SMOKE & ASHES
Harlequin Intrigue
Montana's bravest…and hottest
With a mysterious arsonist on the loose in Missoula, fire inspector Kevin Jensen saves more than Heather Sampson's house. The sexy single father rescues her from an abusive marriage—and discovers his own past failures don't have to rule his life. Especially when sparks between him and Heather ignite irresistible desire.
But who's the arsonist? Why target Heather? What's his shocking motive? When Heather faces off with him in a brutal attack, she needs her "white knight" as much as he needs her. Both have looked into their souls and risked their broken hearts for each other. Now Kevin will have to risk his life and his heart.

DANICA: Oh, daily… I love a good story. I’m notorious for asking strangers about their lives and often some of their stories are weaved into the backgrounds of my characters. It’s actually how I came up with Heather Sampson, the heroine of Smoke and Ashes.
ANGI: Hugh Jackman or Chris Pine?
DANICA: Hugh… All the way. Though I would share a glass of wine with either of them. ;)
ANGI: Can you tell us about a real-life hero you’ve met?
DANICA: For the release of this book I have been talking to my local YWCA. There is a wonderful woman, Patty Murphy, who has been working with the organization for 17 years. She has helped thousands of women find safety and lives built upon self-sufficiency. She is truly changing women’s lives.
ANGI: What's your most favorite thing to do in your state?
DANICA: Montana is a big state with even bigger mountains and skies. I love to be outside… hiking, biking, softball, basketball… I do it all (but none of it well).
ANGI: What’s your favorite meal?
DANICA: There is nothing better than a country-fried steak, mashed potatoes and corn. I’m easy to please.
ANGI: What do you like about the heroine of your book?
DANICA: I love that Heather is a woman who realizes she wants something different in her life and no longer wants to be a subjugated. While Kevin literally saves her, she has taken the steps required to end an unhealthy relationship and open her heart to new love.
ANGI: Sand or Snow?
DANICA: Hmmm…. Sand in January, snow in July… What can I say, I want it all!
ANGI: Would you rather be in a Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
DANICA: Fairy tale. I’m terrified of heights, so I’m sure that my character would be forced to jump a cliff in order to complete their character arc… Nope. Not gonna happen.
ANGI: What’s your favorite rerun on television?
DANICA: My daughter and I have been deep in I Love Lucy episodes. We both love the wallpaper episode.
ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
DANICA: Hmmm… Bridget Jones’ Diary resonates with me. I am her, I swear. Put me in front of a microphone and I will say something ridiculous (not to mention the bits that are popular with grannies the world over). ;)
ANGI: What drinks or snacks are always on your desk when you’re writing?
DANICA: I love tea and coffee. I always have one or the other (and sometimes both) at my computer’s side.
ANGI: Who’s your favorite villain?
DANICA: I love Boyd Krauter from Justified. He is perfect.
ANGI: Hiking Boots or Dancing Heels?
DANICA: LOL Easy! Boots.
ANGI: Are you a Star Wars fan?
DANICA: I love the new film—especially Ray and Finn.
ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: What’s one thing from your bucket list?
DANICA’S GOTTA ANSWER: I want to visit Ireland—especially Adare Manor. I was *this close* to going this year, but I have a bit of hectic schedule (note the kids reference earlier in the interview). My evenings right now are spent coaching softball and as a general shuttle service. J But I will see Ireland in the next few years, I may just have to take the mini-mes along with me.
DUST UP WITH THE DETECTIVE
Montana Heroes Series, Book 2
September 18, 2016
One bad decision can cost you your life…
When she was young, Blake West had been in a rush to escape a mining town in Montana where she’d been born and raised; instead, a single decision left her with a child and dreams that are now nothing more than a distant memory.
To support her daughter, Blake has taken a job as a Sherriff’s Deputy. Her days are filled with little more than automobile accidents and drunken brawls until the day Detective Jeremy Lawrence’s brother goes missing.
Together Blake and Detective Lawrence must uncover the clues about his brother’s possible demise, all while keeping a safe distance from the feelings that surface between them. As the mystery unfolds, only one thing becomes clear—not everything is as it seems and sometimes, even in rural Montana, the bad guy wins.

DANICA WANTS TO KNOW: How did you fall in love? What is the moment you knew they (your significant other or pet) were the one?
Still waiting to find the right guy... I love the title of your book... I named two cats I found in my yard Smoke and Ashes 2 years ago. :)

Deleten/a
ReplyDeleteI knew he was the one, early on when we were dating, when he stayed to take care of me when I was very sick with the flu. Most guys would have left not wanting to catch what I had. Plus, he has healing hands when he touches me! We have been married 21 years now.
ReplyDeleteOh, that is so sweet... there is nothing better than a man who treats a woman like the princess she is. We all deserve to be pampered!! ;)
DeleteGlad to have you here, Danica !
ReplyDeleteThanks for having me!!
DeleteWhen I saw my future husband as I was coming down the stairs at my work . When our eyes met, it was like time stood still. Now 46 years later it's still going strong.
