Eight years ago, Lieutenant Luke Ripton made a hasty wartime marriage-in-name-only to protect a young girl from a forced union and left her protected in a remote mountain convent. Now, Luke is Lord Ripton, but he has been unable to obtain an annulment. Which leaves him no choice but to collect a wife he doesn't want.

For eight years Isabella has waited like a princess locked in a tower, dreaming of her handsome, dark-eyed prince. Her dreams are shattered when Luke reveals himself not as a prince, but an autocratic soldier, expecting her unquestioning obedience, which is something Isabella's fiercely independent nature will not tolerate.

Charged with a crime they didn’t commit, the MacKinnon brothers faced a death sentence until they agreed to serve the British Crown in the colonies and take up arms against the French. Allied with the Indian tribes who lived beside them in the wilderness, the Scottish Highland warriors forged a new breed of soldier…

Major Connor MacKinnon despises his commander, Lord William Wentworth, beyond all other men. Ordered to rescue Wentworth’s niece after the Shawnee take her captive, he expects Lady Sarah Woodville to be every bit as contemptible as her uncle. Instead, he finds a brave and beautiful lass in desperate peril. But the only way to free Sarah is for Connor to defeat the Shawnee warrior who kidnapped her—and claim her himself.

Torn by tragedy from her sheltered life in London, Lady Sarah is unprepared for the harshness of the frontier—or for the attraction she feels toward Connor. When they reach civilization, however, it is she who must protect him. For if her uncle knew all that Connor had done to save her, he would surely kill him.

But the flames of passion, once kindled, are difficult to deny. As desire transforms into love, Connor will have to defy an empire to keep Sarah at his side.

He will win his place in the guard—and in Mary of Mar’s bed.

The ruggedly handsome hero-in-the-making stirs a heart that should know better. Mary vows that her surrender will be sport only—no promises, no heartbreak, just one night of incredible passion. Nothing, she swears, will persuade her to give up her hard-wrought independence and put her fate in the hands of another powerful man. But with every gentle touch and heart-pounding kiss, Kenneth makes her want more. Now Mary wants his heart. But is this determined champion willing to surrender everything for love?

My favorite historical movie... there are too many to name. I recently watched Mrs. Miniver, which gave me a different perspective of WWII. Elizabeth. The King's Speech. I can go on and on and they're all not about the UK (I promise).

  4. I enjoy many historical movies but my favorite would still have to be The Sound of Music.
Thanks for sharing a little about all the great finalist. Wow...it's been a good year for us readers with so many wonderful stories to read.

  5. Gone With the Wind is one of my favorites. Congrats to all the nominess.

  6. Oh wow - my favorite historical movie. The Patriot with Mel Gibson is the first that comes to mind. But I don't know if I'd say it was my favorite. There have been many I've enjoyed, and several I've seen over & over on TV. I guess Gone With the Wind would have to be a favorite.

Thanks for highlighting the Historical nominees today. I'd already read about some of these - and have them on my TBR list (i.e. BEAUTY AND THE BOUNTY HUNTER, WEDDED IN SIN, and A LADY NEVER SURRENDERS), but now the others will go there also.

  7. Hmmm... well... Scarlett Pimpernel is one of favorite even though it's not really historically accurate. :) Love Sir Percy. :)

I read some of the books and really enjoyed it!

  8. don't have a fav movie

  9. Just ran into Pamela Clare. See her picture with our very own Clover on my Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=649761708385547&l=716f7b47bc

  14. Congrats to the nominees! I love Gone with the Wind! Although I haven't read the book I absolutely love it! (I think it's the gowns LOL and I think this movie influenced my love for historical romance books)

  15. The Sound of Music

Good luck to all the Rita Nominees

  16. The sound of music! I've lost count of the number of times I've watched it.

  17. I would say The Sound Of Music is probably my favorite

  18. There are so many, most of the above mentioned ones. Romantic, love story, historical (costumes) "Drei Haselnuesse fuer Aschenbroedel" (three wishes for Cinderella) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070832/ is my alltime favourite, rescued from my childhood into my adulthood I have seen this 100s of times.
    Another would be "Ladyhawke" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ladyhawke

  19. I would have to go with Pride & Prejudice! Good luck everyone!

  20. BRAVEHEART William Wallace's story taking place in the 1300's when Scotland was fighting desperately for independence from England.

Oh I do love historical romances!.

  21. First one I ever saw, "Gone With The Wind".

  22. FAVORITE HISTORICAL MOVIE is Gone With the Wind

  23. Love All Sabrina Jefferies Books The Clothes The Castles The Parties Yor Go Right In Sit Down And Watch The Story !

  24. It would have to be pride and prejudice. There are other ones that I like but I love the movie. I even love the score so much that I can put the movie on and not even watch, just enjoy the music

  25. I'm going with Braveheart but it's only one of many that I enjoy!!

  26. Congratulations to all. I couldn't pick a winner because I love reading them all.

  27. Good luck to all nominees. I thank you for your talent.

  28. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite.

  29. Favorite historical movie - Where do I start? Or more importantly, where should I end? If it's just a movie with a historical setting, I have a slew of those. But one with some historical significance, that's different. Two are my favorites and both happen to be Mel Gibson films: THE PATRIOT and BRAVEHEART.

THE PATRIOT was filmed in my adopted home state of South Carolina and Mel Gibson's character loosely based on Revoulutionary War Hero, Francis Marion.

BRAVEHEART, not only the film, but the musical score is one of my favorite soundtracks to listen to. Absolutely stunning!

  30. My favorite historical movie would have to be The Patriot.
