We also loved getting to know their new families. We adopted from shelters and even fostered Little Dude before falling for him...and keeping him. The little guy just wandered into our yard and knew he belonged with us. (FYI: we made certain no one was looking for him.)
Tim and I encourage everyone to foster if they have a yard. AND to adopt through foster organizations. Most non-profit organizations guarantee you receive a healthy dog and most help with the beginning training.
