JANIE: I definitely love Ren’s commitment to taking down the villain. He is determined to capture Damien Friehof, a terrorist mastermind and murderer, who has been plaguing Omega Sector for months. Ren is willing to use any tool available to defeat Freihof, even if it’s a woman who may or may not be innocent.

ANGI:  Favorite thing about Natalie 

JANIE: I love Natalie’s strength. She has survived the most horrendous of pasts and has been completely isolated for the last six years in order to survive. She has no idea of her own strength, but it’s there waiting to come out when she needs it most. 

ANGI:  Favorite thing about IN THE LAWMAN’S PROTECTION  

JANIE: That’s a tough call, because there’s a LOT to love about this story! So much action: train wrecks, wilderness survival, animal attacks, icy rivers… Plus, going up against one of the most brilliant criminals who has ever plagued Omega Sector.

But the romance in this book is also emotionally wrenching. Ren is willing to seduce Natalie to gain whatever information he can about her ex-husband, but he’s expecting her to be a hardened criminal. Instead, he finds she’s a kind and passionate woman who is more of a victim than anyone else. But by the time he realizes his mistake, Ren’s plans to lure Freihof out are already in motion and can’t be undone…

ANGI:  Where is IN THE LAWMAN’S PROTECTION set?

JANIE: One of my most interesting locations ever! Most of the book occurs in the wilderness of western Colorado, after a train wreck. So it’s beautiful mountain wilderness, and I was so excited to develop that part of the story. Other locations include Santa Barbara, CA.

ANGI:  Favorite scene in IN THE LAWMAN’S PROTECTION

JANIE: Here’s a tiny excerpt that I love, from when Natalie realizes Ren has been using her to try to capture her ex-husband.

“I won’t blame you for what happens,” Natalie said. “And you shouldn’t blame yourself.”

“What do you mean?”

“When Damien finds me and takes me…” Her voice cracked. “Whatever it is he ends up doing to me, it’s not your fault.”

Ren’s teeth ground in his jaw. “Not. Going. To. Happen.”

Now she turned completely to him, stepped closer and rested her forehead on his chest.

“You trust your gut. It’s what makes you a good agent. Made you a good solider. Your gut told you this plan was going to work and I was going to help you.”

He kept his arms braced on the wall even though her head was touching his chest. He knew she didn’t want to be pulled to him. “Yes. I trust my gut.”

“I trust my gut too. And my gut says that Damien is going to find me and he’s going to kill me.”
