                                                                    Scotland 1072

The Norman Conqueror robbed Steinar of Talisand of his noble father and his lands, forcing him to seek refuge in Scotland while still recovering from a devastating wound. At the royal court, Steinar becomes scribe to the unlettered King of Scots while secretly regaining his skill with a sword.

The first time Steinar glimpses the flame-haired maiden, Catrìona of the Vale of Leven, he is drawn to her spirited beauty. She does not fit among the ladies who have come to serve the devout queen. Not pious, not obedient and not given to stitchery, the firebrand flies a falcon!

Catrìona has come to Malcolm’s court wounded in spirit from the vicious attack on her home by Northmen who slayed her parents and her people. But that is not all she will suffer. The king has promised her to one of his favored warriors, but she has given her heart to a lowly scribe.

When all is lost, what hope is there for love? Can a broken heart be mended? Can a damaged soul be healed?

New Release! Get Lost in Medieval England with King's Knight!

Hello all! Regan here. I invite you to step into Medieval England at a time when knights and their ladies lived in troubled times. My new release, King's Knight, is set in England in the late 11th century. It was a difficult time for a knight who had given his loyalty to the king but his heart to a woman the king would never approve as a bride for a future earl.

It's the latest in my award-winning Medieval Warriors series… King’s Knight, just released this week.

Set in 1091, it’s the story of Sir Alexander of Talisand and Merewyn of York, a story for every woman who ever believed she was unworthy of her dream...

Comment to win a copy of King's Knight... I'm giving away 2 paperbacks. And there is also the poster to win!

HE SEIZED LIFE BY THE THROAT

Dubbed the Black Wolf for his raven hair, his fierceness in battle and his way with women, Sir Alexander of Talisand attacked life as he did the king’s enemies. But acclaim on the battlefield and his lusty escapades did not satisfy. King William Rufus would bind him to Normandy through marriage to one of its noblewomen, but the only woman Alexander wanted was a commoner he had saved from a terrible fate.

SHE KEPT MEN AT BAY WITH HER BOW

The shame of being the child of a Norman’s rape dogged Merewyn’s steps from her youth. Determined never to be a victim of a man’s lust like her mother, in Wales she donned the garb of an archer and developed extraordinary skill with a bow. Despite her fair beauty, men now keep their distance. No longer in need of protection from other men, can Merewyn protect herself from Alexander when he holds her heart yet can never be hers?

An excerpt:

“Stay,” she whispered. With that one word, she knowingly sealed her fate. One day she might lose him to Lady Adèle or some other woman at the king’s command, but tonight he could be hers. And she would have the memory to treasure forever.
“Merewyn, do you know what you are saying?”
She turned from him, needing the distance to speak the words she must. The maidservant had lit a candle and Merewyn stared into the flame as she spoke, feeling the heat of his presence behind her. “There has never been another for me, Alex. I had thought with the years passing and you becoming a knight, my feelings for you would change. But they have not.”
Turning to face him, she looked into his seductive gray eyes and spoke with the conviction of one who has finally decided. “Whatever happens after this, no matter where your oath to the king leads you or where I go as a consequence, we will always have this night. I will give myself to only you and I will remember this night forever.”
“Aye, Merewyn,” he said coming closer and putting his hands on her arms, the heat of them robbing her of breath. “You will have your night of love and I vow ’twill not be the last.”

Praise for the Medieval Warriors series:

“This series captures the medieval era perfectly, creating the true sensation of traveling back in time to experience epic, riveting love stories that ignite the imagination. Beautifully written, perfectly paced and action-packed... What more can you ask?”

October First Friday - Celebrating Fall!

Hello everyone!  I'm in major deadline mode, but I thought I'd poke my head up and check in with you all.  Hopefully everyone is doing well!

The crew is here today to celebrate fall. I don't know about you, but it's my favorite season--I love almost everything about this time of year. The cool air, the beautiful leaves, and let's not forget the food: soups with crusty bread, cookies, and spiced tea.  Does it get any better?

What's your favorite time of year?

Don't forget to check out my latest release, Enticed by the Operative, which is book 1 in my Doctors in Danger miniseries!  Dr. Do or Die, book 2, is coming in January and is available for pre-order now!

You know it's fall in San Diego where I live when the pumpkin patches start popping up, people's conversations turn to the Chargers' games and some hearty souls drive to the mountains in east county to Julian to pick apples.

For me, when the mornings turn crisp, it makes for brisk walks along the coast.

Do check out my new release, King's Knight. The book releases on October 11 but it's available now for preorder on Amazon US, UK and Canada, among other places.

My Book Addiction and More called it "A tantalizing and intriguing medieval romance."

Typical Sydney spring blue sky
Early birthday present!
Well, here Downunder, it’s not fall (or autumn, as we call it) – it’s spring. For me, this is not such a good time, as I live in a suburb of Sydney riddled with plane trees and whenever there’s the tiniest breeze, the fluff from them plays havoc with just about every mucus membrane I own. Still, at least the sky is a glorious blue, and the temperature is divine.

Halloween has never really established a big foothold in Australia, I’m sorry to say. So the only thing of note I have to share for October is my birthday! It’s not until the end of the month, but luckily I got my present early and I’m sharing it because I think all of us here will enjoy this gorgeous handbag.

There's something to love in each season - and since I live in Minnesota - we  get all four seasons. But when the trees ignite the landscape with their brilliant colors and I can have a fire at night with a glass of wine--it doesn't get much better than that.

Don't forget THROUGH A MAGNOLIA FILTER Book 3 in the Fitzgerald Series is out now.  Amazon B&N
Book 4 - THE OTHER TWIN is available for pre-order. I just got the cover. What do you think?  Amazon B&N

Is it really fall? It's hard to tell in Texas most of the time. I think I saw some leaves falling. I've actually been traveling...a lot. Just two weeks ago I was enjoying the hot sunshine of the Gulf in Florida. But I'm all tanned up and ready for some brisk breezes around here.

I'm celebrating my New England trip last year by sharing additional photos on my blog this month. Punkin' or the adventures of a New England Gourd can be viewed on A PIC A DAY. Here are some great pictures of our fall trip. I hope you can stop by and enter my monthly drawing: Rafflecopter Giveaway

Get Lost in Medieval Scotland with Regan Walker!

In a land of mountains and mists, there once lived a rough warrior king and his fair-haired ladylove, a queen so devout she had once thought to take vows to become a nun. But that was before Malcolm, King of the Scots, glimpsed her and instantly fell in love.

Margaret and Malcolm were the proverbial beauty and the beast and a true love match.

To their court in Dunfermline flocked the mighty men of valor who had faced down William the Conqueror, Northmen from the Orkneys, an Irish nobleman from Leinster and a Welsh bard. Oh yes, and a Northumbrian warrior, who was gravely wounded fighting with the rebels in York.

Once an English thegn's son, Steinar of Talisand, now serves as scribe to the unlettered King of Scots, while secretly regaining his skills with a sword.

Against this backdrop enters a Scottish nobleman’s orphaned daughter, a flame-haired beauty, who will become one of Queen Margaret’s ladies-in-waiting, and the woman all the warriors want for their own.

It’s Rebel Warrior, book 3 in the Medieval Warriors series. And it’s on Amazon now for preorder, releasing May 17.

This is my first novel set in Scotland. Why, you might ask, did I go there? Well, first the history took me there. With all the Anglo-Saxons fleeing north when their country was overrun with rampaging Normans, Scotland had to be interesting, right? And then in 1072, the year of my story, the Conqueror invaded Scotland. I could hardly fail to note that. So take a plunge into the Scotland of the past… where your destiny lies far from where you began.

“Master storytelling transports you to medieval Scotland!”
Paula Quinn, NY Times Bestselling Author

Scotland 1072

The Norman Conqueror robbed Steinar of Talisand of his noble father and his lands, forcing him to flee to Scotland while still recovering from a devastating wound. At the royal court, Steinar becomes scribe to the unlettered King of Scots while secretly regaining his skill with a sword.

The first time Steinar glimpses the flame-haired maiden, Catrìona of the Vale of Leven, he is drawn to her spirited beauty. She does not fit among the ladies who serve the devout queen. Not pious, not obedient and not given to stitchery, the firebrand flies a falcon! Though Catrìona captures Steinar’s attention, he is only a scribe and she is promised to another.

Catrìona has come to Malcolm’s court wounded in spirit from the vicious attack on her home by Northmen who slayed her parents and her people. But that is not all she will suffer. The man she thought to wed will soon betray her.

When all is lost, what hope is there for love? Can a broken heart be mended? Can a damaged soul be healed?

Read an excerpt:

“Here,” he said reaching toward her, “take my hand and allow me to help you out.”
There was fire in her eyes but she took his hand while holding on to her shoes, soaked with water.
He pulled her from the stream, sodden and shivering. It was the first time they had touched and, even dripping wet, the feel of her skin caused a surge of desire to course through him. The wet gown clung to her body, revealing her nipples hardened to small buds and her curves in vivid detail. Wet, she was even more alluring than before. He wanted to pull her close, to feel her softness, but instead, he merely steadied her with his hands. “Did you not see the moss that grows on the log? ’Tis quite apparent.”
Her brow furrowed. “You might have warned me.”
“You fell before I could.”
Wiping water from her face, she looked up at him. Her eyes were the green of the forest around them. Light filtering through the trees added a soft glow to her pale, damp skin. His gaze dropped to her lips, the color of wild roses. He ached to kiss them.
Bending his head, he moved his lips closer to hers.
Water suddenly dripped from her hair onto her nose, causing her to sniff and step back.
Still holding her shoes in one hand, she shivered. “I… I must look a mess.”
“Indeed not, but you are pale.” Recognizing her predicament, he said, “I wear no cloak to offer you, but I can give you the heat of my body.” Taking the shoes she carried and dropping them to the ground, he pulled her into his arms and held her against his chest, ignoring the water soaking into his tunic. Her breasts pressed into his chest, warming him as his body responded to the nearness of the woman he could not dismiss from his thoughts.

Get Lost in Medieval England with Rogue Knight!

Hi, there! It's Regan WALKER here... joining you today to tell you about my new medieval romance, ROGUE KNIGHT, and share a bit of the history and an excerpt, a teaser to make you want more!

This story follows THE RED WOLF'S PRIZE, which was #1 in Amazon's Top 100 Medieval Romances last year, and has just won the RONE award for Best Historical Novel for 2015 in the medieval category

Have you ever heard of the "Harrying of the North" that occured in England in the winter of 1069-70? Neither had I until I began my research for the series. It was the time when William the Conqueror decided to show no mercy. It wasn't enough to conquer and rule; he was bent on total submission and he eventually got it. The book is set in medieval York where it all happened.

Perhaps the most famous account of the Harrying comes from the ancient chronicler Orderic Vitalis, who stated:

“Nowhere else had William shown such cruelty. Shamefully he succumbed to this vice, for he made no effort to restrain his fury and punished the innocent and the guilty. In his anger he commanded that all crops and herds, chattels and food of every kind should be bought together and burned to ashes with consuming fire, so that the whole region north of the Humber might be stripped of all means of sustenance. In consequence so serious a scarcity was felt in England, and so terrible a famine fell upon the humble and defenceless populace, that more than 100,000 Christian folk of both sexes, young and old alike, perished of hunger.”

I can tell you such times make for some exciting scenes. ROGUE KNIGHT is the story of Sir Geoffroi de Tournai, one of the French knights who followed William to England and fought at the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

The short description:
Click on the cover to order

York, England 1069… three years after the Norman Conquest

The North of England seethes with discontent under the heavy hand of William the Conqueror, who unleashes his fury on the rebels who dare to defy him. Amid the ensuing devastation, love blooms in the heart of a gallant Norman knight for a Yorkshire widow.

A LOVE NEITHER CAN DENY, A PASSION NEITHER CAN RESIST

Angry at the cruelty she has witnessed at the Normans’ hands, Emma of York is torn between her loyalty to her noble Danish father, a leader of the rebels, and her growing passion for an honorable French knight.

Loyal to King William, Sir Geoffroi de Tournai has no idea Emma hides a secret that could mean death for him and his fellow knights.

WAR DREW THEM TOGETHER, WAR WOULD TEAR THEM APART

War erupts, tearing asunder the tentative love growing between them, leaving each the enemy of the other. Will Sir Geoffroi, convinced Emma has betrayed him, defy his king to save her?

USA Today Bestselling Author Kathryn Le Veque, who read the manuscript, described the book as "Mesmerizing medieval romance! A vivid portrayal of love flourishing amidst the turbulence of the years after the Norman Conquest."

Mayhap you would like to read of their first meeting… a bit ominous but remember, it led to love:

Dear God.
She crossed herself and covered her mouth, fighting the urge to spew at the sight of so much blood and so many bodies strewn about the clearing, blood congealed on their clothing, their vacant eyes staring into space. Some of the blood had pooled on the ground to catch the rays of the sun. The metallic scent of it, carried by the wind, rose in her nostrils.
At her side, the hound whimpered.
So many.
Until the Normans had come, Yorkshire had been a place of gentle hills, forests and thatched cottages circling a glistening jewel of a city set between two winding rivers. A place of children’s voices at play, some of those voices now silenced forever, for among the bodies lying on the cold ground were mere boys, their corpses cast aside like broken playthings.
At the sound of heavy footfalls on the snow-crusted ground, she jerked her head around, her heart pounding in her chest.
A figure emerged from the trees, so close she could have touched him.
She cringed. A Norman.
A tall giant of a knight, his blood-splattered mail a dull gray in the weak winter sun, ripped off his silvered helm and expelled an oath as he surveyed the dozens of dead. The sword in his hand still dripped the blood of those he had slain. He was no youth this one, at least thirty. His fair appearance made her think of Lucifer, the fallen angel of light. A seasoned warrior of death who has taken many lives.
Had he killed people she knew? Her heart raced as fear rose in her chest.
Would she be next?

Beginning about a year ago, I started doing Pinterest storyboards for my books. The storyboards document my research and provide a pictorial display of images from the book. Many of my readers love them. I thought you might like to see the one for ROGUE KNIGHT (link below).

Tell me what you love about medieval romance for a chance to win book 1, THE RED WOLF'S PRIZE!
