For 25 years my small suburb of Dallas had a special trail of holiday lights. And a new mayor decided to end it two years ago. Sure they brought a bit of outside traffic, but the time spent in the car with my loved ones through the year to look at them was well worth it. It brings me joy each time I look through the pictures each year...even if some of the images were exactly the same.
They are missed by everyone.

WHERE DID I DISAPPEAR TO & WHY
The reason for my absence began last March and April when I noticed the vision in my left eye getting darker. I'd already been told I had the beginnings of a cataract, so that's what I thought. But it wasn't. It was a detached retina. I finally looked up what I was experiencing so I could describe it better to my husband. I was at the specialist the next morning and in emergency surgery that afternoon (May 8th). Then face-down for two weeks. Unfortunately, that repair developed scar tissue and began tearing again. My second retina repair was July 13th.
During those months, the cataracts in both eyes went from barely there to severe. The left eye has a dark cloud and my right had developed a white one. OH and I shouldn't forget to mention that part of the retina repair was to place oil in my eye to keep everything in place...so looking out of my left eye is like looking through a glass pan coated in olive oil. I could see shapes and colors and a lot of blur. Needless to say, reading was out of the question. Working on the computer wasn't a possibility.
Enough time finally passed that cataract removal was approved for my right eye and I can finally see clearly again. AND...that's why I've been gone.
So I'm ready to get back to work. Ready to write. Ready to read my friends' new releases. Ready to bring you their stories.
In fact, I was asked to join a new community called CANDLEWOOD FALLS. My untitled story will be a part of the first releases on September 1st. I'm falling in love with this town and the stories from all the authors: Lori Matthews, Mary Strand, MK Fawcett, M. Kate Quinn, Jen Talty, Natalie Ann, Stacey Wilk & Arell Rivers.
What will make Candlewood Falls different than other "worlds"? Our shared characters. For instance, when you meet Jacqui, my character who owns the flower shop (FLOWER POWER), anytime someone in the town pops in to order flowers...you'll get to hear from Jacqui again. Recurring characters and places. Shared places and events. Awesome !! We hope to give readers a bigger community experience. You can join the Candlewood Falls Reader Group on Facebook and get a chance to win an autographed copy of HER HOT PURSUIT: a duo re-release book which includes Ranger Guardian & Hidden Truth by Danica Winters. Ranger Guardian is the third book in Texas Brothers of Company B.
Drawing is on Tuesday, December 15th.
AND come back here for additional giveaways while I get back into the groove.
Good to see you again !!

I haven't been on social media or the Get Lost in a Story Blog in a few months because my husband was battling pancreatic cancer since he was diagnosed in January. He fought the good fight and stayed with us as long as he could. On November 18, 2020 at 7:35 pm, he left this mortal plane.

Every once in awhile I try something out of my comfort zone...baking-wise. Back in September I had a hankering for something baked with pumpkin--not pie...sorry am just not a fan of Pumpkin Pie. I'd rather eat Squash Pie or a family favorite Sweet Potato Praline Pie.
I was searching for something different, made with pumpkin, and found this Pumpkin Cheese Thumbprints recipe on Delish.com.
I confess to nearly passing the recipe by when I saw that I'd have to use my very pedestrian piping bag skills to pipe the yummy cheesecake filling into the thumbprint after the cookies were baked. But then I thought to myself, well let's not be silly and possibly miss out on a fabulously sounding addition to my collection of cookie recipes.
I am so glad that I did! These little dreams melt in your mouth and are the perfect confection served with either Barry's Irish Breakfast tea or a cup of coffee! Who knew? Certainly not yours truly.
Follow the link above and you'll be surprised at how easy the recipe is to follow. Well, except that the piping part took a bit longer because I forgot how to assemble the darned thing. LOL!
Here's a pic of the finished cookies...

Accused of crimes he didn't commit, ex-preacher Ridge Steele is forced to give up everything he knew and make his home with outlaws. Desperate for someone to confide in, he strikes up correspondence with mail-order bride Adeline Jancy, finding in her the open heart he's been searching for. Upon her arrival, Ridge discovers Addie only communicates through the written word, but he knows a little of what trauma can do to a person and vows to stand by her side.
Addie is eager to start a new life with the kind ex-preacher and the little boy she's stolen away from her father - a zealot priest of a terrorized flock. As her small family settles into life at Hope's Crossing, she even begins to find the voice, and confidence, she'd lost so long ago.
But danger is not far behind, and her father will not be denied. While Addie desperately fights the man who destroyed her childhood, a determined Ridge races to the rescue. The star-crossed lovers will need more than prayers to survive this final challenge...and find their way back to each other again.
Linda Broday is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of 24 full length western romance novels and short stories. Let's find out more about the new release...
Who are your favorite characters from this series?
Is this the last book of the series?
Yes, this is the 4th and final book of the series and I’m so sad to leave this special outlaw town of Hope’s Crossing. The town has been a safe place of refuge for people seeking asylum and a new start. The four original outlaws who started the town have gotten amnesty and new lives with wives and children but there’s still much to do. They see themselves as caretakers of the land and the ones to find justice for those too weak to find it for themselves. Even so, they know they’re the last of a dying breed. The world is becoming more civilized and the law is fast catching up. They’re ready to turn over the reins to the lawmen though so it’s time to end the series.
Are you taking your characters in new directions?
I certainly have in this book. The world is changing so fast and westward expansion has put settlements in the far reaches of Texas. Ridge knows his time as an outlaw is short so he works at gaining respectability and settling old scores. He wants to clear his name and get right with the law. He’s tired of looking over his shoulder and is constantly thinking about what he has to do to protect Addie and keep her safe. I’ve never written a non-speaking character before but I wanted Addie completely vulnerable. I found out exactly how hard it is to write someone who can’t utter a word and I can say that I probably won’t attempt it again. Still, I’m glad I did it with this book.
What have you loved most about this series?
I’ve loved writing about these men living outside the law—their honor, the rules they set down for themselves, and the lines they don’t cross. They have so much heart and the sense of justice beats inside them. They’ve been wronged and harshly judged but they keep working to make better lives and finding wives to share their lot with. They want to walk tall in the sunshine and they find a way to make it happen. There is no giving up in these men. They fight hard and love with as much enthusiasm. I would be proud to have any or all stand by my side when the going gets rough. They’re the best of the best and they live inside me.
What’s next?
I begin a new series in April 2021—Lone Star Legends. Each book will feature one of the children who grew up on the famed Lone Star Ranch as an adult. A new generation of Legends to carry on the family name. Book 1 is The Cowboy of Legend and it features Gracie Legend who is neck deep in the Temperance Movement. She butts heads with a saloon owner in Fort Worth’s Hells Half Acre. Then I’ll have Book 2, A Cowboy’s Christmas Legend, in September 2021.
Reader Question: Have you ever found yourself committed to an unexpected situation you get into? How did you handle it?
Giveaway: A book (print or ebook) and a 2021 calendar that I designed.
