DV Berkom and Bad Traffick

Get Lost in a Story Readers, what would you do if YOU were named a person of interest in three cold case murders? Sound compelling? DV Berkom's protagonist Leine Basso is involved in just that. Want to learn more?  Please welcome DV Berkom to Get Lost in a Story.

BAD TRAFFICK (Named a Night Owl Review TOP PICK!)
(Leine Basso Novel #2)

ABOUT BAD TRAFFICK:

Identified as a person of interest in three cold case murders she didn't commit, and required to remain in L.A., retired assassin Leine Basso accepts a temporary position as a security specialist for A-list actor Miles Fournier, who believes he is the target of kidnappers. Leine finds she has her hands full trying to protect the head-strong celebrity, while at the same time fighting her desire for Detective Santiago Jensen; a game she knows she can't win.

Soon, a woman contacts Miles, claiming to be his long-lost sister. She confesses her twelve-year-old daughter, Mara, has been abducted by sex-traffickers and she's desperate to get her back, hoping that Miles will use his considerable resources to find her.

Leine learns from a contact at a rescue organization that Mara escaped and is alone on the streets in the sprawling city of Los Angeles. The traffickers are determined to track her down and deliver her to the powerful client who purchased her for his twisted ends. Running out of time, Leine must find Mara before they do, or she will be lost forever.

WELCOME TO GET LOST IN A STORY D.V.

D.V. Thanks for having me, Donnell!

If you could live any place on earth, and money was no object, where would it be?

D.V. So far, I would have to say on a yacht in St. John in the US Virgin Islands. The snorkeling is exceptional and the beaches are spectacular. The people are pretty fabulous, too. And don't get me started on the food…

DONNELL: We obviously enjoy the same type of books. Is your life as suspenseful as your fiction?

D.V. Ha! Great question. My impulsive— some would say imprudent—nature has led me to a veritable cornucopia of pretty exciting (and really stupid) experiences. I wouldn't trade them for anything. That being said, I'm a tad tamer these days. The riskiest thing I've done lately is climb to the top of the Honey God pyramid at the ruins of Cobá, Mexico.

DONNELL: You’ve stopped in at a coffee shop. Do you order coffee or something else?

D.V. If there were no calories involved, I'd probably go for a mocha-caramel-dark chocolate frappuccino with whipped cream. Since I'm living in the real world, it's coffee with cream.

DONNELL: Wow, imagine being listed a person of interest in cold cases you didn’t commit. Let’s put the author in the place of her protagonist. What would you do as opposed to your protagonist?

D.V. Assume the fetal position in a dark corner and weep uncontrollably. After that, I'd probably find the best damned lawyer on the planet and sell my left kidney and possibly my liver to pay her fees. Although, I've found I'm quite fond of my liver, the sale of which might get me the mocha frappuccino I mentioned above—or not. My character, Leine Basso, would simply go to ground with her favorite weapons, working her contacts in the underworld to disappear.

DONNELL: I know you write thrillers and suspense, but is this your favorite genre to read?

D.V. Most definitely. I love black humor, as well.

DONNELL: Who influenced your writing?

D.V. I would have to credit that one to author Carl Hiaasen. Reading his books led me to believe there were people out there with a warped a sense of humor who still gave a sh*t about important things like the environment and political corruption.

DONNELL: What’s the most unusual thing in your closet?

D.V. Joss paper and a Tibetan hand bell.

DONNELL: If you could meet anyone past or present, who would it be and why?

D.V. It would have to be the Dalai Lama. If he's not available, then I opt for Dorothy Parker.

Now it’s your turn, D.V. Time to ask Readers a Question.

Readers: Currently, I'm working on the 6th book in the bestselling Kate Jones Thriller series, and expect to have it available sometime in April, with the 7th planned sometime after that. I'm also planning to release the 3rd Leine Basso thriller later in the year. What would you like to see happen next for either Leine and/or Kate?

I'm giving away 1 print edition of the first book in the Leine Basso series, Serial Date (US only. Commenters outside of the US will receive an e-copy, any format. Note: Bad Traffick [ebook edition] is due to go free on Amazon on Friday, March 8). Also, a $10 e-gift card to either Barnes & Noble or Amazon.

  3. HELLO D.V. -- So glad you could stop by GLIAS. Donnell gives a great interview, but I love your answers. I could definitely live on a yacht in the next slip. Very cool. Have you ever been to Vancouver, BC? Lots of yachts in the harbor there. Gave me an idea for a story waking up with the commuter flights at 7:01 AM every day.

    1. Hi Angie! I've never been to Vancouver (although my sweetie assures me we'll get there this summer :-)) but hear it's fabulous. Loved Victoria, have been there several times. Travel is always such fertile ground for writing, eh?

    3. HI DV,

Good interview. Loved St. John too, and can definitely identify with weeping while hiring the best defense lawyer around.
