Patience Griffin - Amazing New Contemporary Scottish Romance Author

MEET PATIENCE GRIFFIN:

I’m pleased to introduce you to one of my close friends. not only is she a good friend, she’s a first rate writer. Her debut novel is already a hit with a starred review from Publisher’s Weekly.
PATIENCE GRIFFIN grew up in a small town along the Mississippi River, living life in a close-knit community. She loves to quilt and has gained some recognition with her September 11th Story Quilt which has toured the country as the property of the Pentagon. With a master’s degree in nuclear engineering, she’s a nerdy girl to the core, but loves to read books which make her laugh. She lives in Texas with a hyper Sheltie, a Bishon-poo and a bulimic stray cat.

TO SCOTLAND WITH LOVE

EXCERPT:

Caitriona Macleod gave up her career as an investigative reporter for the role of perfect wife. But after her husband is found dead in his mistress’s bed, a devastated Cait leaves Chicago for the birthplace she hasn’t seen since she was a child. She’s hoping to heal and to reconnect with her gran. The last thing she expects to find in Gandiegow is the Sexiest Man Alive! She just may have stumbled on the ticket to reigniting her career—if her heart doesn’t get in the way.

Graham Buchanan is a movie star with many secrets. A Gandiegow native, he frequently hides out in his hometown between films. He also has a son he’ll do anything to protect. But Cait Macleod is too damn appealing—even if she is a journalist.

Quilting with her gran and the other women of the village brings Cait a peace she hasn’t known in years. But if she turns in the story about Graham, Gandiegow will never forgive her for betraying one of its own. Should she suffer the consequences to resurrect her career? Or listen to her battered and bruised heart and give love another chance?

QUESTIONS FOR PATIENCE:

Kathleen: TO SCOTLAND WITH LOVE is a captivating read, I enjoyed it immensely. I noticed you got a starred review from Publisher’s Weekly. Congratulations! Well deserved. It’s very tenderly written. You managed to make me laugh while dealing with some fairly painful subjects. This is the first of the Kilts and Quilts series. This is an intriguing combination. What made you want to combine those two elements, kilts and quilts?

PATIENCE: I love, love, love Scottish romances! Give me a man in a kilt and a wee bit of plaid and I’m hooked. When I started writing novels, I wrote what I love. Did I mention that I love Scottish romances?
I’m also a quilter. And like most quilters, I’m addicted to fabric. Us, quilters, believe that the one that dies with the most fabric wins. I have quite a stash of fabric and add to it whenever I can. I haven’t counted the number of quilts I’ve made, but it’s a lot. Nearly all of them, I have given away.
To Scotland with Love combines elements that I’m passionate about…a story of kilts, quilts, and small loving communities.

Kathleen: What’s the first book you remember reading?

PATIENCE: The Cat in the Hat. I was at my grandmother’s house and no one had time to read to me. I remember sitting with the book in lap, reading it myself.

Kathleen: What’s your favorite “love” word?

PATIENCE: Honey-I-unloaded-the-dishes. It melts my heart every time.

Kathleen: What’s your favorite movie of all time?

PATIENCE: This is a really hard one…but my go-to movie is the 2005 version of Pride & Prejudice. Yes, I adore the Colin Firth version—we’ve all been affected by Mr. Darcy coming out of the pond, dripping wet—but there are elements in the Kiera Knightly and Matthew Macfadyen version that have me watching it over and over again. I love the music (I own the soundtrack). I love the scenery—oh, to be in England. I love the tweak to Mr. Darcy; Darcy’s pride has more to do with how hard it is for him to converse with people he doesn’t know than with him being a snob. Pride & Prejudice is also a movie that my husband will watch with me over and over again too.

Kathleen: What is your biggest vice?

PATIENCE: The honest answer is food. To be more specific, potatoes—any kind. No, I need to change my answer that to chocolate—any kind. No, chicken tetrazzini. I also love brussel sprouts, most things on the menu at Olive Garden, and cake. Boy, do I love cake.

Kathleen: What’s your favorite kind of story to get lost in?

PATIENCE: I like big emotional stories. Stories that have lots of plot with some humor thrown in. I want a story that challenges me, one where I can root for the characters, and live what they live.

Kathleen: I understand you have teamed up with a quilt designer?

PATIENCE: Yes, I’m very excited about our collaboration. For every book in the Kilts & Quilts series, Cynthie from IowaStarQuilts.com is designing a special quilt. IowaStarQuilts.com will then offer the pattern online for those who want to purchase it. The featured quilt in To Scotland with Love is the Gandiegow Star Quilt. We have a real treat for readers, regarding the Gandiegow Star Quilt.

    1. It's never too late to learn to quilt. I had always wanted a quilt and one never magically appeared so I decided one day that I better make one myself. I bought a magazine that touted a-quilt-in-a-weekend...it took me two years. But I also had a newborn when I started that quilt. Seventeen years later, it is still on our bed.

  9. Congrats on your debut book, Patience! It sounds fabulous!

I used to do counted cross stitch and quilting. Now I read, but will have to get back into my crafts. I always gave away what I made so have nothing of my own.

    1. Hi, Marcy, that's what's happened to most of the quilts I've made. But I know that the love is spread around. Thanks for stopping by tonight on Facebook. That was so much fun!

  10. Hi Patience,
Congrats on your release! I LOVED it!!! So happy for you! I loved the tie in with the quilts. I know nothing about quilts except that they can keep you warm in the winter and you stitch blocks of fabric together in different patterns. :) It was fun to learn something new.

    Here's to many, many sales!!
