RITA WINNER JANE PORTER

It is my absolute joy to bring my friend Jane Porter to Get Lost for her first visit. Jane is one of my regular HUG BUDDIES.

Recently she gave me two new mantras: DON'T COVET THY NEIGHBOR'S DRAGON & YOU CAN'T LIVE A LIFE OF 'NOT ENOUGHS'. Beautiful inside and out...a wonderful person and writer. I can't wait for you to meet her.

See a video interview with Jan after Jane won her RWA RITA!

AWAY IN MONTANA
Douglas Ranch of Paradise Valley, Book 1

Beautiful, spirited heiress McKenna Frasier–daughter to one of the Butte Copper Kings—vowed eternal love to Sinclair Douglas before she left for college and an introduction to society.  Four years in New York and travel abroad have opened her eyes, making her realize she wanted more than marriage and a simple Montana life.  But when McKenna commits an unforgivable transgression and destroys her reputation, her dreams are shattered and she is forced to return to Montana disgraced, disowned and unmarriageable.

Sinclair Douglas left Butte to escape the Frasier power and Frasier name, but suddenly all anyone talks about in Marietta is scandalous McKenna Douglas, Paradise Valley’s new teacher.  Sin doesn’t want to know about McKenna anymore.  He doesn’t want to have to help her, and he sure as hell doesn’t want to love her.  But McKenna has lived so long in his heart that it’s her home–even if she doesn’t deserve to be there.

But if there is one man who knows how to rebuild a life when all dreams have been smashed, it’s fierce, uncompromising Sinclair Douglas.  Can Sinclair and McKenna heal enough to find their own Christmas miracle, and one more chance at love?

A LITTLE ABOUT JANE
Jane Porter, the NYT and USA Today bestselling author of 50 romances and 11 women's fiction novels, holds an MA in Writing from the University of San Francisco and has been a finalist for the prestigious RITA award five times, with her novella, Take Me, Cowboy, winning the Novella Category July 2014.   Jane's wildly popular novel, Flirting with Forty, was made into a Lifetime movie starring Heather Locklear and was loosely inspired by her husband, Ty Gurney, an Oahu resident with his own surf school in Waikiki.  An advocate for writers, Jane founded Tule Publishing in 2013 to give romance and women's fiction authors support and opportunities.

GETTING TO KNOW JANE A LITTLE MORE

ANGI: How often to you get lost in a story?
JANE: I am lost in a story every day of my life.  On the days I write, I'm lost in mine.  When not on deadline, I'm lost in someone else's.  Even walking around, I make up stories constantly.  I don't know how to exist without a story.

ANGI: Hugh Jackman or Chris Pine?
JANE: Hugh Jackman

ANGI: Can you tell us about a real-life hero you’ve met?
JANE: My younger brother's father-in-law is a retired fireman, 5th generation San Fracisco fireman at that.  I love how his family has served the city of San Francisco and how much he loves his community.

ANGI: What's your most favorite thing to do in your state?
JANE: I have 3 loves--visiting the California missions (we have one near me in San Juan Capistrano and its beyond beautiful), the mountains, and then our family ranch near Parkfield, California where there is no one for miles and it is so peaceful.

ANGI: What do you like about the hero of your book?
JANE: He's so solid and grounded.  He's very strong physically and mentally, and loyal.  And he'll move mountains--literally-for his woman.

ANGI: Sand or Snow?
JANE: Do I have to pick?  I love both.  But from a chair, with a book, with a view.

ANGI: What might we find in your heroine's purse?
JANE: Not much.  Women in the 1880's didn't carry much in a purse.

ANGI: Superman or Batman?
JANE: Can I pick Thor instead?  :)

ANGI: Would you rather be in a Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
JANE: Fairy tale, by far.

ANGI: What’s your favorite rerun on television?
JANE: I don't watch reruns....or much TV other than my favorite reality programs (Project Runway, So You Think You Can Dance, and The Voice.)

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
JANE: probably the Pride & Prejudice with Colin Firth

ANGI: What drinks or snacks are always on your desk when you’re writing?
JANE: Hot tea and a tall glass of ice water.

ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: What’s one thing from your bucket list?
JANE’s GOTTA ANSWER:   I want to go to Greece and stay for three weeks, visiting as many islands as possible.  Maybe I could stay even longer and write, too.  I love to stay in a foreign place and write and try to soak up everything I can about the atmosphere...the way the sun rises, and the smells, and how coffee is served, and the pace of a place.

JANE WANTS TO KNOW: Do you read historical romance, and is there a favorite time period you like to read?  Is there a time period you don't like to read?  For example, I have avoided reading Western romances for the past ten years, and then an idea came to me, and I wrote a Western setting with Victorian themes, and I ended up loving the time period, and am now going to write a series set in the 1890's.  Tell me about your preferences as I love to know what my fellow readers think!

  8. Great article! I read a lot of historical romance and fiction. There is no specific period I prefer, although I don't find that many Victorian novels, I think it's a fascinating era because of the world is changing so much. Away in Montana looks great and I am looking forward to reading it. A Victorian Christmas in the Old West, what could be better!

  9. I love historical romance. The first romances I read were medieval Highland stories and they are still a favorite. I do like westerns, any time period. I like most historical periods up until about the 1930's or so. I have read some WWII stories lately that are pretty good. A good story is a good story, no mater what the time period or sub-genre. Montana is a beautiful state. Wide open spaces and strong, independent people.
You have put together a very nice prize package. I hope you have A wonderful Christmas and a Great New Year.

  10. I love historical romance! My favourite author of all time is Diana Gabaldon but I am a HUGE fan of Jane Porter as well. I've read all of her women's fiction novels which are my favourite of her work, but I've also read several of her Taming of the Sheenans romances as well. Jane is a terrific storyteller and that's the key for me when falling for the work of an author I've never read before.

    1. P.S. I forgot to mention my favourite time period for historical romance...I love medieval times the most. I'm a sucker for castles and Irish, Scottish and English history. I'm not fussy on reading stories set in either World War I or II, but anything from the 14th century to the 19th is at least worth me reading the book jacket to see if I'm captivated by the sound of the story.
