First Friday with the Crew

TIME FOR SOME FUN
It's a QUICK SIX MONTH

HEY CREW...
ANGI: I mow myself. I actually enjoy it. Very relaxing for me until I get the the last third of my yard in 100 degree heat. (I have a huge yard.)

C.H.: I only mow if my DH (darling hubby) isn't around to do it. It's an old mower and getting the pull cord to work...well doesn't always work for me ;)

JACQUI: I live in a condo, so I don’t have a lawn but if I did, I’d mow it myself. It would remind me of being young and having that job on the farm. The scent of cut grass is still one of my favorites.

LIZBETH:  We mow our own lawn in a pretty unique (some would say insane) way. We live on five acres and our "yard" takes up a little over one of those. My hubby has refused to buy a riding lawn mower, claiming walking behind the Toro is his best exercise. We have four parts to the lawn--front and street, hillside, garden stretch, and the back yard. All together it takes about eight hours--we split it up into 3-4 nights per week. I usually have the garden area, hubby does the rest. During the summer we spend a LOT of time in the yard!

ANGI: We had grilled brats on Hawaiian rolls with spicy mustard, along with grilled fresh corn.

C.H.: Tacos! It's what was in the freezer ;)

JACQUI: Perogies (I think this is the Canadian spelling) because I'm part Ukrainian.

LIZBETH:  We had traditional burgers and brats with fruit salad, potato salad, green salad, chocolate cake and brownies. And wine. And lemonade with a little Minnesota vodka added. (And yes, that's a thing--it's called Gray Duck vodka and it's made with corn!) You'll be glad to know we didn't let the little kids in on that...

ANGI: Lena Diaz's SMOKIES SPECIAL AGENT.

C.H.: Bay of Sighs by Nora Roberts (re-reading it)

JACQUI: Stephen King’s On Writing

LIZBETH:  Nora Roberts' "The Liar."

ANGI: "You've got to be kidding."

C.H.: "Merry Christmas, Love."

JACQUI: Her destination was in sight (Fitting because my destination - as well as my heroine’s - is in sight. Mine being: writing the last scene of my story-in-progress).

LIZBETH:  Yeah, he’d miss her, too, but that only told him their connection was getting far too close.

ANGI: Homemade vanilla for the Fourth, AND a strawberry cupcake.

C.H.: Tin Roof Sundae (Turkey Hill brand with chocolate covered peanuts!)

JACQUI: Neapolitan ice cream

LIZBETH:  Dark chocolate cake with chocolate butter cream frosting and chocolate mousse filling.

ANGI: Nothing in the sun, at the ocean. Seriously. I can daydream on the beach for hours and hours. I might read a bit. I ALWAYS am inspired to write. Absolutely, hands down my most favorite thing to do year round.

C.H.: Make jelly! Our daughter and grandsons came over July 3rd to help pick red currants in our side yard. They make a delicious tart jelly. We add them to my great-grandmother's Butter Cake recipe...or my special Cream Scone recipe ;)

JACQUI: Take a walk in a park or, even better, a forest or a field. And take pictures of the flowers. And then relax afterward with an adult beverage :)

LIZBETH:  Go camping. Love being outdoors, hiking long trails, eating from Dutch ovens and off sticks poked through food and held over a campfire, then sitting and watching the fire for hours with no cares in the world before crawling into our tent. Best treat then? A thunderstorm that ends well before dawn but tattoos on the tent all night!

  1. Delightful post. As a retiree, just taking it easy in the summer. Reading, back road trips, visiting my favorite farmer’s market. Due to meds, can’t be out in the sun or heat. But love sitting in the shade on the deck.

  2. This was a fun read. Summer is my favorite time of year although Christmas is my favorite special occasion. There's nothing more tranquil then sitting in the gazebo and watching birds fly to the fountain for a sip or a dip, watch the flutter of butterflies and breathe in the scent of roses. And at Christmas, well, relaxing on the sofa and watching the twinkling lights on the tree with carols playing softly on the stereo. That is sweet bliss for me.
