BLOODLINES AND LIES
Bloodline Series,  Book #5

Ad executive Riley Power’s fiancé, Levi Madison, and his Native American horse trainer, Calvin Coldwater, prepare Cheyenne Powers for triple-crown racing. An old flame returns to Sweetwater, and the stunning redheaded chef wants Riley’s man. Instead of focusing wedding plans, Riley’s concerned with her dad’s prognosis of Black Lung Disease.

Her house is broken into, and her next door neighbor is murdered. Police search for the drug ring involved. Riley and her friends, Lemon Sage Benton and FBI Special Agent Reggie Casse, follow another line of investigation. Danger follows them home.

Levi held hands with a stunning redhead sitting across from him at their window table. A charming smile graced his face engaging dimples making him appear a feisty youngster instead of a seasoned gentleman. The woman acted as though she was in his trance. Their eyes locked, and her brilliant smile was intent on him. One of them must’ve uttered something funny causing easy laughter.

Standing, Levi brought the gal to her feet and slipped an arm around her bare shoulders. Her shift was cut straight across from shoulder to shoulder, so his hand inevitably contacted skin intimately. She eased into his embrace like it was the greatest natural act in the world.

Riley’s stomach soured. She burped gas coughing, catching a breath. As they moved out of sight further inside Sadie’s restaurant toward her register paying the bill. Releasing a huge puff of loud air, her body heaved forward. Her head hit the wheel. Resting a second it dawned, they were soon exiting. She mustn’t be seen gaping at them in shock.

Gunning the engine, she shoved her vehicle into action whipping from the curb toward the expressway. Checking traffic, she sped along the main drag out of town. She should be far from this spot when they waltzed out.

Had Levi been deceiving her all this time? Or did he recently found a new love interest? Riley traveled a great deal and spent considerable time with her parents due to Earl’s condition. She’d considered herself secure, believing Levi was aligned on both accounts. He encouraged her staying as long as she needed. Did he eagerly rush her away, freely pursuing a flaming, red-haired siren?

Is he cheating?

Driving was difficult with tears swarming her eyes. It was as though a hefty saddle dropped onto her chest. A cinch was tightened so strongly she barely drew breath. Her head swam, and she grasped. Grabbing her steering wheel hoping for balance, even a long, deep cleansing breath did nothing to comfort.

THE Q&A
ANGI: How often to you get lost in a story?
LYNDA: Every day—either one I’m writing, editing or one someone else wrote that I’m reading. I love a great story, and when I’m lost in it I don’t hear what’s going on around me.

ANGI: What’s your favorite thing about your book’s hero?
LYNDA: Levi Madison is a powerful, wealthy guy but a down-to-earth fellow with insecurities, like anyone else. He loves getting his cowboy boots dirty scent of horseflesh, working hand in hand with his men. His woman is his first priority. He’s attentive and loving, but when she’s in danger he’s a fierce warrior protecting her.

ANGI: What’s your perfect day?
LYNDA: My husband makes coffee. We drink it out back in the shade. I go for a swim in the lake. Then the kids and grandkids come for lunch. We spend the afternoon chatting and playing with the kids. Cocktails before dinner with the neighbors at our favorite party spot on the farm then Mike grills something delicious for dinner and we eat out back watching the deer cross through the farm and our wacky donkey Marty play with my horse Buck.

ANGI: Would you put yourself in a Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
LYNDA: I love action and adventure, something that makes my heart race, engages my curiosity and warms my heart.

ANGI: Favorite TV rerun you watch every time you channel surf?
LYNDA: I’m a big fan of MASH, Psych, Monk and Leverage.

ANGI: Favorite date night…fancy or at home?
LYNDA: We love taking a cooler of beer or wine, a couple pistols or twenty-two rifles, a bag of peanuts and hotdogs, jumping in the Gator touring the farm and parking by the creek. We build a fire, roast hotdogs, snack and target shoot. Our favorite game is tossing walnuts in the creek and shooting them as they drift down stream. Then we relax by the bonfire watching the stars. Guess you can tell I’m a country girl.

ANGI: Champagne or Soda?
LYNDA: I don’t do soda—too much sugar. Definitely champagne.

ANGI: Geek or Jock?
LYNDA: I’m a bit of both. Always the geek, I’ve played sports, was a cheerleader, am nuts for water sports of all kinds, and love getting lost in the woods on horseback.

ANGI: The most daring thing you’ve ever done… Care to share?
LYNDA: Pink Jeep Tour in Sedona, AZ straight up boulders and rock formations I never figured anyone could climb. It’s thrilling and terrifying at the same time.

ANGI’s GOTTA ASK:  Where is your favorite writing space & why?
LYNDA’S GOTTA ANSWER:  My office because everything I need is within reach, and when I’ve been working, lost in a story for too long, my husband sneaks into the room and puts a cocktail or beer beside my mouse, reminding me of the time. Otherwise, I’d probably sit here 24-7.

Lizbeth Selvig - Character Interview with Grace and Ty from Betting on Paradise

Hi again GLIAS Friends!
Thanks for joining me today to celebrate Release Day #2 for Betting on Paradise.  I was excited to write this story because I’ve been in love with the three Crockett triplets from the beginning of the series. Grace, Kelly, and Raquel were named for their father’s two favorite movie stars, Grace Kelly and Raquel Welch. Since true identical triplets are literally one-in-a-million rarities, I’ve been fascinated with these three and couldn’t wait to explore their differences in light of how close they are. Since they’ve lived and worked in Denver, far from Paradise Ranch, they weren’t featured predominantly in the first three “Seven Brides for Seven Cowboys” books. The chance to get to know them is the best fun for me!

Grace is the first of the triplets to separate herself from the others. She’s underappreciated in her role as part owner of the sisters’ successful Denver restaurant, and she wants to try out some ideas that Kelly and Raquel have voted down. She’s also different from the other two because she has a reputation as “the good girl.” So, who does Grace fall for? A man who’s definitely had his stint as “the bad boy.”

Only, by the time the story starts, Ty has turned over a new leaf—because of his daughter, Teagan aka Lucky. She was unceremoniously dumped in Ty’s life by a women he’d dated and broken up with three years earlier. Although her mother disappeared, Lucky has literally changed her dad’s life. The only “bad” thing Ty is doing nowadays is taking advantage of his new position at Paradise Ranch. He feels guilty about lying to the family – he has plans to try and take away some of their land, for the most legitimate of reasons, he believes—but he has no intention of getting close to the people. And he plans to tell them as soon as he can.

Long story short:  he fell in love. And that messed up everything.

I could go on and on about Grace and Ty’s love affair—but, then, that’s what the book is for. Instead, I thought you’d get a kick out of an interview with Grace and Ty—conducted after the end of the book. So I picked out a handful of GLIAS questions and posed them to our heroes. For your enjoyment—welcome Grace Crockett and Ty Garraway!

LIZ: Welcome you two! You can take turns answering the questions you like. Let’s start with Grace. What was your favorite book as a child?
GRACE: My Friend Flicka and The Black Stallion. I think both of those books made me look at the wild mustangs we see once in a while on Paradise Ranch in a really romanticized way. I always wanted to have my own wild horse to tame, even though we had plenty of broke horses to choose from. Since then, my sisters and I have trained many mustangs—and it’s always a thrill.

LIZ: What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
TY: I can’t seem to help that I still enjoy a small stakes poker game with friends. I’ve never gotten stressed out by gambling and I’ve managed to stay away from any kind of game where I could lose my shirt. But more than that I love spending time with my daughter, Lucky. She was such a surprise, coming into my life the way she did (her mother just dropped her off and disappeared) but she’s the reason for every decision I make. Of course, there’s spending time with Grace—that, I figured just went without saying..

LIZ: If your house was on fire and you only had time to save three objects, what would you save?
GRACE:  1. Assuming all the people were safe—my computer—it has all my business  plans on it; 2. my grandmother’s old recipe file box—it contains all the special recipes I want to include on my new restaurant menu; 3. a painting my sister Harper made of the old family cottage we turned into our restaurant—it’s a one-of-a-kind that gave me my inspiration for this whole endeavor.
TY: 1. Lucky’s dog Rupert—don’t tell her, but after all the complaints I made about having a dog, I’ve fallen for the crazy mutt; 2. my great-grandmother’s journal—Grace and her sisters found it and it proves to me that the way I treat my family is far more important than what I give them; 3. Lucky’s three-year-old portrait—the first one I had taken of her after she came into my life.

LIZ: You’ve been granted one superpower for one week. Which power would you choose, and what would you do with it?
TY:  I would choose Superman’s ability to fly so fast he turned back time. There are a lot of things I’d like to go back and change in my family history. I’d maybe slap my great-grandfather upside the head for the kind of life he led back in 1910 and the way he treated my great-grandmother. I’d also change things so I could have known Lucky from the time she was born rather than the time she was three.

LIZ: Grace, can you write us a haiku about Ty!
GRACE (laughing): I’m kind of a dorky girl so, yeah I’ll try one:
Ty loves his daughter
He’ll risk all for those he loves.
I’m the lucky one.
LIZ: Ty? How about you?
TY: Oh, heck no. I don’t do poetry. Flowers is the best I can do. I will say, though, that if I ever did write a verse or rhyme it would be because Grace inspired it. She can give me the power to do and believe anything.

LIZ: Time for a mini blitz!
Ty:
a)Favorite color? Green
c) Movie? – The Magnificent Seven
d) Summer or winter? Summer
e) Morning or night? Morning –I have a daughter who’s a morning kid, so I have no choice.
f) Rain or shine? Rain
g) Sweet or salty? Sweet – I’m a sucker for anything with ice cream or frosting.

Grace:
a)Favorite color? Lavender
c) Movie? – Love Actually
d) Summer or winter? Summer
e) Morning or night? Night—Ty and I are rarely in agreement about this, lol.
f) Rain or shine? Rain – Ty and I are always in agreement about this!
g) Sweet or salty? Sweet – Chocolate chip cookies are my downfall.

LIZ: What’s on your bucket list for this year?
TY and GRACE: To get the new restaurant up and running. To take Lucky to DisneyWorld.

QUESTION FOR YOU:

Going Out on a Limb -- THE BOOK!

****WINNER**** of today's giveaway prizes is LYNN B.  Lynn, please comment one more time with your e-mail address and I'll get you your SF swag!

Today I’m excited to talk about the actual story of “Going Out on a Limb.” When Erin Nicholas approached me to ask if I’d participate in the launch of her Kindle Worlds collection, I was honored and excited. I would get to take a character from one of my novels and put him or her right into the heart of Sapphire Falls during the annual summer festival that’s so familiar to readers of that series.

I knew the middle book in my series “Seven Brides for Seven Cowboys” would be a perfect place to find a hero. The story of “The Bride Wore Red Boots” revolves around what to do with eight veterans who were living in a group situation while they healed
from injuries received during their tours in the Middle East. One of my favorite minor characters was Jason Brewster, one of the group’s king practical jokers.

But I knew Jason—Jace—was not really the snarky joker he pretended to be in Red Boots. All he needed was something to take the place of what he’d lost due to traumatic brain injury. And so “Going Out on a Limb” came to be.

Although he was once a skilled airplane mechanic, now some of his forgetfulness issues make that occupation impossible for him to perform. Jace gets set up with a local carpenter in Sapphire Falls and arrives, ready to intern for the summer. He’s also still been counseled to continue with therapy—so he continues to heal.  The therapist who’s been chosen for him is a very beautiful young psychiatrist named Miri Reynolds. Unfortunately, Jace never makes it to her office before he meets her at the summer festival. The flying sparks are anything but appropriate for a doctor/patient relationship.

There are horses, familiar Sapphire Falls names, missing kids, and misunderstandings in this story. There’s also Sapphire Falls itself—a place where people tend to fall in love fast and forever. Although there’s a lot more to the story than falling in love, there’s nothing that’s more important! And during the festival, the very first place that casts a spell on lovers is the Ferris Wheel.

Read an excerpt from Jace and Miri’s first ride:
The Ferris wheel car climbed to the top of its circle and flowed over the front, sending Jace’s stomach into the weightless thrill all carnival ride passengers sought. Not that he needed more thrills with Miri pressed beside him, squeezing his wrist in mild anxiety. She was beautiful when she laughed, and she sent his insides into plenty of acrobatics all on her own. The dusk was beautiful, too, with lights glowing all around the town square and Frank Sinatra’s voice floating through the night. “Come Fly With Me.”
“I guess this song’s appropriate,” he said as the words wafted from the speakers in the trees next to the wheel.
“It’s another thing,” Miri said. “Frank Sinatra is almost the voice of Sapphire Falls—you can always hear him in the square.”
“What? No Stephen Tyler or Axl Rose?” He slipped an arm around her shoulders, snuggling her a little closer.
She gave a genuine snort. “Bite your tongue. This is Brad Paisley and Dierks Bentley country. Even Frank stretches it a little.”
She smelled deliciously of apples and berries. Conversation flew away with Sinatra as they coasted over the top again, and Miri laid her head on his shoulder.
“I actually feel safe on a ride with you,” she said. “Unlike with my niece who rocks the car like a maniac.”
“A little afraid of rides are we?”
There was something very sexy about a psychiatrist who had her own set of fears. She made him feel . . . normal.
“Only a very little.”
He shrugged to make her lift her head and, with fingers on her chin, turned her face toward him. Sweet sugar met his lips when he covered her mouth with his. Her tongue, hot and willing, collided unhesitatingly with his, and moments later he discovered how highly talented she was at invasion and conquest.
They kissed greedily in a barely controlled rush that overtook his senses and made him forget to care that people waiting in line for the ride would see them as they passed the bottom. Heat dove for his groin as the wheel lifted them up and over again. When the roller coaster sensation hit, a tiny moan from Miri vibrated through their kiss. His body’s response was quick and male, and so cliché, causing him to deepen the kiss and draw more contented mews and barely audible sounds from Miri.
She pulled away for a breath, her eyes glassy and desirous. She came back to him and caught his bottom lip lightly with her teeth. He groaned and held her cheeks, stroking with his thumbs from her temples to her ears, turning her head so he could angle closer, capture her tongue and taste her over and over.
They broke apart for good when they stopped at the top of the wheel.
“Does this count as fitting in?” he asked, breathless and uncomfortably hard. “Or is it literally some spell that was cast on this ride?”
“It’s just chemistry,” she said, and swallowed.
It wasn’t, he thought. There was definitely more than biology at work.
“I’d like to know what chemical ingredients you chose.”
“Don’t put all the blame on me. What you added was pretty…explosive.” She laid her head once again on his shoulder.
“Well, if it’s just chemistry, I can handle it,” he said.
“Because having a spell cast on you would be too scary?”
“Darn right. Chemical experiments can be controlled.”
“So are you still willing to try the fireworks tomorrow night? Test this theory that you can control the experiment?”
“He set his lips against her ear. “Just bring your lab coat in case something boils over.”

I don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone who’s read Erin Nicholas’s Sapphire Falls series that Jace and Miri are the next pair to fall under the little town’s spell. But how they fall is not a straight or predictable path. I hope you’ll come by tomorrow with your fingers ready to one-click the buy links—so you can read all about the 12 new Sapphire Falls stories and then find out exactly what happens to Jace and Miri!

I have more Sapphire Falls and other goodies to giveaway today. I’d like to know where you had your first kiss! Could it have been on an amusement park ride? Or was it from the cute boy in your fifth grade (or kindergarten!) class.  Inquiring me wants to know! (Open to international readers, too!)

TOMORROW: Meet a couple of the SFKW authors and see the twelve titles releasing Thursday!
