirtatious English lady, Alicia, who has designs on him. Throw in our noble duke, an evil witch doctor, a Barbados tribal chieftain intent on redemption, horse racing for the Regent, amazing “heavenly” Argamak Turkmen horses, and a conspiracy to bring down the monarchy, and our plot thickens.  Lust, desire, passion all conflict to epic proportions. Honor, truth and justice are tested. And then there’s love!

Where did I get the idea for this story?

Ever since I can remember, the subject of bastardy fascinated. I read John Jakes eight book series that spanned generations and centuries, and decided I wanted to create a ‘magnificent’ bastard of my own.

Is he too young to be a trainer?

At age twenty-one, mature for his age, our hero is an acknowledged trainer of a special eastern breed of horses. His experience is gained working for a Scotsman who was famous for his Argamak Turkmen horses.  Thorn Wick and his father have great plans for training and breeding of the unusual horse. Thorn has acquired a step-brother, who is the duke’s heir; a step-grandmother who spoils him; a step-mother who is wary; and a fierce reputation.

How does Thorn react to the stigma?

Emotions run high. In 1820 Regency England, there is the stigma attached to our hero, Thorn Wick. Can anyone imagine how it must feel to be yanked from the West Indies where he was considered a half-breed, to London, England where he is considered illegitimate? Except for the noble duke’s recognition and that of the family who supports him, he would be denied relevance of any kind. Thorn fights for acceptance against all odds.
Prepare to be transported from island life in Barbados to aristocratic England and then back to Barbados where stunning revelations wrack our hero’s world.

Any stunning revelations?

Without spoiling the story for readers, all I can say is that there is a native uprising against foreign plantation owners, discovery of the truth about his mother’s death, and a flight to save his life as he swims out to a waiting ship bound for England.

Thank you, Regan, for allowing me to be a part of the Best of the Regency!

Now, for the readers, I’d love to ask them what they like to see in a Regency romance!

Get Lost in Western Historical Romance from Agnes Alexander

After a plea for help, Xenia Poindexter and her sister, Mea Ann rush to Arizona to help an uncle everyone says is not worth saving.

On the way, Mea Ann rescues a half-Indian baby and decides that no matter what happens she will raise the child.  When Xenia learns her uncle lured them west only to make prostitutes of them, she turns to  half-breed Ty Eldridge for help.

A true southern lady from Virginia, she never suspects she’d be tempted to care for the tall, lanky cowboy who is half Sioux. As it happens she doesn’t believe it herself – even after her sister has declared her intention of marrying Ty’s cousin, Wilt. Having been stung by a white woman in the past, Ty won’t let himself even consider falling for the beautiful Xenia.

Excerpt

“When you get to Deer Meadow, I’m sure you’ll find the men will appreciate you more. Then you won’t have to be subjected to an Indian raid or a man like Ty Eldridge.”
“Mr. Eldridge doesn’t seem so bad,” Mea Ann said. “He was careful to make sure there was no danger in here before he let us come in.”
He shook his head. “Now I know how innocent you and your sister are. Don’t you know what Eldridge is?”
Xenia interrupted. “I don’t think we should be discussing Mr. Eldridge or anyone else. It looks to me like we should be trying to find out what’s going on here.”
     “Xenia’s right,” Mea Ann said.
“You don’t have to worry. I’m sure the stage driver will know what to do if Eldridge doesn’t kill him first.”
“What do you mean?” Mea Ann looked scared.
“Don’t you know what he is?”
Xenia wasn’t sure what Lou was going to say, so she said, “It doesn’t matter what he is.” She stood. “I’m going to look out the window and see if I can tell why Mr. Eldridge told us to stay in here.”
“The breed probably put us here to wait for his friends to come back.”
She whirled around and glared at him. “What are you saying?”
“Can’t you tell he’s part Indian? They’re all alike. I got in a little trouble with one in Deer Meadow last time I was there. Just hope it’s all been cleared up by the time we get in.”
“What difference does it make if he has some Indian blood in him?”
“Oh, Miss Xenia. It’s an important factor in this area.”

Let's get to know Agnes...

Tea or Coffee? And how do you take it?
I’m not a big coffee or hot tea drinker. I usually have 1 cup of coffee in the morning with milk, no sugar. I only drink hot tea when I have a sore throat. As a Southerner, iced tea is a staple with meals and on hot, humid days.

What’s your favorite movie of all time?
WESTWARD THE WOMEN starring Robert Taylor and Denise Darcel. I saw it when I was a young girl and have watched my copies many times over the years. Though there are things in the movie I disagree with, the grit and the determination of these women is an inspiration to me. And to this day, I think of Robert Taylor as the perfect cowboy.

Be honest, when reading...do you put yourself in the heroine’s role?
Of course I do. I also put myself in the heroin’s role when I’m writing. I laugh, cry and hurt whenever they do. As best as I can I try to think and feel the same as the hero as well.

Is writing or story-telling easier for you?
Writing is much easier. I skip too much when I’m telling a story. I guess it’s because I’m in a hurry to get to the end.

Do you read reviews of your books? Is so, do you pay any attention to them, or let them influence your writing?
I do read them, but I don’t dwell on them. I’ve had good ones and bad ones and some I didn’t even understand. For instance, a woman raved about one of my books being the best one she ever read and she couldn’t wait to read more of my books. Then she gave me 1 star. Though I especially love the good ones, I never let them or the bad ones influence my writing. My characters are the only things that determine the way my story goes.

What turns you off like nothing else?
Writers who have been fortunate enough to have their books published who think they’re better or more important than the struggling newbie.  Most of the writers I’ve met, even the big names that most anyone would recognize, have been giving of their time to talk with a fan. But I’ve met one or two big and one book authors who have brushed aside a fan asking questions, and then made fun of the person behind their back. I admit I’ve never bought these peoples’ books and I won’t in the future.

What’s something you’d like to tell your fans?
I wish I could personally thank everyone who has bought and read my books. Without you I would not be able to do the work I love. I appreciate seeing you at signings, getting your notes and emails telling me you like a particular book. I also appreciate the reviews you take the time to write on different outlets. This is one of the greatest compliments a fan can give a writer.

Today, Agnes is giving away 1 signed print book and 1 eBook. Just leave a comment and enter the drawing.
