"a story about Healing, Hope and Love..."

See the video!
WRAPPED UP IN CHRISTMAS
An uplifting  Hallmark small town romance

Sarah Smith in Pine Hill, Kentucky has had her heart broken in the past. She pours herself into her work at church and into special projects—like making a quilt for a wounded warrior.
Bodie Lewis is lost. All he’s ever wanted was his career as an Army Ranger, but he was injured in an explosion that killed his brothers in arms. In the hospital, he receives a handmade quilt. Later, he sets out on his final mission: to find and thank its maker.
Bodie expected Sarah to be an elderly lady, not a lovely young woman. When she mistakes him for a handyman, he doesn’t immediately set her straight. Instead, he sets about repairing the home she’s turning into a bed and breakfast. Sarah’s presence and the spirit of the small town bring Bodie something he thought he’d left far behind on the battlefield: hope.
This heartwarming sweet romance includes a free quilt pattern from the Quilts of Valor Foundation and a new original Hallmark recipe for Cinnamon Swirl Bread.

READ A LITTLE, BUY THE BOOK

Award winning author JANICE LYNN loves to spin a tale that touches her readers' hearts by putting a smile on their lips and a tear in their eye. Her favorite read is one with a strong heroine who can laugh at herself and a hero who appreciates the heroine's strengths and imperfections, and can't help but love her. Janice strives to write characters who make her want to go along for their adventure and smile several times on the journey to their happily ever after.

Janice lives in Tennessee with her family, her vivid imagination, an adorable Maltese named Halo, and bunches of unnamed dust bunnies that moved in after she started pursuing my writing career.

THE HOLIDAY INTERVIEW
ANGI:What’s your favorite gift Santa ever left under the tree?
JANICEThe first gift that pops into my mind was NOT my favorite at the time, but is one that stands out and makes me smile when I think of it. When I was an early teen, I was a huge Rick Springfield fan. He had a concert scheduled just after Christmas and I desperately wanted to go. It was the top item on my Christmas wish list. Looking back, I can honestly say, I've never known my parents to go to a single concert so this wasn't a realistic request and likely the tickets would have been way outside their budget as well, but I was young so it's what I wanted. All Christmas season I'd shake this box I just knew had my tickets inside. When I opened it, I was devastated to find a hand drawn ticket complete with a stick figure Rick Springfield singing on it. I'm pretty sure I cried and didn't nearly appreciate my other gifts as much as I should have. Now, it's a very precious memory and one of the few gifts from my childhood that I still own.

ANGI:What’s your favorite Holiday Movie?
JANICE: A Christmas Story. Who doesn't love Ralphie? But if I answered the first thing that popped into my head I'd say The Holiday with Jude Law and Cameron Diaz. That movie makes me sigh and just thinking of it makes me want to go watch it right now. :)

ANGI:What’s your favorite Holiday cartoon special?
JANICE: A Charlie Brown Christmas. I'm definitely a Snoopy fan.

ANGI:Which Holiday film can you watch over and over without falling asleep?
JANICE: I don't typically fall asleep during any movie, so any of them would work here. Again, I love The Holiday, but we watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas (both versions) every year, too.

ANGI:What’s your favorite Holiday desert you’d share with friends?
JANICEEverything my mom makes. Seriously, she is a great cook. At Christmas she makes lots of goodies. I love her Butterscotch bars, her Chess squares, her Peanut butter balls., her Martha Washington candy, her...okay, it's all good. Trust me. :)

ANGI:What is your favorite Holiday tradition?
JANICE: Spending time with family. For me, that is the true joy of Christmas. I have a BIG family. My mom & dad both come from families where there were 7 kids so I have tons of cousins. Christmas is the one time of year we try to all make an effort to get together. Although my kids are older, Santa still fills their stockings for Christmas morning, too. Love watching them go through their goodies.

UP NEXT for JANICE:
Janice is currently working on another Christmas novel that should be available next fall.

JANICE is giving away a snowflake as featured on the Hallmark Channel's Home & Family talk show during the DIY craft segment Janice did with Cameron Mathison on November 8th and as Sarah & Bodie made in Wrapped Up in Christmas. (U.S. only)

C.H.'s Recipe Share: Blueberry Pandowdy

Welcome to my Recipe Share!

Today would have been my Dad's 87th birthday

Although he's been gone for 20 years, I still miss him. In honor of his birthday, I'm sharing one of my Dad's favorites ~ Mom's Blueberry Pandowdy.

Growing up, we were blessed because of our Dad's fondness for baked goods, which included anything sweet. During the Summer, Mom's Blueberry Pandowdy was always baking. It was one of the recipes I copied down before I got married.

I have recipes everywhere...or at least I did until I gathered the 3 x 5 cards, notebook pages, print-outs, etc. and put them in a binder--make that two binders. That got rid of the crumbling file folders I'd rubberbanded together all those years ago. LOL.

Here's a picture of the recipe card from my binder. You can see from the stains that it's been well used. Over the years, I've adapted it to include any berry or fruit. If you have it, use it ;)

We had some gorgeous blueberries the other day, so I got up early, followed Mom's recipe and here's what it looked like...now I'm not certain that's what it should look like since I never actually saw a picture of it. LOL!

I love using my grandmother's Limoges cake plate...makes me feel closer to her. ;)

~ ~ ~

If I had raspberries--it became Raspberry Pandowdy. I made up recipe postcards, which I brought with me to many booksignings over the years. Love the simplicity of these double-sided cards, using our oldest son's advice to take a picture so people can see what it's supposed to look like. I'd like to add, that's what it looks like when I bake it -- not a guarantee of what it should look like. LOL!

~ ~ ~

Here's Mom's recipe:

Blueberry Pandowdy

My mom used to bake this when blueberries were in season. There is nothing like the taste of blueberry pandowdy fresh out of the oven with a cup of coffee or tea for breakfast.

Note: I’ve only made this recipe with fresh berries, but you can substitute frozen or canned blueberries, or whichever berry or fruit you prefer (*see alternate below)—but I can’t guarantee that it will be as delicious as it does with fresh berries.

2 cups washed fresh blueberries (substitute drained, thawed frozen or canned blueberries)
1/3 cup sugar
Juice of ½ lemon (or lemon juice)
Cake batter (see recipe below)
Cream, Hard Sauce, or Vanilla Ice Cream for topping

*I've made this recipe with apples, too--our oldest son loves it*
6 Granny Smith Apples (peeled and sliced thin)
1 & 1/2 cups of sugar
2 tsps. cinnamon
splash of lemon
Cook in medium saucepan until soft, add to greased baking dish (or casserole) top with cake batter.

Combine berries (or fruit,) sugar and lemon juice in a saucepan and cook uncovered, stirring occasionally for about 5 minutes. Pour into a greased (I used margarine) baking dish (9x9x2) if you have it, or if not, I’ve used a casserole dish.

Spread with cake batter (recipe follows) and bake in a preheated moderate oven 375 degrees F for about 20 minutes. Spoon out servings hot or cold and serve with cream (whipped if preferred)
Makes 6 servings.

Pandowdy Cake Batter

½ cup butter (or margarine)
½ cup sugar
1 egg
1 ½ cup sifted flour (I only used Heckers Unbleached)
2 tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
½ cup milk

Cream butter until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in sugar. Stir in egg. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with milk. Beating until smooth. Spread over hot berries…see above berry recipe.

Do you have a favorite sweet recipe that you love? Leave a comment, I love swapping recipes!

Today was supposed to be the day my Sweet Christmas Novella: Christmas Comes to Apple Grove would be available for Pre-Order...

Well it would have been if I'd known that you could only set the Pub date...not the Pre-order date. *sigh*

So it's been available for pre-order since August 28th when I set everything up. I only seem to learn things the hard way, but I always get back up, brush myself off and put one foot in front of the other.

So although I didn't manage to have the pre-order date today, on what would have been my Dad's birthday. In his memory, I'm still thinking of him, thanking him for the gift of life, words and song. Celebrating by giving away a signed print--or e-book--copy of my new Sweet Christmas Novella:

Excerpt Tuesdays-Amanda McIntyre

Coming this fall from Amanda McIntyre
Mr. December

I’ve had such fun writing and expanding on the original Kinnison brothers trilogy (Rugged Hearts, Rustler’s Heart, Renegade Heart) From the stories showcasing the guests in the Last Hope Ranch  stories (renamed by the Kinnison brothers in honor of their step-dad) to the tales of the delightfully quirky secondary characters who live in the small-town End of the Line, Montana, it’s been a blast to meander about the town and tell their stories! Romance, cowboys, small-town humor, drama, danger, intrigue, and of course, Betty’s comfort-food all await those who visit!

I hope you enjoy this FIRST Kiss scene from my upcoming End of the Line novel I call; MR. DECEMBER. Featuring Sheriff J.C. Nash, and accomplished photographer, Olivia Evans, it’s a story of misconceptions, second chances, and small-town meddling at its finest. Enjoy!
~Amanda

First Kiss scene: Mr. December (Fall 2019)

J.C. cleared his throat and focused again on his priorities. This was business. For charity. For the library. For the kids.

“So, I’m thinking, we’ll start out and just take a few shots. Get you used to the camera.” She looked up as she walked over to stand toe-to-toe with him. “And get used to me.” She lifted one dark brow somewhere between mischief and challenge and it nearly did him in.

He stood still, caught under her narrowed scrutiny, her hands her hips. He, too, did some studying—in particular, of how her thin, dark brown T-shirt accentuated her eyes and other attributes further down.

“I’m thinking sexy Sheriff.”

You’ve no idea how right you are, he thought.

She tipped her head when he didn’t respond. “Can you do sexy?”

J.C. opened his mouth to ask if she was blind, but reeled in the snappy comeback.  He licked his lips, holding firm her gaze. “I can give it a try.”

She stared at him an instant longer than he guessed she intended. “Okay then, we’ll give it a try and see what happens.”

She turned away and J.C. looked to the heavens for added strength.

“Why don’t you stand over by the stall and we’ll get started,” she said. “I just need to decide what I want to use on you.”

His brain tweaked at the comment, a purely involuntary reaction that cause him to stumble.

Blaming his over-active sexual idiocy, his boot then caught one of the light-stands, bringing to the floor in a loud crash. In an attempt to catch himself, he knocked loose the wreath from its mooring and it shot with the speed of a rubber band across the barn , taking down another light in the process. His ankle twisted and he went down hard,  smashing her set of perfectly stacked hay bales to smithereens.

Somewhere in the chaos, he heard a high-pitched squeal and watched as Olivia dove toward another light, saving what no doubt would've resulted in a  disastrous domino tumbling of the lights. Sprawled now on the battered hay bales, arms and legs askew akin to a rag doll, he looked up at caught her horrified expression.

“That’s your idea of sexy?” she asked, righting the light stand to its feet.

J.C. sighed. “Can you give me a hand, here?” Yeah, he didn’t really need her help, but he figured it was damn time he got something out of his system, or this wasn’t going to work.

She offered her hand and he took it hauling himself to his feet. Not letting go his grip, he held her hand  in his and breathed in the scent of her perfume--exotic, floral--conjuring images of moonlit nights and tangled sheets.

“You okay? Did you hit your head?” she asked, eyeing him.

He swallowed hard, certain she heard the pounding of his heart. This whole thing could go sideways fast in this day and age, he wanted to be sure she was maybe as curious as him. “There’s one thing that’s bothering me,” he said. His gaze dropped slowly to her tempting mouth. “Really, it’s more about you. You’re...what’s bothering me.”

She frowned, but he caught the spark of interest in her beautiful eyes.

“Me?” she asked. “How am I…wait, is this about what happened—”

He softly traced the pad of his thumb over her lower lip, pleased when he felt her shiver. “I think you have a pretty good idea what I'm talking about.”

Her hand slipped from his. She rested it on the front of his shirt, the heat from her body causing his heart to race She leaned up on tip-toe, her eyes meeting his. Her breath, hot and sweet, smelled of peppermint.

“Is this maybe your idea of sexy, cowboy?”

Her seduction stirred a powerful reaction below his belt. J.C. cupped her face capturing her mouth in a fierce kiss.  Soft, endless, savoring every angle-he explored the sensation, the taste of her lips. Her soft moan urging another kiss, unleashing a powerful, burning hunger inside him. He slid his arms down the gentle slope of her back and drew her close, deepening the kiss.  Dark, sexy images began to play in his brain.

With an audible sigh, she pushed away and took a step back. Her cheeks flushed, her mouth in an adorable well-kissed state, she licked her lips and averted her gaze from his. He knew she’d felt the heat between them. For him, it had been years in the making. An unrequited crush that frankly, he’d thought was completely out of his system. He glanced down, noting the discomfort in his jeans.

Apparently not.

“That—is what’s bothering you?” she asked, finally looking at him.

He lifted a shoulder. “I’ve had a lot of time to think about it,” he said, allowing a grin to slid up one side of his mouth.

“That must have been painful,” she said and her cheeks deepened with color.

“You’ve no idea.” His answer was honest. And that little test only proved that, to at least some degree, reality was much better than his fantasy. Problem was--now he wanted more. Perhaps given enough time, he'd take up where they’d left off and show her exactly his idea of sexy.

SMALL TOWN RUMORS by Carolyn Brown
AMAZON

From New York Times bestselling author Carolyn Brown comes a funny heartache of a novel about overcoming the past, confronting the future, and defying all expectations.
Everyone is talking about Jennie Sue Baker and the mess she made of her life in New York. The former high school queen bee—and wealthy darling of Bloom, Texas—has returned home after all these years, riding on a common bus and bearing two bounced alimony checks. In a town that thrives on gossip, Jennie’s fall from grace has shamed her mother, set the town buzzing, and caused old, jealous enemies to whisper in delight. They say she’s taken a job as a housekeeper, gotten a garage apartment, and might be crushing on Rick Lawson, a simple farmer with modest dreams.

As romance starts to bud, Jennie relishes what it means to follow her heart, find real new friends, and finally be herself—regardless of all the lying town chatter. But fate has another twist in store. Rumor has it that Jennie now stands to lose what matters most…unless she can convince Rick of one true thing—and that’s love.
CHATTING WITH CAROLYN ABOUT SMALL TOWN RUMORS:
AMANDA: What characteristic do you love/hate most about Jennie Sue Baker?
CAROLYN: I hate that she put up with her ex-husband’s mental abuse as long as she did but I love that she finally takes control of her life. I like her big heart and the fact that money and prestige aren’t high on her list.
AMANDA: What makes your hero lovable in this story?
CAROLYN: He's a broken hero who needs fixing and no one has been able to do that. He’s kind, gentle, and sweet but he’s got an inner core of strength. Jennie Sue helps him find that strength to overcome his not care about the wounds he received fighting for our country.
AMANDA :What tradition was important for you to teach your children, and/or grandchildren?
CAROLYN: Family! Plain and simple. In today’s high tech world too many times family values get pushed aside for speed, one line text messages and fast phone calls. Someone asked me once what my secret was for having a close knit family. My answer was that it’s simply, “home in time for supper.” It didn’t matter how many kids had come to our yard to play or where my three kids were, when it was supper time, they were to be sitting around the table with me and their dad. It was our family time to talk about school, jobs, food, the books we were reading or whatever was on our minds that day. Just our family and an hour or even longer if the conversation went that long to stop and pay attention to family.
AMANDA: Small town or city life?
CAROLYN: Small town, hands down! I love small towns and write about them in most of my books. They have a heartbeat and pulse of their own. An example: A few years ago my sister passed away here in our small town (one traffic light and a population of under three thousand). We didn’t cook a meal for a week and ate leftovers for a week after that. Small town folks might be nosy but they take care of each other. Here in our part of the world, we tell folks that everyone knows what everyone is doing, with whom and where they are doing it and we all read the local paper just to see who got caught.
AMANDA:  Sunrise or sunset?
CAROLYN: Either or both. Texas has the most beautiful sunsets and sunrises I’ve ever seen.
EXCERPT:
Jennie Sue Baker could almost hear the rumors buzzing around the small town of Bloom, Texas, when she stepped off the Greyhound bus in front of the Main Street CafƩ that Monday at noon. On a slow day, gossip hung over the town like smoke in an old western honky-tonk. On a good day, in the opinion of the community, it obliterated the sun.
Today would definitely be a good day for Bloom, but to Jennie Sue, the target of all those rumors, it would be downright miserable.
She wiped sweat from her brow and then picked up the single suitcase that the driver set out on the sidewalk beside her. Glancing around as the bus pulled back out onto the highway, she expected to see her mother’s pearly-white Cadillac parked nearby, but it wasn’t anywhere in sight.
She set the suitcase down and seriously considered sitting on it. It wasn’t her mother’s fault—not really, because she hadn’t called her until an hour ago, and Charlotte was never on time for anything except her hair appointments. That was because the beauty salon was the breeding ground for the best talk in town.
Well, her mama had better hurry, because Jennie Sue Baker sitting on a suitcase on Main Street would stir up more than anything the beauty shop could dream up.
The smell of greasy burgers, bacon, and fries wafted across the street from the cafĆ©. Her stomach reminded her that the package of crackers from a vending machine she’d had for breakfast had long since disappeared. Dragging her suitcase across the street, she was so focused on the cafĆ© that she didn’t notice the vehicle pulling up to the curb only a few feet from her. When the driver honked, she jumped and glared at the car before she realized that it was her mother. She couldn’t see Charlotte’s face through the tinted windshield, but she could sure enough feel the icy-cold aura coming from the car when she opened the back door and shoved the suitcase inside.
“I’ve come up with a perfect story,” Charlotte started the moment that Jennie Sue was buckled up.
Jennie Sue wasn’t surprised at the first words out of her mother’s mouth, but she was disappointed. “Hello to you, too, Mama. It’s really good to see you. You look as beautiful as ever. Has it really been six months since I’ve seen you?”
“Don’t sass me,” Charlotte snapped. “We talk and text every week. And speaking of the last time I saw you, it doesn’t look like you’ve done anything to lose that extra ten pounds you’re carryin’ around.”
“I’d been in the hospital. Besides, I like food,” Jennie Sue said.
“Evidently,” Charlotte sighed. “Do you like looking like a homeless woman, too? When word gets out that you came in on a bus dressed like that, I won’t be able to hold my head up.” She eased the car out onto the street. “I bet Cricket was watchin’ from the cafĆ©. Nothing escapes that girl’s eye.”
“I’m not a movie star, Mama, and I didn’t see any paparazzi fighting to get pictures of me. This is Bloom, not Los Angeles. I’m not that important.” She shifted in her seat.

Are you a Cowgirl at Heart?

When I wrote the Kinnison Legacy, it was followed by Jed Kinnison’s dream for his ranch to become a place of healing and second chances, thus was born the Last Hope Ranch series.

As I wrote, new characters found their way to town, readers wanted to know more about my secondary characters. What were their stories? I realized then that the small, historic mining town had taken on a life of its own and so began the End of the Line series...End of the Linewhere romance finds its happily ever after.

I have since drawn up a "bible" of sorts for each family to included children and extended family as well as a map of End of the Line and all its businesses. I can see it perfectly in my mind as I grew up in a similar small town rural setting! It's been great fun to build this world and I hope you'll enjoy visiting End of the Line often!

Today and tomorrow I’ll be sharing a bit about these related stories and how ONCE UPON A DEADWOOD DREAM (included in the Wild Deadwood Tales anthology)  fits into them!!

It all began with the Kinnison brothers, three young teens –two adopted through marriage and one a nephew, taken in after a tragic accident. When Jed Kinnison finds himself alone to raise three teenage boys whose lives have been turned upside down, it’s the hard work and discipline of the ranch that turn them into the dedicated, exceptional men they become—and when he dies, they are left to continue his legacy both in town, and the dreams he had for the ranch.

But when Liberty, half-sister to the men he calls his brothers, arrives unexpectedly, she brings with her danger—not only to his heart, but to his family as well!

AMAZON
Renegade Hearts (Book 3, Kinnison trilogy) features Dalton Kinnison and Angelique Greyfeather-Juarez (niece of Michael and Rebecca Greyfeather)
Dalton Kinnison takes pride in his bachelorhood, but his good timin’ ways are about to be challenged when his past waltzes into town, looking more beautiful and less interested than when last they met. Fate offers Angelique a second chance after a horrific experience, but when sparks fly between her and Dalton, they threaten to reveal secrets that could change their lives forever.

***Now, as in any small town it has its struggles, its secrets and scandals—some unexpected, some of the characters own making, like when End of the Line’s elementary music teacher decides after a long bout of putting her life on hold, she’d like to have a child. With no prospect of a groom, heck, even a boyfriend and unable to afford traditional means—she decides to scope out a candidate perfect for her purposes and finds it in Clay Saunders, a guest of the Last Hope Ranch, and friend of the Kinnison brothers.***
