Linda Wisdom has hex appeal!

A Demon Does It Better

An excerpt from Linda's latest in her hexy demon series:

Cleo sneezed as Lili stepped inside the Shop of Scents.
     “My allergies,” she complained.
“Then don’t breathe.” The witch had no sympathy as she examined the many-colored bottles, some labeled, others a mystery.
“You wish something special?” The silver-haired woman at the counter greeted her with a broad smile. “Fragrance to tempt your lover? Something to give you luck perhaps?” Her pale eyes peered at her closely. “Ah, you are the healer. Something soothing, then?”
Lili picked up a bottle and pulled the stopper out. She smelled spring flowers and fresh greenery. Another bottle yielded a winter of sharp ice while the third had her thinking of an ancient bazaar of spices and heat.
“You have not been here in many years,” the crone named Sameka said. “You chose a scent that was light and carefree.” She gestured toward a delicate pink glass bottle. “No longer is it you. You require a fragrance that holds a hint of darkness and mystery.” She held up a finger. “Wait here.” She moved with the ease of someone much younger—Lili gauged her years to be past nine hundred. She parted the amethyst silk curtains and disappeared into the back of the shop. She returned a moment later carrying a gilt-trimmed bottle that looked as if it had been owned by royalty. She set it on the counter and carefully eased the stopper out.
Lili didn’t need to lift the bottle to inhale the contents. They lifted their way to her. Images of silk, moans in a dark night, and a sensuality that warmed her bones were only parts of what she sensed in the perfume oil. She feared to ask the price. She only had to look at the shopkeeper to know it was very old and very rare.
“This is truly what you are now, and even more so as each day passes,” the old woman told her with a knowing smile.
“Huh. She must see something we don’t,” Cleo muttered.
“Quiet, you.” She wanted to try it on her skin. There were no worries it wouldn’t smell right with her personal chemistry. Sameka never forgot a customer or what suited them.
“Try it.” The male voice near her ear was as intoxicating as the perfume.
She looked up to see her mystery man standing next to her. Dark hair, eyes that rivaled a cobalt ring she had, and so good-looking her senses immediately kicked into overdrive.
He picked up the bottle and carefully tipped it against his fingertip. Turning toward her, he gently traced a path down her throat, then repeated the touch on each wrist. The oil turned to liquid heat, creating thoughts of wearing the perfume and nothing else.
Lili couldn’t keep her eyes off his hands. Strong, capable, yet gentle. She was positive they would feel the same everywhere else on her.
Get your mind back where it belongs!
     Easier said than done.
He lifted her hand, palm up, and bent down to sniff her wrist. His breath drifted over the surface. When he lifted his head, his eyes blazed a vivid blue.
“She’s right,” he murmured. “This is meant for you.”
“Oh my,” Cleo said in a hushed whisper.
Lili silently repeated the words, not even realizing that little stunned the jaded cat. For a moment she forgot they had an avid audience.
“I shall wrap it up.” The crone swept the bottle away and soon had it nestled in a velvet covered box.
The witch didn’t wince at the high price.
“Who are you?” she asked the man.
“Someone who knows what scent a woman should wear,” the crone cackled.
He lifted Lili’s hand and pressed a light kiss in the center of her palm. She felt the burn of his lips all the way to her core.

Interview with a very hexy writer.

Jillian: What’s your favorite “love” word?

Jillian: What’s your favorite fairy tale?
Linda: The Nightingale. A very sad story with the Chinese emperor wanting to keep the bird basically a prisoner but it always stuck with me.
Jillian: Is there a playlist you’d recommend for reading your latest release?
Linda: I listened to a variety of songs. Season of the Witch and lots of Celtic music.
Jillian: What sound or noise do you love?
Linda: My dogs with their happy sounds
Jillian: Describe your favorite kind of hero to read/write?
Linda: A man who’s totally fearless, a wild streak and looks for a woman who can handle him.
Jillian: What’s your favorite movie of all time?
Linda: Raiders of the Lost Ark
Jillian: What’s something you’d like to tell your fans?
Linda: They need to remember that a book a day keeps the frownies away.
Jillian: Which of your characters would you most/least like to invite to dinner, and why?
Linda: Most? Jazz. What fun would she be? Least? Foulshadow from 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover and easy to guess why!

Linda has some exciting publishing news!

Jillian: I understand you have some exciting news for your fans involving new releases, please share with us!

They can be found at Amazon, BN and Smashwords plus at www.joyridebooks.com I enjoyed writing these books and it’s wonderful to see them have a new life. We’re still putting up the new covers.

DEMONS ARE A GIRL’S

BEST FRIEND

A brief excerpt for your reading pleasure:

“Oh yeah, just another Saturday night hitting the clubs, watching the dancers, feeling blood stream out of my ears.” Maggie O’Malley winced as Static-X’s Destroyer screamed from the state-of-the-art speakers embedded in the club’s walls. Still, she couldn’t stop her hips from moving to the throbbing music. If she wasn’t there on business she would have been out there dancing. “Why don’t you just shoot me now?”

“Any females get naked yet?” the voice of Frebus, one of her team members, rumbled from the mic in her ear. “It’s only a matter of time ’til somebody gets caught up in the moment and starts tearing off their clothes. You gotta love shapeshifters cuz they’re always the first to get down and dirty.”

Maggie played idly with the crystal earring that dangled almost to her bare shoulders. She considered her jewelry a much better look for a mic and earpiece than the usual spy gear. If only she could mute the music for an hour. Or ten.

“Sorry sweetie, I’m only seeing half-naked, but think positive. The evening’s still young.” She grinned as she heard the low groan in her ear. Frebus and her other backup, Meech and Tita, were strategically placed around the interior, on the lookout for one particular degenerate in the sea of questionable characters.

She made her way through the hordes of glassy-eyed, gyrating dancers, skillfully avoiding the groping hands on her ass and breasts. She muttered a spell against any who returned for another feel. Nothing like a magickal zap to the genitals to spoil the mood. Judging from the yelps that followed her there were at least five who tried.

Maggie didn’t believe in giving anyone a second chance.

She viewed the large creature-populated underground club with an expression of distaste and the desire for her olfactory senses to be on the fritz.

“Haven’t some of these guys ever heard of deodorant?” she muttered, passing one scaly creature that fell in the ‘totally gross’ category. It peered at her through red slitted eyes and hissed, its forked tongue flicking toward her. Maggie hissed back and moved on.

The club’s name, Damnation Alley, fit the interior with its glossy black walls, black glass bars pulsing with neon, ice blue and black lights casting an unearthly glow on the preternaturals thronging the interior. Any unlucky human who managed to get past the door didn’t exit in a body bag or someone’s stomach.

She’d hoped to spend tonight with a bowl of popcorn and DVDs at home, but one of her team members got word that a fugitive they’d been after for the past month would be at the club tonight. Maggie and her team were sent here to bring it in.

She locked gazes with a vampire she remembered going up against a year ago. He flashed fang. She responded with a smile that promised a repeat of what had happened before. The vamp wisely turned away.

At first glance, Maggie looked like a typical party gal in her barely there black skirt and bandeau top. Shiny silver glitter accents covered the fabric that bared her shoulders and taut midriff and only she knew of the protective spells woven into the fabric. A dazzling diamond-encrusted black widow spider with ruby eyes was tattooed on one bicep. Dangerous bling. Don’t leave home without it. Her chin length pale blonde hair was sleeked back with glittery gel, making her features look sharper than usual tonight. She smiled at one man, who focused his attention on her mile long legs ending in black stilettos.

Maggie believed in themes and tonight it was dangerous sexy female on the prowl. The better to destroy you with, my dear.

She cast her senses wide, searching for her prey. Her gaze skittered to a halt when it reached a man standing in the doorway leading to the private rooms.

A few inches taller than her almost six feet, he was also dressed in black, but he didn’t look like the typical club goer. The silk shirt and slacks looked well-tailored and suited his tanned skin, dark eyes, and spiked hair. He oozed danger. Judging by the hungry looks women were directing his way, they didn’t mind the danger part at all. Maggie didn’t miss that most of the females were much more generously endowed than she was. She normally didn’t mind her slender athletic figure, but there were times it would be nice to have more to stuff into her bra than a middling B cup.

No time to play, pretty boy. Maggie’s got other creatures to fry. But stick around and maybe we can fit in a dance later on.

What a concept. Your everyday witch having an evening out where she could flirt with a gorgeous guy, get in some dancing, and just talk. When was the last time she’d had a date? Did she have enough fingers and toes to count back that far?

Get Lost In a Story welcomes guest blogger Linda Wisdom!

Jillian: How often to you get lost in a story?

Linda: I would say with just about every book I read.

Jillian: What’s your favorite cartoon character?

Linda: LOL Gossamer from the Warner Bros cartoons. Bet you thought I’d say Witch Hazel, didn’t you? She’s my second favorite.

Jillian: What turns you off like nothing else?

Linda: Rude people. I wanna hex slap ‘em!

Jillian: What was the first story you remember writing?

Linda: It was a short story I called Grandma’s TV Show.

Jillian: Do you write while listening to music? If so what kind?

Linda: For me, it’s TV. I usually put on DVDs that work on my imagination at the time. The genre might not even be the same, but it just keeps me in gear.

Jillian: What’s the first thing you do when you finish writing a book?

Linda: LOL! Clean house.

Jillian: Do you read reviews of your books? If so, do you pay any attention to them, or let them influence your writing?

Linda: I read them, but I do my best not to let them influence me since that’s just one person’s opinion.

Jillian: Tea or Coffee? And how do you take it?

Linda: Coffee, strong and black. I drink it all the time!

Jillian: What does it mean to love someone?

Linda: To be a part of them, two become one. Not sexually, but feeling each other in their souls.

Jillian: What color would you make the sky if it wasn’t going to be blue anymore and why?

Linda: A pretty lilac.

Jillian: What would you say is your most interesting quirk?

Linda: I have a very demented sense of humor.

Okay Linda, now for the GOTTA ASK, GOTTA ANSWER QUESTION:

Are you a good witch or a hexy witch? Maybe I should rephrase the queston: When did you become a hexy writer? Could you tell us a little bit about your move to paranormal and how you created the Hex series?

Linda: LOL! I would say a hexy witch. I wrote my first paranormal for Harlequin American Romance in the late 1980s. A Man For Maggie was about a psychic caught up in a murder. And in '05 the idea for my Hex series popped into my head and I knew I had to write the books. Jazz was the first witch to tell me what to write and it just continued from there. When characters and a storyline is that strong in your head you have to write it.

Here's a question Linda would like to ask readers: You can take five books with you to an island. You don’t have to mention titles, but what genres keep you happy? A copy of DEMONS ARE A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND will be sent to a lucky commenter.
