Lee Kilraine joins Get Lost in a Story to talk about COULD THIS BE LOVE?

I'm thrilled to welcome back Lee Kilraine, a Dreamweaver Golden Heart sister and Bradford Babe (our agency and agent) to the crew!  And even more thrilled that we can help her celebrate her second release in the Cade's Brothers series--COULD THIS BE LOVE?

And don't forget--Commenters will be entered in a drawing to for a chance to win a digital copy of COULD THIS BE LOVE?
DRAWING IS OPEN THROUGH SATURDAY!

MEET LEE KILRAINE
Lee Kilraine is a 2014 Golden Heart® Finalist for her debut contemporary romance, BRINGING DELANEY HOME, the first book in her Cates Brothers Series. She lives with her family in the pine woods of North Carolina. When she isn't typing away on her computer with her golden retriever, Harley, destroying something at her feet, you might find her on her front porch swing plotting her next book while guarding her garden from the local gang of deer. She loves reading and writing stories with a HEA and if they make her laugh...well, that's perfect.
Nan:  Thanks for coming back to visit, Lee!

Let's talk about COULD THIS BE LOVE? Book 2 in the Cade Brother's Series. (I just finished it this weekend and loved it!)

THE STORY BLURB
Everyone in Climax, North Carolina, knows the Cates brothers. But Sijan Cates is famous far beyond his quaint hometown--and when he comes back, he brings trouble with him…

Avery Danford urgently needs to get back in touch with her estranged family. If only she could get her picture in the papers, maybe they'd track her down…and what better way to accomplish that than to squeeze into the world's tightest dress and cozy up to the world's hottest actor, Sijan Cates? It's a crazy idea, but it just might work. And though the former actress has sworn off Hollywood hunks, she's got to admit this desperate measure might be a pleasure…

Scandal-plagued Sijan has come home for some peace and quiet--and to stay out of the tabloids. Then a woman claiming to be his number-one fan plants a hot kiss on him--in front of a pack of paparazzi. There's only one way to protect his reputation: tell the world they're engaged. It's all just a show, as they use each other to get what they need. But in this sleepy Southern town, love stories have a way of coming true…

Nan:  I have fallen in love with the Cade brothers and Sijan---sigh--he's so, so delicious. Thank you for giving us a series with five delectable brothers!

READ A LITTLE, BUY THE BOOK
Avery had to admit, from the moment she saw him in the flesh: Sijan Cates was one very hot man. And having spent a few years acting in Hollywood, she’d been up close to some very fine male specimens. She was surprised to admit she couldn’t pull her gaze away from his tall, muscled body, strong jaw, and bad-boy smile, complete with slashing dimples. Something in his smile swirled heat low in her belly. Her breath snagged when his silver gray eyes flashed over the crowd.

She ripped her gaze away to the almost carbon copy standing next to him. That had to be his brother, although his eyes were a different color. She’d never seen anyone actually look dangerous. Until Carbon Copy. Together, these men gave off enough pheromones and testosterone to alter the DNA of everyone around them.

And looking around, there were plenty of women anxious to let them alter anything they wanted to. Cripes, she had forgotten what this was like.

“Not used to seeing it from the other side, are you?” Pia said. “Exciting, huh?”

“That’s one word for it. So, just to be clear, I’m in love with the guy on the right, yes? Not the edgy one?”

“Yes. The edgy one is one of his four brothers,” Pia said. “Not the cop. You talked to him when we were scoping the town out yesterday. I’m not sure which one, but I’ll happily research that if you need me to. I mean a ‘true’ fan would probably know, right?”

“Pia, one photo, that’s all I need. We don’t need to turn this into a method acting session. It’s bad enough you made me put on these clothes. Has anyone ever told you you’d make a very good pimp?” Avery said without taking her focus off Sijan Cates. She was looking for her best entrance, kind of like finding the best place to jump into a double-dutch jump rope game.

“Hey, you needed to look like a true groupie. And the extra cleavage is to help you get the photographer’s attention, so stop complaining.” Pia looked Avery over. “People always underestimate what we wardrobe people can do. Not everyone can pull off a Marilyn Monroe–meets–Daisy Duke look. You’ve got a very nice ‘I’m hot and willing to put out’ vibe going on.”

“Yeah, I probably just single-handedly set the feminist movement back ten years.” In Hollywood, beauty was a commodity. Avery treated hers like a weapon in her arsenal that she usually just ignored. Today, though, she used it to her tactical advantage.

“They’re walking this way. I’ve got my Sharpie and—darn, I forgot something for his autograph. Quick, peek through my purse and grab out a piece of paper.” Avery stayed cool and focused while Sijan worked his way down the line of screaming female fans, signing autographs and avoiding hands like a pro.

“Here.” Pia shoved a paper in her hand.

Avery glanced down, checking both sides of the paper. “Ack! No, that’s the annual company expense report for our accountant. Never mind, I’m up.”

While she might agree with Pia that this could end up in a train wreck, Avery still had to try. Matching wits and acting skills with movie star Sijan Cates? Dangerous. Watching Tansy waste away before her eyes? Heartbreaking. She’d take danger over heartbreak any day.

A LIGHTING ROUND OF Q&A WITH LEE KILRAINE

NAN: How often do you get lost in a story?
LEE:  Every night. I have to read before falling asleep. TV shows? Not so much. It’s not that I don’t like TV—it’s that I lose track of the day of the week and end up missing so many shows that I’ve lost the overall plot line a few weeks into the new season.  Please tell me I’m not the only one who does this. I’m blaming my kids. When our kids were younger, I used their schedules to keep track, like oh, lacrosse practice means it’s Monday so, hey, How I Met Your Mother is on. But, no, they went and grew up, so now, no more kid activities means I’m always forgetting to tune in. Thank goodness for movies!
Nan: Too funny! I lose track of the days of the week--but I also keep up with On Demand!

NAN: What’s your favorite “love” word?
LEE:  Oh, I have a favorite “love” sentence: “I’ll cook tonight.” ;) Every time my husband says that and takes over in the kitchen—he makes my heart go pitter-patter.
Nan: Oh you are so, so right!

NAN: Who’s your favorite villain?
LEE:  A favorite villain I secretly love…Alan Rickman aka Hans Gruber in Die Hard, but a villain I actually dislike with a passion? Lord Voldemort, the stepmother in Cinderella, or the 7 fingered man in The Princess Bride. Oh! If you’ve ever watched the TV miniseries Band of Brothers…Captain Sobel. Grrrr. I hate that guy.
Nan: Alan Rickman was an incredible actor!

NAN: Is there a “Blooper” in your story (it may have been changed before printing)?
LEE:  Well, I have an emotional scene where the hero has accused my heroine of doing something pretty horrible and she’s also found out that the foster family she thought loved her—has either lied, manipulated or ignored her for the past few years and she’s talking it out with her best friend—pacing and talking—and it turns out-- I forgot to put clothes on her. She was pacing around, upset, talking and trying to handle all this—buck naked. Yikes! I mean, I meant for it to be a revealing scene—but not that kind of revealing! ;)
Nan: I didn't even notice! (In the hotel?)

NAN: What’s the first thing you do when you finish writing a book?
LEE:  Shower. Is that too much information? Yikes! It’s just that when you’re writing to deadline sometimes it feels a lot like pulling an all-nighter before a final or a research paper is due. I mean, pfft, not that I ever did that, I’m just guessing that’s what it might feel like. But also, I love being able to read from my TBR pile in between writing books.
Nan: Yes, but in my case a long bath with an adult beverage!

NAN: What has been your most rewarding publishing moment?
LEE:  When I saw my 1st book available in libraries. I was one of those shy, nerdy kids who thought the library was (and is) a special, magical place so that was very special for me. I might have teared up a little.
Nan: Libraries are magical.

NAN: What is your hero’s kryptonite? In other words, what will bring him instantly to his knees?
LEE:  Sijan is gutted thinking about the heroine’s lonely childhood. That and pie. He has a weakness for banana cream pie. But who doesn’t, right?
Nan: Pie--you bet.

NAN'S GOT TO ASK: You’re stranded on a desert island. You can have either chocolate or coffee—not both. Which one?
LEE'S GOT TO ANSWER: Coffee. Although, I’m not gonna lie, it hurt a bit to make that imaginary choice.
Nan: Truly not fair--right?

CRAZY LOVE Book #3 in the Cates Brothers Series

Nan: I can't wait! Thanks for spending the day with Get Lost in a Story--Lee!

LEE KILRAINE WANTS TO KNOW:   One of places my characters hang out in the Cates Brothers Series is the local diner, Dave’s. So, of course, people are ordering food—often a slice of pie but sometimes cake. I do love cake with just the right amount of icing, but pie reminds me of my childhood. Oh, those tough life decisions. If I had to choose…I think I’d go with a piece of strawberry pie. So what I want to know is…pie or cake?  And then let’s hear your favorite.

Get Lost with Lee Kilraine and Bringing Delaney Home

I'm thrilled to welcome Lee Kilraine, a Golden Heart sister (Dreamweaver) and Bradford Babe (our agency and agent) to the crew!  And even more thrilled that we can help her celebrate her debut BRINGING DELANEY HOME.

And don't forget--Commenters will be entered in a drawing to for a chance to win a digital copy of BRINGING DELANEY HOME.

MEET LEE KILRAINE
After moving around the country with her AF pilot husband and four children, Lee and her family finally put down roots in the pine woods of North Carolina. She’s a graduate of University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a 2014 Golden Heart® Finalist. She loves hanging out with her family, her dog Harley, watching just about any sport, Gene Kelly musicals, Marvel movies, and anything with bacon or salted caramel- although not salted caramel bacon. Lee’s least favorite part of the day is figuring out what to cook for dinner. Cooking dinner takes a close second, although a glass of wine helps.

Nan:  I loved Gene Kelly!  We are soul sisters!

I really want to more about your debut BRINGING DELANEY HOME Book 1 in the Cade Brother's Series.

THE STORY BLURB

In the sleepy town of Climax, North Carolina, all five Cates brothers are known for being tall, dark, and delicious. But each has his own incomparable love story...Quinn Cates has known Delaney Lyons forever. But after years away from home, Delaney's a changed woman. A mysterious accident she refuses to talk about has left her hurting--in body and soul--and acting out in dangerous, and occasionally entertaining, ways.

Quinn's on the local police force, so he's used to dealing with troublemakers. This one's pretty incorrigible--but he suspects her flippant exterior is hiding something softer and deeper inside. Every time he has to rescue Delaney from herself, his heart and his hormones both go into overdrive. But he owes it to Delaney's sister to keep an eye on her. He's got some experience with that after spending so much time at it back in high school...

Delaney just wants to fend off the gossips, fight off the pain of her past, and make her escape once again. But Officer Cates is ordering her not to leave town, and his interrogation techniques can be very persuasive...

Nan:  Sounds delicious and there are five tall, dark and handsome brothers?  Can't wait.

READ A LITTLE, BUY THE BOOK

“You can’t deny the chemistry between us.”
Hell yes, she could. After the last nine months she qualified for a black belt in denial.
“How’s this sound? I’ll reel you in with my constant presence and charisma. I’ll charm those sweatpants right off you.”
“It sounds like you’re going to be a big pain in the ass.”
Such a delicious torture when his strong chest and wide shoulders moved even closer, surrounding her. His heat, a sinful temptation against her back. The hard muscles of his thighs like cut granite pressed against hers. Everything about him warm and firm, besieging her body to yield while he rocked her already unstable world.
“Don’t you feel it too?” Quinn’s warm hands cupped her shoulders, and he spun Delaney around in his arms, pulling her in tight against his sinewy body. He lifted her face up to his with one hand while the other stroked through her hair to cup the back of her head.
Standing wrapped in his strong arms, with his whiskey-dark voice whispering temptations she knew she couldn’t afford to want, felt so darn good. She took a breath and tried to capture this moment in her mind. She filed it away to pull out and savor like a guilty pleasure she hadn’t earned and didn’t deserve.
“Feel what?” Yep, she was the Bruce Lee of denial.
“This.” He kissed her. His firm lips and stroking tongue stole her every thought from her head. Her head must have exchanged oxygen for helium because it was about to float up into the clouds far, far above her.
He ended the kiss abruptly, pulling back a step, his breath uneven as it struggled in and out of his lungs. Just like hers.
She stiffened her spine and drew herself away and inward, a solitary island with a sole survivor.
“Fair warning, I aim to wear you down like the water shaped those rocks down below. I’ll keep flowing around you, smoothing out the sharp angles, and wear away your resistance. Now, no more fishing off the bridge, because I have a fantasy with you and a pair of handcuffs, but it’s not that.”
His gaze raked over her, leaving a trail of goose bumps and a serious case of oxygen deprivation. Then he walked to his police car and drove away as if he hadn’t just knocked a fissure in her well-constructed wall of defense. How did he do that? Quinn might think she was trouble, but she knew he was a sure heartache.
She couldn’t afford to open her heart to his words. She’d been broken for many years, but avoiding expectations and commitments kept some of the pain at bay. He was going to drive her crazy with his plan, but she had a plan too. She just had to stick to it, because her plan to get back to D.C. as fast as possible might just be the only way to save her sanity.

A LIGHTING ROUND OF Q&A WITH LEE KILRAINE

NAN: How often to you get lost in a story?
LEE:  Every night. I have to read in bed before falling asleep. Sadly, though it’s usually only for ten to twenty minutes before I conk out which means I’m going through my TBR pile with the speed of a three-toed sloth.

NAN:  What’s the first book you remember reading?
LEE:  The Trumpet of the Swan by E.B.White. Romance? The Flame and the Flower. I was a very naĆÆve teenager- the Cindy Lou Who of teenagers-when I read it and remember being appalled at a certain scene and saying to an older sister, “Ew, Mom and Dad did that seven times?” Guess how many siblings I have. ;)

Nan:  Too funny.

NAN:   Can you tell us about a real-life hero you’ve met?
LEE:  I was volunteering at a military hospital in San Antonio. I met a young soldier who’d had both hands blown off over in Iraq. He’d been through many surgeries already and was working his way through therapy, prosthesis fittings and occupational therapy. He had a long painful recovery ahead of him. But he already had plans for when he left the hospital. Once he got his prosthetic hands, he wanted to learn to fly helicopters. Even now, I can still see his excitement, the light in his eyes, the energy in his body as he laid out his goal. The way he rocked up on the balls of his feet while he talked—like he was ready to get on with flying already. His resilience blew me away. He wasn’t the only true-life hero there by any means, but the day I met him was the day I knew I had to write this story.

Nan:  Amazing.

NAN:   Is there a playlist you’d recommend for reading your latest release?
LEE:  Originally I had my heroine and her sister have this thing with Stevie Wonder songs, and then someone (who shall remain nameless) said in the nicest way possible--maybe nix the Stevie Wonder songs. I was like…Why? Who doesn’t like Stevie?! But I get it. She was right. So, yes there are Stevie Wonder songs for each of the plot points of the book but the two songs that sum it up… Quinn’s song for Delaney since high school has been “Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours.” By the end of the book Delaney’s song for Quinn is “For Once in My Life.”

Nan: Ahhhh, nice.

NAN:   What sound or noise do you love?
LEE:    Laughter.

Nan: Lovely.

NAN:   What one thing about your hero drives his heroine crazy?
LEE:    That Quinn won’t give up on her. And every time she turns around he’s there, challenging her to try again. Or making her hot.

NAN:   And what one thing about your heroine drives her hero nuts?
LEE:    He’s not too happy that she’s too stubborn to accept help and keeps trying to go it alone. But other than that-- nothing. Delaney has been “it” for Quinn since high school and even her cranky cranks his tractor.

NAN'S GOTTA ASK:   Benedict Cumberbatch or Chris Pine?
LEE'S GOTTA ANSWER:   As much as I enjoy Sherlock, it’s Chris Pine. All. The. Way.

Nan: I agree!
