HAPPY 2014

The Crew is burning up the pages in 2014.

Glory, Book 3 in The Dust Chronicles is coming June 10, 2014. Plus, the entire series is getting new covers! I can't wait to share them with you!
Here's a sneak peek at the cover copy for Glory.
Glory is a Deviant. That is what she was always taught, growing up in the domed city of Haven. She has the power to kill with her gaze, but she's learned to control this power and use it only against the monstrous Shredders who are addicted to the asteroid dust that mutated their DNA.
Now, living in a settlement Outside, Glory has the chance to embrace her “Gift” and reunite her remaining family. But she can’t hide from the threat of Shredder attacks or the knowledge of what Management is doing to the employees of Haven.

Can she face losing everything she has left to bring freedom to Haven? Will she choose the familiar safety of Cal’s love or risk Burn’s dangerous passion? Glory must decide how far she is willing to go to keep her family safe, and what it really means to be a monster.

Coming in Spring of 2014 the third book in my Kennison Falls series. The follow-up to "The Rancher and the Rock Star" and "Rescued by a Stranger." Tentatively titled "Beauty and the Brit" (but don't hold me to that one). More information to come soon!

My second book, FATAL FALLOUT, will be released in August.  This is Thomas's story--I had so much fun with him in DEADLY CONTACT, I knew he needed his own book. :) I'm so excited for his story to be released, I'm practically counting the days!

In December, my third book (tentatively titled DEADLY DECEPTIONS) will be released.  This one is Jillian Mahoney's story (she was the ER doctor who patched up Kelly in DEADLY CONTACT).  I'll definitely share more as her release date gets closer!

Be sure to stop by my website, or friend me on Facebook to stay up to date on the latest news!

2014 releases from Jillian:
Happy New Year! Best wishes for a great 2014.
Coming in Spring of 2014, my first contemporary erotic romance (has a secret title). In late Spring, early Summer, there will also be a novella published by Ellora's Cave. Then in Fall, the first novel in the Gentlemen of Scotland Yard spin-off series, CODENAME: DRAGON. I know Phaeton Black fans want to know if there will be more books, and I am happy to say there will be, only I have to find time to write them. My schedule is booked solid this year! I have tentatively planned three more books in the series, that will focus on the antiheroes (including Phaeton, of course!). The first title to be released sometime in 2015, PROSPERO IN LOVE. For more news go to my website: jillianstone.com

In early 2014, I'll release a new historical romance series set in the Missouri Ozarks during the Civil War. True Tales from Buffalo Creek features two sexy Cherokee brothers who take very different paths during wartime and must deal with the consequences of their decisions.

Early in the summer of 2014, I'll release the next installment in the series Steam! Romance and Rails. Dangerous Passions, a historical romantic suspense, is the sequel to the novel Passion's Prize.

I'll be releasing this steamy suspense just in time for the fourth season of the television series Hell On Wheels, and I'll be running some great promotions to celebrate both big railroad stories.

Follow me on Facebook or sign up for my newsletter for more information about my new releases, and maybe even a sample of what's coming.

Happy New Year!

I've got the next 4 books of my time travel Highland Sorcery series coming out with Highland Son, Highland SoldierHighland Chieftain, and one as yet still untitled. Maybe y'all could help with that...

Maid Marian and The Lawman by Deb Stover

Get Lost in a Story readers, since publication of her first novel in 1995, Deb Stover has received dozens of awards for her cross-genre fiction, including ten RT Book Reviews nominations and a Career Achievement Award.  Today she’s our guest, and we get to learn more about her.  Please welcome Deb Stover as she promotes her new release Maid Marian and the Lawman

1896 Oklahoma Indian Territory
Mary Goode has spent nearly a decade hiding her sweetly off-kilter brother, Robin, and two fellow misfits after she rescued them from a brutal institution. But unknown to Mary, the trio's fascination with Robin Hood and their hero's crusade to "steal from the rich and give to the poor" may have led to a few actual robberies.

U.S. Marshal Shane Latimer is on the trail of the inept Robin Hood and his shabby band of not-so-tough Merry Men when his rattlesnake-spooked-horse lands him in the care of Robin's fiercely protective sister, Mary, aka Maid Marian.

He's instantly charmed by Mary's devotion to her whimsical brood but worries that she may be hiding the truth. Still, for a cynical loner like Shane, the appeal of their family affection, love, and loyalty, combined with Mary's growing hold on his heart, is hard to resist.

Mary is equally torn. This wounded stranger could be the man of her dreams, and for the first time in her life she has someone to share the challenges of keeping her brigands out of trouble.

But will her quest for happiness forever shatter the idyllic life she's forged for her special family?

And how will Shane reconcile his duties as a lawman with his love for Maid Marian and her outlaws?

~ ~

Now let's meet Deb Stover!

DONNELL:  Welcome, Deb! I don’t know anyone who isn’t a fan of Robin Hood so I have to ask, are you a fan of the fable, the American version, or, like me, did Errol Flynn have anything to do with your inspiration?

DEB: Thanks, Donnell. I’ve loved the tale of Robin Hood all my life, including the Errol Flynn version. Okay, yes, even MEN IN TIGHTS. Ahem…

DONNELL:  You write cross genre and Maid Marian and the Lawman is a Historical.  Break it down for us.  Fantasy, Historical, Contemporary, Other?  Do you have a favorite genre?

DEB: Time-travel Romance is probably my favorite genre. I love seeing history from a contemporary viewpoint. I also enjoy reincarnation stories with a parallel story, like I wrote in my MULLIGAN series. MAID MARIAN AND THE LAWMAN is one of only two “straight” Historicals I’ve written.

DONNELL:  Your books are known for great story telling and sexual tension, but you also always add a sense of right and wrong, e.g. an education concerning people with disabilities.  You have a beautiful daughter named Bonnie – is she your inspiration for this, or does it go even deeper?

DEB: Thanks, Donnell. I guess I’ve always had a strong sense of right and wrong and justice, and I always love to fight for the underdog. I learned that from my parents, who used to leave food out for a homeless man who lived over on the river near our home when I was a child. Back then we called them “hobos.” He lived near the river and railroad track. I also had an aunt with a disability who lived at home with my grandparents and was always treated as just another member of the family. When we were children, we rarely saw kids with disabilities at school or even out in public at stores, etc. When we brought Bonnie into our family at 11 days of age, my late husband and I made it a mission to learn as much as we could to ensure all her rights were honored and that she received all the benefits society intended her to have. I went through training in Colorado to learn about Special Education Rights and Responsibilities and worked as a Parent Trainer for a while before becoming a full-time writer. Inclusion, acceptance, and remembering that disabilities are natural are important to me. So, yes, Bonnie is an inspiration. :)

DONNELL:  Speaking of heroic people ;) you’ve written a lot of heroes in your day.  What is something they all generally possess, and how do you make them unique?

DEB: My heroes are honorable, loyal, dedicated, and often have a wicked sense of humor. They are unique because their personal situations are different. Each hero—or any character—I create is a unique individual with his or her own set of traits, strengths, and challenges.

DONNELL:  What’s your favorite room in your house, and if you’re not writing, where will we find you?

DEB:LOL! Well, my favorite room in my house is my office, so you’ll usually find me right here even when I’m not writing. If not here, then in the kitchen. I’ve discovered the joy of cooking since arthritis has stolen the joy of sewing and crocheting. I can still type and cook, though.

DONNELL:  What’s the most unusual thing you have in your closet?

DEB: An antique mirror that belonged to my great-grandmother. It’s probably about 160 years old, approximately six feet tall, and very heavy. It has a white plaster frame—very ornate—and warped, stained silver glass. I plan to hang it in my dining room beside my great-grandfather’s writing desk, so they’ll be “together” again.

DONNELL:  What’s in your refrigerator right now?

DEB: Everything? Almond milk, leftover Christmas ham, pecan pie, half-n-half, butter, eggs, brie, salmon, fresh mozzarella, lettuce, green peppers, cabbage, Kale, carrots, garlic, scallions, gluten-free hot dogs and buns for Bonnie, mustard, ketchup, unfiltered vinegar, molasses, yeast, sour cream, ginger root, hot sauce, red pepper jelly (yum), and that’s all I can think of without going to look.

DONNELL:  (wow, you sound organized) What are you working on now?

DEB: This interview. :) Okay, I am plotting a hybrid sequel of both The Gift and Mulligan Magic. My Mulligan series is the one readers write to me the most asking for another story, and my agent would like to see a sequel to The Gift, so I have an idea to send Sam Dearborn to Ireland, where he will meet Ailish from Mulligan Magic. My working title will be Mulligan Secret.

Deb, thanks for being our guest.  And now it’s your turn to ask readers a question.

DEB STOVER:  I’d love to know what makes readers download books online. Is it reviews, pricing, word of mouth, past experience with the author, or something else? There are no wrong answers.

I would love to give away a book. How about a paperback copy of Maid Marian and The Lawman? If the winner has already read this book, they may choose another if I have copies from my bibliography (http://www.debstover.com/books.html)   U.S. Residents only please for paperback -- Digital international winners.

Angi's January Release

A former Marine and a pet-sitter, both with broken pasts, find healing and a future neither imagined possible. Saving a puppy, fleeing murderers, and a recognition of each other's shattered dreams, draws them together and creates a bond that goes beyond either's logic.

"Morgan launches the volley from the first pages so readers aren't left wondering whodunit, but they'll have to pay attention to the escalating action to keep up with the characters, who are in trouble from the get-go."

Here are a couple of pictures from our research trip from Dallas to Amarillo.

My friend Linda Castillo sent me some pictures of the snow in Amarillo two days after our visit.

Meet Jake & Bree

on shelves now
digital available January 1

Felix Baumgartner as Jake Craig.

Meg Ryan as Sabrina Watkins.

And Dallas...as herself.

Why Felix? About the time I came up with the idea for THE MARINE'S LAST DEFENSE, Felix Baumgartner did something no man had done before. On Oct 12th, 2012, Felix broke the sound barrier wearing only a space suit--without a vehicle. Amazingly, STAR TREK 2009 did it, too. I was in a hotel room when my husband called to tell me to watch the live feed. It was so amazing seeing another piece of STAR TREK coming to life. Baumgartner is impressive. A dare devil. And a very good-looking man. Jake is not--a daredevil that is. He's running from problems he doesn't admit he has. And somehow a six month old black labrador helps him face those problems.

Why Meg? Well, why not? I love this photo of her. During THE MARINE'S LAST DEFENSE, Bree has dark hair that she's dyed because she's in hiding. I thought of Meg in JOE vs. THE VOLCANO where she portrayed several roles. Bree plays several roles in the book: heroine in jeopardy, possible con artist, dog walker, successful business entrepreneur and the only person who fills a void in Jake's soul.

And I've already shared why the pup is named Dallas. (Read more about Dallas.)

TWO CHANCES to WIN a copy: the GLIAS Christmas Wishes giveaway or my monthly drawing for a book & gift card.

I have to admit that I was completely satisfied with the young George Clooney look-alike on the cover. Had you ever heard of Felix Baumgartner before today?

Ever since her husband’s sudden and tragic death, Lady Penelope Bridgeman has committed herself to studying the maladies of the mind, particularly the trauma of soldiers of the Napoleonic Wars. It is this expertise that brings the Marquess of Bromwich’s family to her door.

Gabriel Devereaux’s unexpected and unpredictable episodes are unlike any Penelope has studied. The once proud soldier has been left shaken and withdrawn, but Penelope manages to build a fragile trust between them. Strangely, Gabriel seems completely lucid when not in the grips of his mania, and during the calm bouts between, she is surprised by how much she is drawn to him.

Despite his own growing feelings, Gabriel knows that he is fit for no one and is determined to keep Penelope away from his descent into madness. But even though she knows firsthand the folly of loving a broken man, Penelope cannot stop herself from trying to save him, no matter the cost.

Unable to protect her mother from her father as a child,  Devin McQueen has made it her mission as an adult to protect as many abused women and children as she can.  The rare moments she’s not consumed with work as a victims’ advocate, she involves herself with safe, predictable accountant- type men.

Everything is as good as it can be…until she meets bounty hunter Grady Cooper.  He is big, bold and brash, and has no problem speaking his mind.

Growing up in a broken home, Grady realizes early on that every good deed has a price.  To survive with as few scars as possible, he learns to weigh every decision by what he can gain.  But the successful, solitary life he’s worked so hard to create spins out of control when demons from his past shake his confidence.  His boss gives him one last chance- bring in Devin’s latest client quickly and quietly and maybe he’ll still have a job.

Suddenly, Grady must make the ultimate decision: follow his career or follow his heart?

Is Kelly an accomplice or a victim? Just what are her secrets that drove her from James's bed? Soon one thing becomes clear: The ghosts of her past have nothing on the terrorists targeting her and Washington, D.C. Another threat bathes the city in red alert, and now there are lives at stake, in addition to hearts…

To the rest of the world, Sabrina Watkins doesn't exist.

Safe travels to all who are journeying to see loved ones this season (or to those who are taking a vacation).

A Very Merry Holiday...Alexa Style!

My family has always celebrated Christmas together and I was lucky enough to often get what presents I really wanted. Once I left Santa behind with the little girl I used to be, the list of presents grew shorter until I stopped giving gift ideas all together. As an adult, I've learned the point of the holidays is to spend time with those I love and any gift people share is like icing on my favorite cupcakes.

This year, though, I think I got the most humongous cupcake with gobs of frosting. Why? Next Friday, December 27th, my very first full-length romantic suspense book will be released!

Unable to protect her mother from her father as a child, Devin McQueen has made it her mission as an adult to protect as many abused women and children as she can. The rare moments she’s not consumed with work as a victims' advocate, she involves herself with safe, predictable men.

Everything is as good as it can be…until she meets bounty hunter Grady Cooper.  He is big, bold, brash, and has no problem speaking his mind.
Growing up in a broken home, Grady realizes early on that every good deed has a price.  To survive with as few scars as possible, he learns to weigh every decision by what he can gain.  But the successful, solitary life he’s worked so hard to create spins out of control when demons from his past shake his confidence.  His boss gives him one last chance—bring in Devin's latest client quickly and quietly and maybe he'll still have a job.
Suddenly, Grady must make the ultimate decision: follow his career or follow his heart?

Now if that wasn't awesome enough, guess what? Only 11 days later, on January 7th, my 2nd full-length romantic suspense book will be released!

Sensible dance instructor Tessa Gage likes her life organized, risk-free and on her own terms. When her cop brother goes missing, his crooked partner tries to kill her, and a handsome stranger claims he’s come to protect her, she’s forced to leave her comfort zone. With more dance and business sense than survival skills and no idea who to trust, Tessa has no choice but to rely on this man who’d rather be anywhere but by her side.

When carefree carpenter Matt Rylan gets a late night call from an Army buddy who once saved his life, he finds himself where he never again wanted to be—responsible for someone else. Honor demands Matt cooperate, but he never expects his simple babysitting job to test the limits of his self-control. Nor does he expect it to explode into a race against time for his very freedom.

As Tessa and Matt get closer to the truth, and to each other, Tessa learns to step outside the safety of her world to help set the wheels of justice in motion. For Matt, supporting this courageous woman suddenly becomes everything to him. Yet, his biggest challenge remains sharing his closed-off heart with her before the danger silences them both forever.

I've got lots of great plans for sharing lots more about each of these books in the next couple of months and I hope you'll join me. I'll be traveling on book tours, discussing how each book began, having contests (including The 2014 Danger Challenge and The Hunt for Justice) for cool swag and prizes. The details for each contest will soon be on my website. Plus, you have a chance to win one of three copies of DANCE AWAY, DANGER if you visit this page on Goodreads.

Okay, I'm off to find me some mulled wine. I'm starting my celebrating early...before I get back to edits on ANOTHER book due out soon! I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday!

Kristina McMorris, The Pieces We Keep

Welcome back Kristina McMorris!

Kristina McMorris’s works of fiction have garnered more than twenty national literary awards and appeared on the New York Times and USA Today bestsellers lists. Inspired by true personal and historical accounts, her novels include Letters from Home, Bridge of Scarlet Leaves, and most recently The Pieces We Keep.

A young boy’s violent, recurrent night terrors unseal a trove of family secrets tracing back to the Second World War, forever altering the lives of those around him.

In this richly emotional novel, Kristina McMorris evokes the depth of a mother’s bond with her child, and the power of personal histories to echo through generations…

Two years have done little to ease veterinarian Audra Hughes’s grief over her husband’s untimely death. Eager for a fresh start, Audra plans to leave Portland for a new job in Philadelphia. Her seven-year-old son, Jack, seems apprehensive about flying—but it’s just the beginning of an anxiety that grows to consume him.

As Jack’s fears continue to surface in recurring and violent nightmares, Audra hardly recognizes the introverted boy he has become. Desperate, she traces snippets of information unearthed in Jack’s dreams, leading her to Sean Malloy, a struggling US Army veteran wounded in Afghanistan. Together they unravel a mystery dating back to World War II, and uncover old family secrets that still have the strength to wound—and perhaps, at last, to heal.

Intricate and beautifully written, The Pieces We Keep illuminates those moments when life asks us to reach beyond what we know and embrace what was once unthinkable. Deftly weaving together past and present, herein lies a story that is at once poignant and thought provoking, and as unpredictable as the human heart.

“The past collides with the present in this sensitive and multilayered story where the discovery of long-held family secrets leads to healing.”—Beth Hoffman, New York Times bestselling author of Looking for Me and Saving CeeCee Honeycutt
“An utterly absorbing novel…this is a beautifully woven story, at once gripping and uplifting.” —Margaret Leroy, author of The Soldier’s Wife
“A compelling tale with memorable characters, written in McMorris’ elegant and captivating prose. I didn’t want this novel to end.” —Erika Robuck, bestselling author of Call Me Zelda
"A haunting read…it is a perfect combination of historical fiction and modern mystery." —Amy Hatvany, author of Heart Like Mine

A friend once shared with a Kristina a news story about a young boy troubled by night terrors involving a plane crash during WWII. Eventually, his detailed knowledge convinced his skeptical parents that in a past life he had been a pilot who perished in battle.

Kristina's eldest son, often referred to as an "old soul," had also once suffered from night terrors and used to speak of a grandmother who didn't exist. Reflecting on this, Kristina wondered: how would she react if her son, too, suddenly spouted historical facts that logic dictated he couldn't yet know? What if those "memories" linked back to secrets people strove to keep buried?

From there, a true account of Nazi spies on American soil inspired the final threads of Kristina's story, raising challenging questions of courage, faith, and loyalty.

Maureen: What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever done to research a book?
Kristina: I can easily say it was flying in a restored B-17 from WWII. After takeoff, the ten passengers were allowed to roam the aircraft at will, and I jumped at the opportunity to sit in the nose gunner’s seat, where there’s nothing but Plexiglas beneath your feet. Needless to say, it was an unforgettable experience!

Maureen: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
Kristina: As a movie buff, I have a lot of favorites. But if I had to name just one, I’d say Dangerous Beauty, an incredible story set in the Venetian courtesan era. I’m always amazed it’s not a more widely known film.

Maureen: What’s your favorite kind of story to get lost in?
Kristina: Historical fiction, without a doubt. Nothing pulls me into another world like a period piece with high stakes—typically involving war, love, tragedy, and hope.

Maureen: What’s the first book you remember reading?
Kristina: Hmm, I think that might have to be Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. Seriously, who doesn’t remember reciting the bust chant at some point?

Maureen: Do you believe in ghosts?
Kristina: I do. Mainly because, when I was a little girl, our family home was haunted for a brief time, even requiring the help of a pastor who blessed the house, room by room.

Maureen: What sound or noise do you love?
Kristina: The heartwarming sound of my sons giggling while playing together.

Maureen: What book would you want with you if you were stranded on a desert island?
Kristina: The most comprehensive survival guide in existence. For pure pleasure reading? The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It’s the only novel I’ve ever wanted to immediately start rereading the minute I finished it.

Maureen: What’s your favorite dessert?
Kristina: Tiramisu. My husband and I are on a perpetual hunt to find the best tiramisu in the world.

Maureen: Tea or Coffee? And how do you take it?
Kristina: I’m from Oregon, so of course it’s coffee! And of course it’s as complicated as a chemistry experiment: a half-caff, tepid, nonfat vanilla latte with an extra pump of caramel. Now, say THAT ten times fast!

Maureen: What’s your favorite kid joke?
Kristina: Why did the football coach go to the bank? To get his quarterback.
Maureen: **rolling on the floor laughing**
