Christa Sinclair - Faith, Love and Bounty Hunters

I admit to being a mad keen reader of romantic suspense, but I haven’t yet read a Love Inspired Suspense book, so I was very keen to catch up with Christa Sinclair – whose debut book Fugitive Pursuit is hot off the press – to find out a little more about this line!

About Christa...

Christa Sinclair moved from New England to escape the harsh winters and settled in Texas once she received her Master's Degree in Education. When she's not teaching high school English or traveling around the world, she's creating brave new characters who overcome danger to find love and to make sure the good guys always win.

Is the bounty hunter’s target really an innocent woman?

Convinced her sheriff brother-in-law murdered her sister, Jamie Carter hides her six-year-old niece away until she can prove his crimes. Bounty hunter Zack Owen is bound by the law to turn her in, but Jamie’s story sways him to protect her instead. On the run together, Zack must face the personal price of falling for his fugitive.

Read a little...

“Jamie Carter.” A deep voice stirred something within her—fear, ease, maybe a bit of both.

Customers nearby stared at her.

She stopped and slowly turned to face the man about ten yards away from her. Dark hair, dark clothes. A few inches taller than her five foot seven, with well-defined muscle in his limbs, he could prove to be a challenge during her escape. She’d never seen him before. Could he be one of Drew’s musclemen? Or a new deputy?

“How’d you find me?” Like a wheel, her brain spun, scanning the surroundings, searching for freedom. Leaving by the front door would be impossible.

He shrugged one shoulder. “I asked around. Took a chance you’d be in the neighborhood.” When he stepped closer, she could see hair that barely touched his shoulders and a handsome face with a rounded jaw. “I’m sorry about your sister.”

A sense of intimacy rolled between them, his words like a balm over her broken heart.

Jamie shook her head. Crazy. The man was the enemy. “Sure, you really care.”

“I do. I can’t imagine losing one of my brothers or my sister in such a way.”

A hint of sympathy passed through his expression, as though he could truly understand her pain.
Since when had her brother-in-law hired anyone with compassion? “You can tell Drew I’ll never stop fighting him, not until he answers for the crimes he’s committed.” Abuse, murder, drug peddler.

Could there be more offenses?

Being more used to facing teenage drama and too many parent meetings than life on the run, Jamie didn’t have all the investigative skills she needed yet to convict Drew. But her time in the education system had taught her to roll with the punches. Hopefully her success rate inside a classroom put the odds in her favor as she attempted to uncover the truth. Nothing would stop her, not even the handsome man in front of her.

“The only person here with a warrant is you.” The man inched closer. He remained calm, confident.

She was not.

Going left or right would wouldn’t work. Too many people to maneuver around. Any one of them might grab her for him.

“So, what are you going to do? Bury me in an unmarked grave somewhere or take me back to Drew so he can kill me himself?” Several more customers stopped what they were doing. Many chose not to look directly at her. “I’m not going with you.”
“You don’t have a choice. You kidnapped your niece.”

Other people watched her and the man, as though enjoying a tennis match, as their conversation continued.

“I didn’t kidnap her. I’m protecting her.” Although Drew spent most of his marriage hitting Erin, he hadn’t hurt Charlotte, according to the little girl. Jamie had made sure to ask. Often.

He shook his head. “The courts don’t agree.”

“The courts are full of obnoxious old men who don’t have a clue what a true villain Drew Timmins is.”

When the man took another step toward her, she backed up. “Please. My niece and I are in danger. Don’t you have a heart?” Make a decision. Which way should she run?

Christa - just back from a trip to find these.
She says that's why she looks tired
but I think she looks fab!

Let's Talk...

Avril: What’s the key differentiator between romantic suspense and Love Inspired Suspense?
Christa: Love Inspired Suspense books are faith-based stories and the level of religion in each book depends on the author. The books focus only on the emotional path of a budding romance instead of the emotional, physical and sexual attraction you find in other romantic suspense stories.

Avril: Where did the idea for Fugitive Pursuit come from?
Christa: I’ve always been interested in bounty hunter books, movies and TV shows. A few years ago, I started reading Love Inspired Suspense books. Soon I started thinking, “What about a family of Christian bounty hunters?” After talking to a couple of writer friends, I began writing Fugitive Pursuit.

Avril: What are your top 5 hero traits?
Christa: My top hero traits are courage, loyalty, confidence, intelligence, and compassion.

Avril: What are your favourite suspense reads – and what makes them stand out for you?
Christa: Any of Laura Griffin’s books but especially Whisper of Warning. I think the thing that makes them stand out for me is the way Laura combines the romance with the level of suspense. She makes it seem effortless.

Avril: I know you’re a keen traveler – how important to you is the setting of a book?
Christa: I believe a setting can add a whole other level to a story. I love reading details that take me right to the places with the characters.

Avril: What’s does the rest of 2018 hold for you?
Christa: I’m working on finishing my 2nd bounty hunter book so I can submit it to my editor this summer and then it’s on to book 3, which I hope to have drafted by the end of the year.

Avril: What’s your pet hate as a romance reader?
Christa: I hate reading about any character, male or female, who makes dumb decisions or choices that make no sense.

  1. My top hero trait would be the hero being honorable because it covers many character traits like being moral, ethical, virtuous, righteous, upright, upstanding, high-minded, honorable, honest, incorruptible. I'd love the opportunity to read one of your books. A giveaway is an awesome way to find a new author to add to my go to authors list.

  2. I like them to be honest and also mannered. I do like the good boys and the bad boys in the book as that is what makes it a good book when you have one of them. Your book sounds so good Thank you for coming to GLIAS! peggy clayton ptclayton2@aol.com
