ON SHELVES TODAY

The fate of the city rests in their hands.

When FBI operative Therese Ortis and Texas Ranger Wade Hamilton agree to team up, they have one goal in mind: find and stop an algorithm that could destroy Dallas—or worse. But going undercover in order to bring down a criminal organization comes with its own form of danger. If discovered, they’re bound to be torn apart. Then not only will their beloved city pay the price, but Therese and Wade will suffer unforeseen—and unimaginable—consequences.

Inspiration for Wade
WADE IS HERE
Wade is my matchmaking Texas Ranger. The fourth book in my Company B series is hitting shelves next month. If you’ve read the first three in the series, you know that the hero of CRIMINAL ALLIANCE thinks of himself as a bit of a matchmaker for his buddies.

Inspiration for Therese

BUT IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT WADE
Therese Ortis has been very illusive over the first three Company B stories. She pops in and out of Wade’s life, getting him in and then out of trouble. She risked everything to save his life in Ranger Protector. And it wasn’t until Criminal Alliance that I discovered what favor Wade actually owed her – the one that began the entire series.

EXCERPT (read a little more)

“How can a little research and a few interviews get you in trouble?” Wade Hamilton asked. “Besides, I’ve done all the hard work.”

Slate Thompson wasn’t on as thin ice as his fellow Texas Ranger. But the entire team knew that one wrong step would shake up Company B—and not in a good way. Wade's hunches about cases were putting more than one of them in the hot seat. So Slate had a right to be wary.

“Then do it yourself,” Slate countered.

“You know I’m out of a job if I break ranks again. Come on, you can do this in your sleep, Slate. You’re one of the best investigators I know.”

“That’s beside the point, and if you’re attempting to schmooze someone, stating that they are the best is better. Especially if it’s the truth.”

“You read the journal about Subject Nineteen?”

“You stood over my shoulder while I did.” Slate stretched backward in his wheeled chair, balancing himself with a booted toe under his desk. He tossed a ball of rubber bands over to Wade. “Moron.”

“Just verifying you can read.”

Slate popped forward, clicking off the screen as Major Clements walked through the office. Recently, he managed to stop by and check on Wade’s progress through the “punishment” boxes—files that were either a last check on cases coming up for trial or completely cold.

“How you doing, Wade? Slate, you aren’t busy? Need something to help that along?”

“No, sir. I’m about to head out the door. I…uh…have a lunch date, sir.”

Major Clements clapped Wade on the shoulder, then tapped the multiple file folders at the corner of the desk. “Power through, son. We’re a little shorthanded out there.” Then he continued to his office.
Clements was about fifteen or maybe even twenty years older than either Wade or Slate. But he looked ancient, like a cowboy that had spent one too many years in the saddle. He walked straight, but his belly hung over his belt buckle, a serious silver piece of artwork with the Texas Ranger emblem over the Texas flag. He was one of the few men, in Wade’s humble opinion, who wore the uniform’s white hat exceptionally well. Like it fit.

Slate, on the other hand, always felt better wearing a ball cap.

“You going to look at that case for me?” Wade whispered. “Victor Watts confessed so it looks like a slam dunk. But my gut’s telling me that something’s not right. I’d do it myself but…”

Slate waved for him to pass over the file. “You’re damn lucky I’m not reporting you to the old man.”

“Now why would you do that, Slate? We get along so well. If I was gone, you’d have to break in another ranger and you know how fun that is.” Wade locked his fingers behind his neck and leaned back in his chair.

The bruising had faded, but he was still squinting through a severely beaten eye. The man had spent days in the hospital and come back to work with a cloud hanging around him so thick, everyone was pretending they couldn’t see him.

Everyone except Wade’s partner Jack MacKinnon, Heath Murray and himself. They were a team. They’d come into Company B at the same time and had a special bond. Didn’t seem like anything could break it.

Even Wade being assigned the punishment boxes.

Most of the reasons Wade had been desked weren’t public knowledge. Jack knew more than anyone in the Company and he wasn’t talking. But over beers, both Jack and Wade has considered themselves very lucky to have a job.

Jack’s temporary assignment to help the Dallas PD hadn’t gone without speculation. It also coincided with his new roommate—of the feminine persuasion. Heath, Wade and himself included hadn’t spent any serious time with the lady…Megan Harper.

Yet.

Everyone in Company B had seen the results of “the Harper case” as it was referenced. However, Wade and Jack had gotten involved, it was Wade’s fault for playing a hunch. His saving grace was that whatever he’d done had saved Megan Harper’s life and captured a man whose mental health was still waiting to be evaluated.

Saying yes to one of Wade’s hunches was usually easy. Hell, this particular ranger had a long line of successful hunches that had played out with many a bad man behind bars. Slate opened the file. He had to admit that he wanted to help.

“You’d be on your own most of the time, buddy,” Wade said from the next desk. “Of course, if I’m wrong, then there’s nothing to do anyway.”

Slate nodded, contemplating. Breaking the rules really wasn’t his thing. Then again, he’d wanted to be in law enforcement to help people…not knowingly send an innocent man to jail.

Yeah, there was a chance that Wade was wrong. But when the man went with his gut, he just rarely was.

More from Protector Jack...

an excerpt from
RANGER PROTECTOR

“Here,” Jack stepped around her, “let me go first. Those cypress trees are sturdy, but rough on your hands.”
“Are your boots slick on this loose rock?”
“Everything’s slick when the rocks are rolling under your feet. Don’t worry. I got you.” He dug his heels into the ground and followed his lead.
One almost slip and both her hands were quickly on his shoulders. She left one and a second later had both touching him again. He tapped her hands to keep them there.
It took about five harrowing minutes, but they found a way to the rock embankment. With both his feet on rocky ground, he turned to help her with the last one foot drop. Hands at her waist, her hands on his shoulders, he lifted and they stood there…waiting.
Did he feel the anticipation spark as her lips passed his? It sure felt like he did. His heart was beating just a little faster when her palms slide down his chest. Yeah, she couldn’t help herself.
There was an attraction. She could fight it and say they shouldn’t move forward because of the obvious reasons. Or she could ignore the professional side of her brain and admit there was a connection. A connection that was getting stronger with each look and definitely each touch.
He dropped his hands like she was on fire giving her even more of a reason to believe he was thinking the same thoughts.
“West takes us Red Hawke Road. There are five or six houses that may or may not be occupied. Some are right on the creek, others aren’t.”
“And to the east?” She splashed into the cold water and faced that direction.
“I believe that’s our best option to lose men chasing us. There aren’t too many homes before it turns into the Halifax Ranch. Lots of acreage once we get there. Old Indian caves, bluffs, the Blanco River. There’s a small dam and road that might throw them off, too.”
“You already made up your mind which way we’re going.”
“Pretty much.”
“Thanks for being considerate about it though.”
Jack made her feel included. She had no idea if it was deliberate in order to confuse her or if he was genuine. Scratch that. He was the genuine article. There was no talking herself out of that impression.
Under the bluff, darkness was steadily moving in. She stepped into the middle of the shallow creek, careful not to slip and drench herself, but there was nothing to see. No lights from nearby houses. No light pollution from a nearby town.
They really were in the middle of nowhere.
A good place to analyze and organize.
“You’re shivering. Ready to go up? There are some electric blankets or I could start a fire.”
“Dinner in front of the fire? Will there be a movie, too?”
“Only if you like a DVD they have. I didn’t pay much attention to those when I was here before.”
They started back up the incline. Jack led the way, holding her hand, steadying her when the rubber boots slipped. Back next to the deck, he stepped up, then lifted her with both hands.
There it was again.
A spark. A moment of anticipation.
If they’d been on a date, she would have stood on her tiptoes until he kissed her. She might have even leaned in and kissed him first. But they weren’t on a date. They were hiding out in the Texas Hill Country. And while she debated with herself about what to do, he let her go and practically ran the length of the porch.
“I’ll grab the food,” he shot over his shoulder.
There might be a million and one questions about who was after her and why. But one thing was abundantly clear. Ranger Jack MacKinnon was an honest man and dangerously attractive. She already respected him and trusted his judgement.
Getting involved would be easy. So how distracting would it be trying not to?

Through My Lens: Dalhart

I am super excited.

Two cool things are happening soon. I have a road trip in New England and...

My birthday is coming up!

I'm super hyped about spending time in Philadelphia and then driving through New England during the fall colors. It's one of the things I've had on my "to do" list since...well, forever. Expect lots and lots of pictures from me later.

And to celebrate my birthday I'm having an event for my readers. Anybody can join...but there's the catch, you have to want to join a facebook group. Angi's Friends is a closed group for those who want special updates and extras about my releases. It's not a street team...just a place where I'll share wants going on with stories and special giveaways. I'll also be inviting friends when they have a new release to share. It should be a fun group.

I'm kicking off the group with a special giveaway of a Sterling Silver necklace worth $50.00.

How do you join? Send me a Facebook message or look for the group (Angi's Friends) and send a request.

Here are so pictures from my May road trip to DALHART, Texas. Dalhart and the surrounding area is the location of SHOTGUN JUSTICE releasing in March. It's book 2 of my TEXAS RANGERS: ELITE TROOP series for Harlequin Intrigue.

DUTY, DESIRE AND WHERE TO DRAW THE LINE
As a Texas Ranger, it was Jesse Ryder's duty to protect her. As a man, it was all he could do to avoid the temptation of Avery Travis. The Snake Eyes Killer was on Avery's trail, but the independent deputy didn't want Jesse's help. And he couldn't blame her; he had walked away from her the night she'd offered him everything.
Avery knew Jesse would always think of her as his best friend's little sister. However, she was fully capable of taking care of herself…and knowing what and who she wanted. Their lives might be in jeopardy, but the true tragedy would be to never have one more chance with the sexy Ranger.

PROTECTING THEIR CHILD

The Davis Mountains became a character in Protecting Their Child. The landscape presented as many obstacles to Kate & Cord as the men chasing them. I'm always inspired by visiting the story location and hope to write more books based in West Texas.

I get introduced to my daughter's friends and one of the first things she tells them now is to be careful about what they say...they may just end up in a book. And ironically, from all the people I know and have worked with that knew I was a writer, her friends are the only ones that have asked to have characters named after them.

I did. Can't wait to see if their stories sell and I return next year to the Davis Mountains and Valentine, Texas.
