DELORES FOSSEN

KADE
The Lawmen of Silver Creek Ranch

One look at the baby girl, and there was no question Kade Ryland was the father. For three months, Kade had posed as Bree Winston's husband at the Fulbright Fertility Clinic, while the two FBI agents investigated a trail of illegal adoptions and surrogates. Nine months later, a baby was dropped at his feet—and Bree was nowhere to be found. Now Kade had to reopen a case that had gotten way too personal and find Bree—fast. But if the two of them had never been a real couple, were they ready to be parents?
Whatever the answer, Kade now had more than one reason to close this case once and for all.

Delores Fossen QUICK FACTS:
  • published 45 books
  • began writing in  1998
  • hometown or favorite city: San Antonio, TX
  • ice cream or cake? ice cream
  • hiking or biking? hiking (requires less coordination!)

Can you tell us about a real-life hero you’ve met?
DELORES: That'd be my husband, Colonel Thomas Fossen. A former Top Gun and all around cool guy, there's a little bit of him in all my fictional heroes.

What or who inspired the hero for KADE?
DELORES:  Several people including my late brother who had a quiet strength about him. Also, I know some real cowboys, and there's some of their hard working confidence mixed in. But I also gave Kade some kick-butt qualities like Jim Caviezil in Person of Interest.

Is there a hero you’re just dying to write about for Intrigue?
DELORES: I want to write more cowboy cops, especially a Marshal or two. Well, six actually. J My next series is the Marshals of Maverick County, and all the heroes are U.S. Marshals. The first book, DALLAS, comes out in May 2013.

What’s your favorite way you’ve killed someone (in your books of course)?
DELORES:  Well, she didn't actually die, but I had a character chased by attack dogs through a hedge maze.

What’s your favorite thing about the Harlequin Party?
DELORES: the dancing! No wait, the food and drinks. And the people. Hey, I love everything about the Harlequin party.

Where are some unusual places your characters have ‘made out’?
DELORES: Since I write cowboys, making out places include barns, in the saddle, pastures, but I did have a couple make out in a pantry surrounded by Oreos and another in the break room at a police station.

GOTTA ASK: If you had to choose a movie to describe KADE, which would it be?
DELORES HAS GOTTA ANSWER:   Can I choose a TV show instead? Justified with Timothy Oliphant. Kade has that kind of dark intensity and looks great in a cowboy hat, too.

  4. I a huge fan of the Intrigue line and your books so I'm excited to hear about your upcoming series!

My favorite kick butt hero of TV the past few years has been Chuck - the computer nerd turned CIA agent. I really enjoy unlikely hero stories!

  5. Can't believe you're at 45 now, Delores, and each as good or better than the last! And I got a little misty-eyed on your answer to where you get your heroes! Here's to another 45 books or more--the marshal series sounds marvelous!

  6. Sabrina, thanks! I'm excited about the new series, too, but it took me a while to get this current series out of my head. When I finished writing the final book, MASON, I felt so lost as if I'd lost real friends. Yes, a writer's mind is a strange place. lol

    I like Chuck as well!

    Thanks for dropping by.

  7. Leslie, I know what you mean about #45. When I first started writing, I never thought I'd be lucky enough to have that many books. I'm actually writing my 51st Harlequin now (my 54th over all) so that 45 number will soon go up. :) I hope it continues!

Thanks! It's always great to chat with you.
