YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED...

INVITATION TO SCANDAL
Kensington Brava
ISBN: 0758259212
Her secrets are coming undone...

Plagued by scandalous rumors, Rheda Kerrich will stop at nothing to restore her reputation and make an honest living for herself-and she's determined to do it without a husband. But times are hard, and smuggling is a risky though profitable trade. So when a dashing agent for the English government catches her in the act, she desperately resists his charms and conceals her illicit profession. Until she realizes he may be the key to her ultimate freedom-and unbridled passion.

Rufus Knight, Viscount Strathmore, has never had trouble beguiling the ladies of Kent. When his search for "Dark Shadow," a cunningly elusive smuggler, leads him to alluring and headstrong Rhe, her objections to his amorous advances merely incite a tantalizing game of cat and mouse. Soon, they'll find the very secrets driving them apart could ensnare them in a love they can't escape…
YOUR INVITATION TO READ SOME OF THE STORY

Bronwen lives in Wellington, New Zealand (important to remember when commenting because of the time difference --grin). She writes dark, gritty regency historicals --her favorite time period. She’s a proud writer and reader of romance! Any romance, but historicals in particular, and the Regency period is her favorite. One of five girls (no brothers) and a twin, it’s no surprise that in her first book features a hero who is a twin! Her debut novel, INVITATION TO RUIN, received a 4.5 star rating from RT Book Reviews and was nominated in the 2011 RT Reviewers’ Choice awards - Best First Historical. Invitation to Ruin was also well received in Publishers Weekly - Evans's debut Regency is filled with sizzling romance... Strong characterizations, smooth plotting, and plenty of explicit sex will appeal to fans of modern Regencies.

INVITATION TO LEARN MORE ABOUT BRONWEN
ANGI: Can you tell us about a real-life hero you’ve met?
BRONWEN: Gosh, a tough question to start! I work part-time running a surgical association in New Zealand and when the second big earthquake hit NZ in February 2011, I saw heroes working to save so many people in terribly dangerous situations. 185 people died but many, many more were injured, losing arms, hands, legs etc. Some of the surgeons had to do on-site amputations, in destroyed buildings, that could collapse further while aftershocks were going on. These surgeons and nurses are true heroes, putting their lives at risk to help others.

ANGI: You’re favorite Regency hero?
BRONWEN: Beside, Rufus Knight, Viscount Strathmore, from Invitation to Scandal, tee hee? Gosh, I have so many! Okay, it’s easy really, Ethan Ryder from One Wicked Sin by Nicola Cornick (July 2011).  For one he was an amazing soldier – the twist being fro the French! Nicola is visiting my blog on 21 May.

ANGI: What’s the most interesting piece of history you’ve discovered while writing?
BRONWEN: Probably when I was researching the UK slavery era and discovered how big the trade had actually been considering you hear hardly anything about it. Bristol, England, was one of the largest slave trading ports in the world.

ANGI: Is there a “Blooper” in your story (it may have been changed before printing)?
BRONWEN: I had loads! Only joking. That’s what a good editor is for. Let me see…. I had a barrel of brandy at the bottom of a cliff and thought my heroine, Rheda would be able to push it up! Duh – so it became a flat beach. [CLUE SEVEN: QUESTION]

ANGI: How is it working with hot guys and sexy women all day?
BRONWEN: I don’t think you mean the surgeons! I LOVE writing. I love the characters that swim in my head, and make me want to spend every hour of the day at my computer. Sometimes these characters find me, like Rufus did – I know, strange name for a hero, but read the book and I bet you’ll agree his name is perfect. At other times I look at movie or TV stars for inspiration and think ooh, I’d love to write a beefy, Damon Salvatore type character.

ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: HEY BRONWEN !!  Since I’m on a Regency Q&A today, I was wondering… IF you were time-traveling and landed in Regency England, what is the number 1 thing you’d miss from the 21st century?
BRONWEN’S GOTTA ANSWER: A proper toilet with toilet paper– gosh how practical am I! Second to that, toothpaste!

Sexy and Single…

And New Zealand billionaire Russell Holloway intends to stay that way, despite appearing on a matchmaking reality TV show. All he wants from his wholesome bachelorette is to whitewash his reputation so he can score the merger of a lifetime. Nothing more...except a few nights’ pleasurable diversion.

New York professional Gail Little goes from reserved to stunning in time for their first date. But when she meets Russell, she knows the matchmaker made a big mistake. The camera may see their instant chemistry, but will Gail allow the perpetual playboy to transform her into his very own plaything…forever?

Today I'm thrilled to introduce fellow Harlequin Desire author Katherine Garbera.  And before we get to the interview i just have to say what a gorgeous cover she has on her May release.

CAT:  What’s your favorite fairy tale?
KATHERINE:  My favorite fairy tale is Beauty and the Beast. I've always loved the Disney version of the story and that she is influenced by the books she's read.  The books I read as a young girl really influenced my life.

CAT:  What’s your favorite cartoon character?
KATHERINE:  I don't have one and I know this makes me weird but my mom didn't let us watch cartoons when I was growing up she always made us play outside!  I do like Hello Kitty! Thought.

CAT:  Is there a playlist you’d recommend for reading your latest release?
KATHERINE:  For my latest release I listened to a lot of Jessie J, Coldplay and my favorite band Dave Matthews Band!

CAT:  What do you do to unwind and relax?
KATHERINE:  Taking long walks with my dog.  Its nice to just be away from everything electronic and enjoy nature.

CAT:  What is your favorite tradition from your childhood that you would love to pass on or did pass on to your children?
KATHERINE:  Celebrating the little things every day.  My mom used to make a contest out of who could get changed out of their school uniform fastest and would give us a prize if we won.  I have done that with my kids.  It just makes each day a little happier.

CAT:  What dreams have been realized as a result of your writing?
KATHERINE:  The biggest dream that has been realized for me by my writing is the fact that both of my kids believe they can do anything.  I didn't want them growing up thinking their only career path was an office job.

CAT:  Tea or Coffee? And how do you take it?
KATHERINE:  Coffee, strong, but with a liberal dash of cream.

GOT A QUESTION YOU’D LIKE TO ASK YOUR FANS?
What is your favorite TV show?

Katherine is giving a way a $5 Amazon gift-card (an electronic one) to two different commenters.

YA PLUS RADIO...what do you get?

WELCOME, CALLER, THIS IS CHLOE

Amulet
ISBN: 1419701916

Big-hearted Chloe Camden is the queen of her universe until her best friend shreds her reputation and her school counselor axes her junior independent study project. Chloe is forced to take on a meaningful project in order to pass, and so she joins her school’s struggling radio station, where the other students don’t find her too queenly. Ostracized by her former BFs and struggling with her beloved Grams’s mental deterioration, lonely Chloe ends up hosting a call-in show that gets the station much-needed publicity and, in the end, trouble. She also befriends radio techie and loner Duncan Moore, a quiet soul with a romantic heart. On and off the air, Chloe faces her loneliness and helps others find the fun and joy in everyday life. Readers will fall in love with Chloe as she falls in love with the radio station and the misfits who call it home.

THIS IS SHELLEY
Young adult author Shelley Coriell’s debut novel, Welcome, Caller, This is Chloe, released May 1 from Amulet Books. A six-time Romance Writers of America Golden Heart finalist, Shelley lives in Arizona with her family and the world’s neediest rescue Weimaraner. When she’s not writing, she bakes high-calorie, high-fat desserts and gives speeches about the joys and business of writing.

THIS IS THE Q&A
MAUREEN: What was your favorite book when you were 12?
SHELLEY:  Summer of Fear by the legendary Lois Duncan. Gripping suspense, teenage jealousy, broken hearts, dark family secrets, and a summer setting where anything – including the horrific – is possible. (Um…can we stop the interview so I can go read?)

JILLIAN: Since the 2010 Golden Heart, what has been your most rewarding publishing moment?
SHELLEY: Getting my first WELCOME, CALLER, THIS IS CHLOE fan letter from a young reader who later tracked me down at a book festival to get my autograph. She was so excited, her hands were shaking. Which made me so excited my hands started shaking.

SIMONE: What inspires you daily?
SHELLEY: My three daughters. One of my long-term goals is to inspire my girls to follow and fight for their dreams.

CAT: What has surprised you the most about being published?
SHELLEY: How much readers care about my characters. In CHLOE I introduced a huge cast of quirky high school misfits (think GLEE in a high school radio station), and I’ve received e-mails from readers wanting to know so much more about them.

DONNELL: Complete this sentence. When I want to relax, I. . .
SHELLEY:  Soak in my new outdoor hot tub with My Guy and a fruity merlot.

ANGI: What’s the first book you remember reading?
SHELLEY: The Barrowers by Mary Norton. For weeks I drank from a thimble and pretended my bed was a matchbox. Yep, I totally lose myself in stories.

ANGI: What’s your favorite fairy tale?
SHELLEY: Sleeping Beauty, preferably with pointe shoes and pancake tutus.

ANGI: What’s your favorite cartoon character?
SHELLEY: Winnie-the-Pooh hands down. I adore his kind-hearted spirit, humility, and simplicity.

ANGI: What turns you off like nothing else?
SHELLEY: Lack of confidence. There’s nothing sexier than a man confident in himself and his place in this world.

ANGI: Is there a playlist you’d recommend for reading your latest release?
SHELLEY:  Everything’s Okay by Lenka, Bubbly by Colbie Caillat, Anchor by Mindy Gledhill, Stereo Hearts by Gym Class Heroes, Fall for You by Secondhand Serenade, Heartbeat by Enrique Iglesias

ANGI: What sound or noise do you love?
SHELLEY: The sound of my husband and children laughing. At times I swear their laughter stills my heart.

ANGI: Fairy Tale or Action Adventure?
SHELLEY: Adventurous Fairy Tale.

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
SHELLEY: Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Witty dialogue. Exquisite clothes. New York swank. Audrey Hepburn. Moon River. The Cat.

ANGI: What is your biggest vice?
SHELLEY: Desserts. After every meal I crave a sweet treat. Sometimes it’s just a square of chocolate or a mint. Lately I’ve been treating myself to honeycrisp apple wedges and a decadent homemade caramel sauce with butter, heavy cream, and marshmallows. Heavenly.

ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: I LOVE deleted scenes and bloopers on DVDs. I haven’t personally had to cut any scenes from my books, but I have written extra scenes for promotion and to answer a couple of unfinished questions. I noticed that you have some “deleted” scenes on your website for WELCOME, CALLER. Can you share more about why they were left on the cutting room floor?
SHELLEY’S GOTTA ANSWER: The minor characters were taking over. CHLOE is one of those books filled with quirky characters driven by strong passions and colorful pasts. There’s Chloe’s Convers-wearing grandma who has an obsession with Brad Pitt. Frack, the radio staffer who stutters except when he’s behind a microphone. Brie, the former best friend, whose perfect life is crumbling. And…um…more. After the first draft, I realized Chloe and her struggles and triumphs through this life-changing were getting overshadowed.

The First Touch of Grace

ANNIE’S TRUTH
Touch of Grace Series
Realms
ISBN: 161638607X

After learning the truth about who she really is, can this prodigal daughter be accepted back into the safety and security of home?

Annie Beiler seems to have it all—a loving family in a tight-knit Amish community and the affections of an attractive and respected young man. But when she learns that she was adopted after being found as an abandoned newborn, she sets out on a journey to find out who she is.

Her father is strongly against her decision to leave, as it could mean Meidung, or excommunication from the community and even her family. But Annie knows she must find “the path that has her heart.”

As Annie’s search brings her into the fast-paced world of modern life, she is confronted with all of the temptations she was warned of. Can she make her way back to the order and security of her family? Or will she remain an outsider—torn between her two worlds?
THE TRUTH ABOUT BETH
In 2003, Beth began her first book. A couple of years later it was published, and she has been writing ever since. Beth received a degree in social work from the University of Nebraska and was a caseworker before starting a family. Beth followed her passion to write and has written in a variety of genres in both fiction and non-fiction. She is represented by Tamela Hancock Murray of the Steve Laube Literary Agency.

Beth fit right into writing Amish stories. Her mother grew up on a ranch and father was raised on a farm, so she understands country life and has great respect for the people who make a living off the land. She frequents a nearby Amish community just south of Fort-Worth for an occasional church service or brunch with the bishop and his wife. And on the way home she stops at the community store to get some plum jam!

TELLING THE TRUTH
& NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH
ANGI: How often to you get lost in a story?
BETH: I can tell you the last time I was completely lost in a story. The first book by Francine Rivers, The Mark of the Lion series, had me glued for an entire weekend. I’d hide so I could keep reading. I still haven’t found a book that compared to those.

ANGI: What’s the first book you remember reading?
BETH: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. It was the first of a six book series, and again, the hiding thing happened until I’d read the entire series.

ANGI: What’s your favorite “love” word?
BETH: Forgiveness, it’s hard for me to give forgiveness and accept it. Come to think of it, my characters do too. Wonder where they got that from?

BETH: I read research for the book I’m writing and a completely different genre for fun. We recently moved a big over-stuffed chair into our living room, you know, the room you never use. Now I have a room to myself where I can curl up and read where it’s quiet.

ANGI: What was the first story you remember writing?
BETH: When I was home last year for Christmas I found a story I wrote in second grade. It was about a donkey that fell in love with a snow drift that looked like a female donkey. I hope my writing has gotten better than that through the yearsJ

ANGI: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
BETH: It’s a Wonderful Life with Jimmy Stewart. I still cry at the same place in the movie every year. My family all stare at me when the scene starts, and wait for the waterworks.
ANGI: What is your biggest vice?
BETH: Chocolate, do you have any?
ANGI: Amaretto ice cream from the Marble Slab, mixed with cinnamon and white chocolate chips. Shame on you for making me confess that!

ANGI’S GOTTA ASK: I saw on your website that you visited Lancaster, Pennsylvania. What was your favorite thing? And what did you want to capture for your books?

BETH’S GOTTA ANSWER: Oh, I could go on forever. I took a friend along with me and neither one of us knew what to expect. The minute you leave the city and start driving through those farms a serene feeling comes over you. It’s like going back in time to see the Amish working and worshiping together as a community. I can still picture snapshots in my head of the little ones all dressed in their black clothes for church the Sunday morning we left. We took over 300 pictures each, so I have plenty to share if you want to go to my website and take a peek.

GET LOST IN A STORY FALLS HARD FOR TRISH JENSEN

Get Lost in a Story Readers, Trish Jensen is one of the most welcoming women I know.  I could go on and on, but her bio sums up Trish Jensen’s stellar career, better than I could.  Our prolific guest, published by such houses as Harlequin, Berkley & Leisure, today Trish Jensen writes for Bell Bridge Books and is on the board of directors of Novelists, Inc., aka NINC, as its Treasurer.  How she got roped into that position (her words, not mine) is a story all its own and for another time. For now, let’s learn more about Trish today as Get Lost in a Story asks her its list of FUN QUESTIONS.

Trish Jensen never meant to become an author. Never aspired to it, in fact it wasn't even in the top ten of jobs on her, "If you could do/be anything, what would it be?" list.

But after seven years in corporate America, she recognized climbing that particular ladder wasn't what she wanted, either. So while she figured out what truly felt right, she decided to go back to school for her MBA. After one semester of THAT, she recognized it would still be the same ladder, just made of better wood, a better view from her office, and yet still a desk job.

So she made a leap to another, really rickety ladder, taking English and creative writing classes just to clear her head and make her brain work in a completely new way. When she tackled the final for her creative writing class, the first chapter of a novel, a crazed writer was born.

She loves this ladder, although she realized rather quickly that it never really becomes less rickety, and along the way there are many rungs that crack or break, making climbing a wonderfully scary, uncertain but never boring proposition.

Yet sitting here in her office -- admittedly with a beautiful view of mountains and wildlife rather than high-rises -- a horrible thought occurs to her. It's a desk job.

(Note to readers.  I ask our authors to provide short blurbs. Here's Trish's.  Obviously, she's a rule follower.)

“He fell for her. Hard, and often.” THE HARDER THEY FALL, Bell Bridge Books, April 2012
LET'S HAVE SOME FUN WITH TRISH JENSEN:

DONNELL:  Trish, thanks for joining us.  I know better than to ask you about the corporate world, so let’s start with:  What’s your favorite room in your house?

TRISH:   Hmmm, that’s a tough one. My bedroom, because I love to sleep, the kitchen, because I love to eat, and my office, because I love to write. As long as there’s a television in all rooms, I’m good, because mostly I need to have noise. But okay, I’ll pick my office where I write, just in case my editor reads this.

DONNELL:  Ocean or mountains?

TRISH:   I live in the mountains, so LOVE THEM! But ocean because when I get to go, it’s such a happy experience. Except the sand in the swimsuit and hair. Scratchy and gritty are not my favorite sensations.
DONNELL:  Did you know you had a gift for humor before your MBA?
TRISH: Hehehe! You wouldn’t believe my submission for my application. Did I know I had a gift for it? I don’t know. But it was what got me out of trouble most of my life. You have no idea how many police officers I had laughing during my youth. I grew up in a family that lived with humor. We still do. Did I know it? I don’t know. It was just ingrained. Family dinners were hysterical. One of my father’s lessons was, “Always laugh at yourself first, beat everyone else to the punch.” It’s something I live by.

DONNELL :   Name one of your characters you would NOT want to show up at a dinner party.  Name a character who you would invite.
TRISH: Hmmm, I guess I wouldn’t want to invite Bunny, the hitman (from Against His Will), because his manners pretty much suck. I’d want Muffin the English Bulldog (from the same book), because he’s more entertaining and intelligent than most humans I know.

DONNELL:  Are you good at darts?
TRISH:  When I was in college, I kicked butt at darts. Free beer was a given if anyone challenged me. Now? Not so much. But I’d have fun playing.

DONNELL:  What’s in your refrigerator right now?
TRISH: A lot of things that should have been thrown out months ago. I go to the grocery store and buy things because they sound good at the time. And never look at them twice once brought home.  Lots of milk. I’m a milk lover. Lots of cottage cheese. Lots of cheese. I love a zillion types of cheese. Can’t live without grapes, oranges, strawberry yogurt.  It’s a really good thing I’m not lactose intolerant.

What’s more interesting is what’s in my pantry. Fifty different types of dog treats (my dog is slightly spoiled…and fat), and Ramen noodle soup. I live on that soup, doused with hot pepper flakes. If food doesn’t set my mouth on fire, I’m not interested. So for a starving artist writer, Ramen noodles and pepper flakes works.
DONNELL:  Do you enjoy reality TV?

TRISH: Actually, yes. But not the type of reality most people enjoy. I love Dancing With The Stars, American Idol, that kind of thing.  Competition shows displaying talent. Reality with people baring their souls and body parts, not so much. I remember asking people what the heck Jersey Shore was, and who Snooki was, and they laughed hysterically at my stupidity. Not big on those. More happy to watch the ones where talent is actually called for. Although I DO love Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels, just because I love his honesty about his faults. And he has a ton of them. But he also has a heart.
DONNELL:  What music do you enjoy, and do you listen while writing?

TRISH: I like music, but not hugely involved with it. And no, I never listen to music while writing. I have TV on 24/7, writing or not. I can’t listen to music because I want to sing along. But can’t stand silence. So I have “white noise” going on all of the time, even when I sleep. Silence spooks me. So TV it is. And since I’m a justice freak, it’s usually any type of mystery/police/trial stuff. I LOVE watching people getting caught being bad.  Should have been a police officer or prosecutor.

DONNELL:  Complete this story.  Your tractor has broken down in the middle of a corn field.  Two people come to your rescue, Farmer Ben who knows his way around a tool belt, and a stranger built like Adonis who, er… doesn’t have any tools.

TRISH:  I thank Farmer Ben profusely for fixing my machine, and invite Adonis to join me in a margarita from my Mark Harmon cooler while we wait. I mean really, was that a tough one?

DONNELL:  (Showoff ;)) Do you ever suffer from writer’s block &, if so, what do you do about it?

TRISH: ALL THE TIME! And I call my best friend and critique partner and talk it through. Or we have critique, discuss and she and my other friend rev me up. They give me ideas, and I drive home so happy and so ready to get to work. I also write to my editor and say, “what do you think?” and she’s SO amazing about throwing out ideas. I LOVE her.
DONNELL:  Do you have a tradition from childhood that you cherish today?

TRISH: A TON of them. But if I had to choose one, it’s that every morning on my birthday, my mother calls me at 5:12 AM, the time I was born, to wish me a happy birthday. Now that I think about it, it’s a pain in the patootie, but it’s still a sweet tradition. Then again, she never fails to remind me that she was up all night birthing me. My dad gets on the phone and says, “I’m sure it was beautiful. I was sleeping well except when your mom kept waking me up screaming. It was kind of rude of her, but I forgave her.”
DONNELL:  If you could meet anyone, alive or dead, past or present, who would it be?

TRISH:  Mark Twain. That man was brilliant, funny, and had an incredible ability to sum up the human race.

AND NOW READERS, TRISH HAS A QUESTION FOR YOU.

TRISH JENSEN'S QUESTION FOR READERS: Excluding politicians (PLEASE), who would you consider a role model for you, yourself or your children?

Winner gets choice of any earlier Trish Jensen' books in  e-book or any books in print.

Note: Offer void where prohibited. Prizes will be mailed to North America addresses only unless specifically mentioned in the post. Odds of winning vary due to the number of entrants. Winners of drawings are responsible for checking this site in a timely manner. If prizes are not claimed in a timely manner, the author may not have a prize available.
