AMANDA: Ambitious, driven and fearless, Addie is a force to be reckoned with. But what I admire most is her maturity. A willingness to set aside personal grievances to get at the truth. She’s dealing with a man who betrayed her, yet early on she makes the decision to put the past behind them for the sake of the case.

AMANDA: A lush alleyway deep in the heart of
Charleston, South Carolina (one of my favorite places on earth). Addie comes
face to face with a man who seems bent on resurrecting the Twilight Killer,
taunting her with details about her mother’s murder. I wanted to create an
evocative, atmospheric scene that would set the tone for the rest of the book:
She saw him then, a hooded
man slipping along the top of the brick wall, crouched and almost hidden from
her view by a silvery cascade of Spanish moss. Even after she spotted him, she
wondered if her eyes were playing tricks on her. His movements were so fluid
and furtive he might have been nothing more than a figment of her imagination.
Yet he was right there, hidden in plain sight, and she could have sworn the
scent of magnolias emanated from his presence as he drew close.
