THE DEVIL TAKES A BRIDE
The Cabot Sisters, book 2

A plan born of desperation…

Once the toast of society, Grace Cabot and her sisters now await the shame of losing high status and fine luxuries upon the death of the Earl of Beckington. The dire circumstances are inevitable unless, of course, Grace's wicked plot to seduce a wealthy viscount into marriage goes off without a single hitch. But once a stolen embrace with the wrong man leads her to be discovered in the arms of Jeffrey, the Earl of Merryton, her plan takes a most unexpected—and scorching—twist.

and altered by passion.

Governed by routine and ruled by duty, Jeffrey had no desire for a wife before he succumbed to Grace's temptation. Though his golden-haired, in-name-only bride is the definition of disorder, he can't resist wanting her in every way. But once her secrets meet his, society might consider their lives to be ruined beyond repair while Jeffrey might just see it as a new beginning.

THE Q&A
ANGI: How often to you get lost in a story?
JULIA: If you mean the stories I write, the answer is rarely.  I am generally thinking of it from a technical standpoint - what needs to happen where.  But when I am reading for pleasure, I get lost all the time.  I am reluctant to admit that I am one of those put-down-the-book people if the book is not speaking to me.  So if I'm not lost in the story, I'm putting that sucker down.  Doesn't happen very often, but it happens.

ANGI: What’s the first book you remember reading?
JULIA:  First book that I can remember is Winnie the Pooh.  But what I really remember is the first book that sank into me and that was Go Ask Alice.  I was probably 11 or 12 and oh my, did that book make an impression.  It was the seventies, and I am sure my mother had no clue what I was reading.  Which is the great thing about my reading history - my parents let me read everything.  I was never censored.  I think as a result of reading so much and in so many different genres over the years,  I always come back to a good love story.  Maybe that's what Go Ask Alice taught me -- go for the love stories instead!  Ha.

ANGI: What do you like about the hero of your book?
JULIA:  I like Jeffrey because he is different than the usual regency earl or duke.  His alpha male stems from his OCD and his absolute need to control his environment or lose his mind.  He walks a fine line every day, struggling with the obsessions he doesn't understand and believes have already condemned him to hell.  It takes someone completely outside of his world to pull him out of his mind and make him understand that even he is worthy of a woman's esteem.  I really, really enjoyed writing him.

ANGI: Where do you read and how often?
JULIA:  I read most days, usually at the table.  I try and take a break from my own writing to read other books, and usually the only time I have to do that is at breakfast or lunch.  I've been listening to a lot of audio books lately.  I can take them in the car and while I run.

ANGI: What was the first story you remember writing?
JULIA:  LOL!  I was six and I wrote a story about a girl who was part of a wagon train and was  captured by Indians, but the captain of the wagon train saved her.  Can you tell I grew up in the west?  And that from the age of six I was thinking about damsels in distress and the men who save them?  I wrote it on a Big Chief tablet and it's still floating around in my mother's house somewhere.

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
JULIA:  Pride and Prejudice, BBC version, Colin Firth ('nuf said).   I've probably seen it three or four times and I would watch it again, right here, right now.

ANGI: What's your most favorite thing to do in your state?
JULIA:  Here's what I like about Texas:  The weather is generally good year round, except for August and January.  I like to get outdoors every day-I run with my dog or I bike, or I take long walks - and I love that I can do that pretty much year round in Texas.

ANGI: What is your biggest vice?
JULIA:  chocolate!  Can't go without it.  I will go so far as to say that I am addicted to chocolate and don't care.

ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: Have you ever been to one of your cover shoots?
JULIA’S GOTTA ANSWER: I have never been to a cover shoot!  If I could be at any of them, I would have liked to be at the shoot for The Devil Takes a Bride.  He was a devil, dark and brooding, and I wondered how they were going to convey this dark and brooding man was also sexy.  What a challenge!  HQN did a great blog about the cover shoot.  When I saw that, it kind of felt like I was there.

  2. Welcome, Julia! Delighted to have you here as a guest on GLIAS. We LOVE historical romance. This series sounds great, and I particularly like that you're writing about a hero who has some serious issues to deal with. How did you come up with Jeffrey?

    1. I read somewhere that Samuel Johnson had OCD and Tourette's Syndrome. I couldn't imagine how a person would cope in a world where OCD was unknown and people just thought you were peculiar and weird and a little afraid of you.

  11. My favorite thing to do in my home state of California is to visit the beaches and eat sea food! Although like many others I am not originally from California. I'm from Texas too. I do love to go back and visit family whenever the chance arises. :)
